Aha! I feel a bit enlightened, jay! That info bit was a relief, really.
So there is a canon/ lore reason to be able to remove for example JJ from omnimehcs, like the Summoner/ Thor... So the only die-hard reason PGI wont let us is due to gameplay balance?
If so, we need to continue the campaign for being able to move locked JJ (and cbaps like for the Mist Lynx) on omnis. Could balance it out by reducing specific chassis quirks or remove quirks from all clan mechs.
Still are the optional removal of the Adders flamer, canon/ lore friendly?
The
Summoner, Nova, and
Night Gyr have hard-wired jump jets in lore. 'Mech techs removing those for whatever reason would convert the chassis from an omnimech to a standard battlemech, losing all ability to pod swap. I'm not clear as to the canon reason for this, but I suspect it's for game balance in real life.
As another poster mentioned earlier, the
Adder's flamer is also hard-wired in lore and shouldn't be removable. I really didn't like it that they unlocked the flamer, and believe that they should have instead gave the 'mech flamer quirks, especially since how flamers are now useful. The same thing with the
Mist Lynx and its hard-wired active probe. Give it active probe quirks!
I feel that omnimechs with locked jump jets, weapons, and sensors should get quirks specifically for those pieces of equipment.
