My bets are on the Crusader, because it would sell well - even I would buy it although I doubt it can be of much use in-game unless heavily quirked.
However I also see a good chance for the Nightstar. It is a potent assault design of 95 tons and so far the only IS 95 tonner is the ancient Banshee (ancient both in-universe and in game terms). It probably would not be a Kodiak-killer but extremely powerful in long range combat thanks to the torso shape.

Perhaps PGI brings a quasi-light Mech like the Assassin if they refuse to give us lights. Anyway the 40 ton bracket is very interesting because there are a lot of Mechs which could be nice in MWO. And there are a lot of 40 ton Mechs I like: Vulcan, Clint, Hermes II, Assassin and my favourite: the Sentinel:
http://www.sarna.net/wiki/Sentinel
  • seven canon variants possible in MWO --> no PGI invented non-canon variants other than the hero.
  • good diversity in the variants
  • high speed
  • it's 40 tons, so far we only have the Cicida in that field
  • a challenge for Alex to make it look nice Posted Image
But as I said, I would gladly take any IS 40 ton Mech which was available in 3050 - except the Withworth (too slow).

It pains me that I have to agree because I like the Valkyrie a lot, and I am not really a fan of the Javelin. But there is no doubt the latter would be far more enjoyable in MWO. It has five canon variants ready for MWO, so no PGI-variants other than the hero, and these variants offer some diversity including laser boating and ECM.

Actually my heart beats for the Fireball. With the usual 1.4x multiplier its engine cap would be 310. And that means some 270kph top speed.
It also means we will never see it... Posted Image

Yeah so the Valkyrie would have a 210 engine cap... Kinda sad rlly. The Javelin would have a 250 max engine. For comparison, the Arctic Cheetah has a locked 240.

70 Tons, JJs, ECM, nice differentiation between lore variants

That would be new territory for Pgi. Generally they've avoided extinct mechs. In this ones case it was stamped out purposefully by Kerensky.

I also think PGI prefers older designs in real world terms.

I mean, the Dragoon design is from the Historical: Liberation of Terra Volume 2 sourcebook which was released in 2013, which makes the design fairly new, even though lore-wise, it is a rather old design.

The 'newest' designs (in real world terms) in MWO are the Orion IIC and Highlander IIC, which are from Technical Readout: 3060, which was released in 1997, some 19 years ago.

On the bright side, the Anvil is from Technical Readout 3055, released in 1992, so I doubt PGI will have any problems adding it.

I mean, Kerensky also took the cream of the crop with him to extra-galactic space supposedly to stamp out nationalistic stupidity, but somehow we still got the Clans... Posted Image

To be fair, great great great great granchildren are likely to follow the same path; space opera or not.

Not really the point I'm making, though.

The point is that the Clans are badly written. And not just because things went south immediately, but just because nothing about them makes sense.

I'm not asking for an Ostscout, I'm just displaying how desperate I am for a new light.

It would've been excellent if there were a need for sensors. For it to be viable in MWO there would need to be some changes to sensors overall.

Rest of the Ostmann industries mechs are interesting too.

The only way we can get better looking Ostmann industries mechs is for the artists at PGI to redo them.

Ostroc (and ostroc mkII) - 60 ton Heavy with dual large lasers.
Ostwar - 65 ton Heavy with several missile points
Ostsol - 60 ton Heavy with lots of energy points

To me, the Ostroc and Ostsol could be combined into one release mech since they are so similar. The Ostroc has a missile point and the Ostsol just has more energy.

As I said before, the Ostscout would need some sort of either super sensors quirk to it akin to the Cyclops, or the whole 'infowar' would have to be actually done. Otherwise it's just a like a weaker Spider.

The whole lot could be released as the "Ostmann Line" or something as a pack, but packs aren't a thing.....

I don't know, I kinda like the irony about them.

