They also might not be KDK-3s... the rest of the Kodiaks aren't really anything to write home about.

I agree with a lot of what you say Mystere but the above statement is wrong. If PGI gave us the ability to choose high or low hardpoints you wouldnt see to ammo-less machine guns. In this case they are use to absorb the lower points to get them goose waffles up nice and high.
That is not an exploit, it is just preferential mounting and mech lab fu.
Well actually they're also acting as damage sinks in case of critical hits to the side torsos. That empty MG might just take the crit hit instead of your explosive gauss rifle.

That is a byproduct, the smart way of doing what you suggest is by using half tons of Gauss ammo and load em up, since it doesnt explode it crit pads instead. Yet again, mech lab fu.
The main reason it to get those waffles up high.

BUT those good ones like Cazade, in a KDK3, can destroy the whole team.
And I have seen them do it. I have been in matches that went from 3/9 to 12/10, and it just takes one good KDK3 player.
In other mechs good players can also change the game, but it is most apparent/done/made so in KDK3s.

I just faced off against a team with 6 Kodiaks and a couple other assaults on Terra Therma.
THAT'S THE STUFF OF NIGHTMARES. I GUESS I WON'T BE SLEEPING TONIGHT THEN

Depends on the tonnage differential VS the skill differential, generally speaking
Too many Kodiaks can be an issue, if they aren't Potatos

If thing like this happens it is only due to the stupidity of 9 guys who can't finish off the 3 remaining guys. Even if there is a fully fresh KDK-3 vs 9 badly damaged mechs he can't shoot them all at once. So, what actually happens in such scenario is damaged mechs poking at a KDK one by one like idiots isntead of rushing it together. And poking for PUGs usually means poking from same spot and standing right in front of it. Better yet out of 9 remaining mechs, 4-5 probably just avoided combat alltogether in a full ret!rd-potatoe mode. This has nothing to do with KDKs.
There isn't a single mech in the game that can take out three other mechs at the same time given equal skill of pilots. Even two mechs at once requires a really good mech vs two really bad ones.
PUGs are gonna PUG.

The KDK-1 is by far my favorite, albeit not as brawly as the KDK-3. I'm running 2LPL, 4MPL, and 1 CAC-10 (yes, the regular AC, not the UAC). Nobody seems to share in my enthusiasm for the KDK-1 though

Well, nobody seems to share your enthusiasm about using a normal clan AC either.
