The Mist Lynx is a POS and an outlier. No amount of weapon quirks are going to change that. The only thing that will help it is a Hero Variant that gives it some torso mounted hardpoints or something along those lines.. If that happens then the "set of 8" may even work on it.

You really want a P2SL (pay 2 suck less) variant of the worst chassis of the game?

The Pretty Baby would like a word with you.

While's that's true, that doesn't mean we need to go in the opposite direction and make the poor little gundam even worse. If a fire is burning, don't add more fuel to it.

There are also other gundams that need to mix pods to be viable. Gargoyle, Executioner, Summoner, Kit Fox, and a few Nova variants are the first ones that come to mind.

PS: It is "technically" possible to quirk the Mist Lynx (or any mech) into overpowered meta glory. PGI will never do it deliberately, but it is possible from a coding standpoint.

Because some Clan gundams are poopy even in spite of being able to mount Clan guns.

Fair enough, some clan mech should have quirks.

The only place to put hardpoints in the MLX is the RT.

Then again, aiming for the right torso of the mech is ideal, especially those that run ECM.

I don't think the suggestion really works either way.

Head CAP is a headache anyways.

Wouldn't it be funny if, in the November patch, they decide to change all clan quirks to 8/8? Bottom line, don't buy mechs for quirks.

The problem is that some gundams have quirks as one of their few (sometimes only) positive attributes.

I think the set of 8 quirk requirement is ridiculous as well. The entire point behind Clan Omnimech is there ability to swap pods to customize the mech and they give up being able to swap engines, armor and structure, plus lose dynamic criticals and sometimes get stuck with fixed equipment like JJs, DHS, Flamers and what have you, all to have the ability to swap pods like they are some magic feature to an Omnimech. What is worse is often these magic Omnipods have worse hardpoint restrictions than those fixed hardpoints on a Battlemech.

So I have to ask, what the hell is the point of having customizable omnipods that require you to give up so much other customization for, when you lose all your quirks the second you swap out the omnipod? If we can't swap pods and maintain efficiency and are left with running stock configs, then what makes an Omnimech different than a Battlemech who is also running stock hardpoints? OH...WAIT...the difference is, the Omnimech can't actually customize anything...THAT IS THE DIFFERENCE.

A.) It's not the only one.

B.) It's not quite as much of an outlier as you think it is.

C.) There are a few variants on Sarna that would help it dramatically if PGI would release them (F, G, P), even without the future tech they are supposed to come with.

I want to nip this in the bud:

Just because there are quirks does not mean you have to use them or that they are even necessary for a 'Mech to be good. Sometimes they are, sometimes they aren't. This clouded line of thought is what caused PGI to swap all of those IS quirks that were formerly split between weapon-specific and general values over to completely general...and break the game in the process.

Let's try to avoid it this time.

i agree, it penalizes OmniMechs for being OmniMechs,
for a BattleMech this would be Equivalent to locking Upgrades and engines or you get no Quirks,

but thats no fair because they are BattleMechs,
which is why im saying this isnt Fair because they are OmniMechs,

What if they kept the set of 8 and to compensate gave the spider an AC2 range buff?

I like the basic idea of 8/8 bonuses. It makes omnimech pods sidegrates, not upgrades. Opportunity costs so to say.
This should be the norm, actually and it was when they started with modules back in the day. Those added heat for more range so you had to trade in something.

For the omnimech you had to trade in the little 8/8 bonus when you want to change pods. In no way does the mech become "unplayable" then or broken or whatsoever. You basically don't have a bonus on something. You know, quirk chasing is bad and all Posted Image

And now for the MLX and the obsession you guys have for it. It is a bad mech. Like the commando or spider or kit fox. Or like the locust was. Or the victor now is.

We will always have some bad balanced mechs. There will always be "the worst assault" and the "best meta heavy" - we have either this or gunbag online.

So if you want the MLX prime with energy weapons you have to give up the quirks and ride a bad mech into the field.

So it's good balancing making the Summoner and Mist Lynx terrible? What?

I didn't say that.

But another question:

Is it good balancing to vomit quirks all over everything instead of start getting the weapons in line globally?

If the MLX and SMN ever get 8/8 quirks, they will be legitimately terrible, unless they get quirks we haven't seen since the 1000% missile cooldowns on the PTS that one time. So unless PGI (somehow) finds a perfect balance for weapons that makes them not terrible, they NEED the quirks they have right now.

If PGI are working towards less quirks and balance based on baseline stats instead, then this is a huge step in the right direction.

If people can't understand that the only way to fight power-creep is to tone down "mech performance", then there really isn't any point to threads like these... other than juvenile complaining of course.

Cue wailing babies and forum emos ;)

Why is it that whenever we get these clan entitlement threads that the SMN & MLX seem to be the only mechs that get a mention. Yet the ACH, SCR, EBJ, HBR, TBR and big hairy Bear - the best mechs in the game don't.

The best mechs in the game will continue to be the best mechs in the game regardless of 8/8

because half of those don't have any quirks to begin with. It's the bad mechs everyone is upset about. Or that mechs like the night gyr get quirks at all.

I still think we should differ between defensive armor/movement quirks and offense quirks that touch weapons.

Armor buffs can be made for the whole chassis imo, no need to strap those on a single omnipod - i mean the mech still looks the same. why we need weapon quirks at all is beyond me but that is PGI balancing at its finest...
