Disclaimer: Its a story of a match I had, not an arguement about Kodiaks.

I just faced off against a team with 6 Kodiaks and a couple other assaults on Terra Therma. Our team split up at the start to go cap on conquest and our team that took theta got pinned down. We were far off and one guy suggested just capping sigma first, but we were determined to save our group. One player called out for kills and we charged right in the corridor behind where the enemy team was attacking in full.

The enemies noticed us coming though and shifted most of their attention to us. I didn't have my mic setup, but called targets out in chat and we were able to hold off against the tide of Kodiaks pressing against our overheating mechs. After a brutal brawl in the foothills of Mount Doom we realized that we had survived and only an enemy Cicada was left trying to cap. I hit him a few times with my PPCs up close before someone with dual gauss got the killing blow.

Overall a good match, great fun in the group queue even against great odds.

Good job coordinating your group. As for those KDK-3s who lost...

Honestly, whenever someone says "the team with the most KDK wins," it jinxes it and they lose. SMH.

I played a match wehre my team has no assaults and the enemy team had 3 KDK and a bunch of Cyclops. We creamed them. :s

The KDK-3 is the problem, it has the Whatles Optimal configuration for CUAC + none of the downsides of the Whale for having that configuration. Your team had 2 KDK-3's and the opposing team had 3 KDK-3's. The other KDK builds are for the most part not in the broken mech category like the KDK-3.

I had mentioned to our team to watch out, as I knew the enemy team had at least 3 Kodiaks since I had played with a four man team twice right before that match that had them and was on the other team that round. I didn't know we'd face double that though. Wonder if they mentioned their amount of kodiaks on their side. I know our team mentioned it being like the Kodiak release all over again.

Maybe we get lucky and Paul throws a -30% UAC jamchance on the Dartboard of balance for the Kodiak-3. I mean, it is clearly underperforming as a lot of screenshots proof.

CUAC isn't the optimal build. You'll inflate your damage number, but in most cases Goose Peepers will do better for killing enemies.

I always make sure to lay out a dreamcatcher before playing my CareBearStare. I don't want to catch any bad jujus if I already made myself a huge target.

UAC is really good at holding a line though. It just has an extremely high ability to put out damage that the PPFLD can't do. Good stuff for a push or for trying to counter a push. With my team running 2 KDK-3s and 2 Hellbringers (who were running dual UAC10 builds) we ended up easily holding off a saddle push on Crimson.

That said, PPFLD mechs would have insta killed one mech at a time, but doesn't have the same suppressive effect that devastates groups of lower discipline.

IF you aim the stream of shells right. It doesn't do any good if 60% of the shells destroy the map, not the enemy mechs. Oh sure it'll keep them from wanting to walk around the corner the shells are hitting, but only so long as your ammo holds out. UACs are like suppressive LMG fire in the military. Useful at times but the guy carrying the anti-material rifle is liable to do more good for the platoon when putting match grade ammo into the right target.

It looks a lot worse then it really is. So yes.

I'm more curious about who in the hell was running that range. And whether the safety officer was incompetent, or just having a laugh.

I just spectated one of those goosebears. 2 gauss, 2 ERPPC, 2 flamers, and 2 ammoless MGs. Which is the part I don't understand. If you're going to use the MGs to raise the gauss to the top hardpoints, at least give them a half ton of ammo to be useful for the times you're using those flamers you apparently felt were needed.

I tend to agree. The UAC build is most useful for suppression and anyone stupid enough to be a stationary target and try to face tank you. Although the same can be be said of the Direwolf or even the King Crab mounting 4 UAC/5's. Most death by KDK-3 happen because the person dying either screwed up by not paying enough respect to the KDK firepower or because his team was up his rear and didn't allow him to back out of the KDK's fire arc. It is also good for killing targets not paying attention, basically anyone who just stands there and lets you shoot at him. Against anything moving or paying attention, the UAC build tends to be much less effective.

I am not one of those calling for the nerf of the KDK-3, but something like this should be considered an exploit.

I remember holding off an entire enemy team in the old Caustic by myself in a Dakka Whale. The mech couldn't nascar so I said what the heck and held position instead. As soon as the enemy popped up, I sprayed them with so many UAC5 shells they immediately backed out. Meanwhile my nascaring mates had caught up with the enemy's tail and the opponents folded like a house of cards.

Good times--back when the Whale was considered top tier.

Ugh, ballistic kodiaks are utter filth. Hell, the Kodiak line in itself just seems to be incredibly good.

I use two mg's to use the best hardpoints for one of my Maulers AC's. I bring a half ton of ammo for them, always. I even got 2 kills with them once when I was cleaning up damaged mechs after my AC ammo ran out :). Half a ton is a small price to pay for that ability imho.

My new dakka bear moves a bit better than my original. Thanks to the UAC/10 nerfage, I went with the Twin 10 / Twin 5 layout, and that let me leave in a 375XL (instead of a 350XL) and increase the ammo by 2 tons, and carry 1 more DHS. I might hybrid-dakka my original (its currently a big blunderbuss with quad LB10s, but I could always Twin LB/Twin UAC). I'll probably get around to adding a 3rd Goosebear this week. I have the C-bills and the weapons sitting in storage.

I do wonder though, if they gave it an LBX quirk... if more people would run their bears with them.