What I don't like is they were basically klingongs where they were some great threat but had an honor code that bogged them down (among other things, like their slight pedo nature) and made them way less "scary" than they should've been. Despite the slight retcon they did to setup the Wobblies with as much of an army like they did, the Wobblies were at least somewhat threatening.

Wasp is what I want - and it would make sense to add one of the most important, commonly used and produced mech is the game universe.

It's the way they went from "Saviors" to "Conquerors" that doesn't make sense to me. Like, the Wolverine arc? It would have made far more sense if there was a civil war among the Clans, those that sided with Nicholas and those that sided with Wolverine. But there wasn't. Instead, they all stood idly by while the one Clan remaining true to the original mission was annihilated. They all agreed more with Nicholas on some level than with Wolverine and I find that completely unbelievable, especially when we have supposed Warden and Crusader factions. The choice to invade alone should have sparked another civil war, the two factions certainly had enough members for it.

Their approach to technology similarly doesn't make sense. They live on barren wastelands. They would not be developing super space shinies to more efficiently kill each other because they simply don't have the resources to divert toward that end. They would be almost as screwed as the Inner Sphere in terms of martial advancement. And, due to their code of battle, they wouldn't be developing hyper long-range weapons to cowardly snipe their inferior opponents with, they'd be gung-ho about close-range, man-to-man fighting prowess. Swift motion, crashing through front lines, etc. All of this screams close-range prowess rather than cunning, long-range battles of attrition.

Also, let's be honest: there are way too many Clans. There should be five, maybe six, tops. Falcons, Bears, Wolves, Jaguars, Sharks, and the deceased Wolverine.

Spoiler

I dunno, I fell like the clan story, and maybe the Inner Sphere's story as a whole, just isn't your thing. Which is fine.

I always liked the way the clans are shown to be pretty hypocritical and self-defeating, because it firmly roots them in the universe, who's main theme seems to be 'Families/Societies Fail.' And the Clans are just one of the later examples of it.

- The Cameron family tries to unit the Inner Sphere under a generally peaceful banner, strong arming everyone into being nice. Works decently... right up until a string of lousy Camerons screw it up and allow Amaris to take charge.

- Kerensky tries his hardest to restore the Star League... only for the only IS States to sabotage the effort. He attempts to nick it in the bud and take half of the military might of the Inner Sphere out of the fight, which fails to make any meaningful difference.

- Kerensky, after failing to save the Inner Sphere, tries to reform society without all the ********... which last for a figurative minute, before his son screws it up and the beginning of one the greatest wars in history is started.

- Blake tries to form a faction that will survive the coming nuclear **** show and will preserve humanity... and unwittingly plants the seeds of what will become known as a Jihad.

- Hanse Davion/Melissa Steiner try to unify the Inner Sphere peacefully, and when everyone else fails to come to the table, violently. They largely succeed at stabilizing most of the IS (Except for poor little Liao)... right up until their children's combined incompetence, apathy, and plain evilness undermines the whole effort.

At least that's how I look at it. The Battletech universe is all about reaching for the stars while your dumb *** children sneak cyanide into your dinner.

Oh no, I get it, and outside of the Clans I don't really have much problem with the story. What I really take issue with is how technology is handled in the series and how modern knowledge clashes with it. And I don't mean the dark ages stuff about losing information, that's fine. I mean things like frowning upon the use of nukes but making it okay to irradiate an area with Gamma Ray (Large-class) lasers. Using cassettes to feed an auto-cannon instead of a simpler and more reliable chain-drive. Somehow requiring more than five seconds of thought to come to the conclusion that "Oh, hey, we can increase effective range by increasing projectile velocity!" and develop HVACs. Like, seriously?

Stuff like that just...bothers the hell out of me.

Fiction is kind of my jam, and when you don't observe cause-effect consistency it kind of saps the value out of it.

Fiction is srs bznss!

All this talk about the clans & fiction is cool but let's stay on topic.

Which IS mech should come next?
