Except Longbow looks nothing like a Catapult. Also, with PGI's engine rules, it will probably run around 67.5 kph max speed, which isn't slow for an Assault. My AWS-8R runs at 65.3 kph in comparison and it is never left behind.

Doesn't it?
Bipedal, two big ol arms on the sides that fire missiles.
Shaped a little different sure, but for the purposes of LRMs and SRMs?
We saw how heavier, humanoid catapult worked with the Archer. What do you expect from the longbow?

I expect great things from the Longbow, because after 200+ games with the ARC-5W in solo-q I have almost 2:1 WLR. And that's from a mech with extremely low cockpit, which severely hurt its ability to get locks by itself. Longbow, on the other hand, has high mounted cockpit and all high mounted missiles. It's gonna bring bigger rain while earning that sweet extra 30% C-Bills with the Hero variant.

If I ever dare suggest battlemechs move in a non-western way, I'll get a torrent of vitriol to " Go back to ******* weaboo gundam land ".
How exactly do you see Melee weapon wielding mechs to actually HIT Things?
Giant robots with swords is as gundam as gundam gets. Is this going to be slow, deliberate sword stances?
Because if Battlemechs don't jet around on the ground with JJs and do gundam things to close with targtes, I don't understand why they're given melee weapons.
It would have to be like a knife attack in other FPS games, basically. But I would prefer if using a melee attack had two effects:
- It takes about 2 seconds to raise your weapon and strike with it. And then there is a small cooldown.
- While you are using your melee weapon, you can't fire other weapons. This prevents people from spamming heat-free melee attacks while brawling.
- Ideally, there would need to be a melee animation, kind of like how there is a shutdown / power-up animation.

Good. With another IS mech with high weapon mounts, JJ's, and ECM (and at 60 tons) it would be more reason to have the Rifleman IIC announced in December (65 tons, high energy/ballistic mounts, JJ's and BAP).

Id rather have the Pheonix Hawk IIC, Warhammer IIC or Griffin IIC. Clan already have two good 65 tonners, where they have zero good 80 tonners (PHX/WHM) or 40 tonners (GRF)

I would eventually would like to see the Warhammer IIC down the road, but not right after another assault release for the clans. The clans do need more mediums, but I think that PGI should focus and dedicate the majority of 2017 just for light/medium mechs since there wasn't any lights released this year. Yet again I'm trying to put logic in Russ's hair brained mech lineup.

About two seconds sounds like more than enough time for a Dire wolf to reverse away from a weapon that has a windup animation before it strikes.
A knife would be a spider taking a long scrap of rebar, running behind something, and blackacking it.
