Introduced to the Inner Sphere tech base in 3057. Current time in MWO is between 3051 and 3053.

But the time line is likely to fall apart soon, so... don't use it as a road map.

Russ has already declared on Twitter that the timeline is no longer a concern. There's no current time in MWO.

We're operating with 3055 era technology, but MWO will have variants and mechs from post 3055.

There is no timeline. The only concern Russ has is that he doesn't want to introduce more tech to the game at this point (or perhaps ever). No more weapons in the forseeable future. No IS UAC10, no MRMs, no X pulse lasers, no heavy lasers.

It's not coming. PGI has no plans to introduce any of it, ever, as far as we know.

And this just make me sad, always wanted to used a UAC20 on Atlas with a bunch of srms and heavy lasers on my Timberwolf, Cauldron Born. HELL I wanted make a MRM Catapult/Archer boat.

I mean seriously, do you want an IS UAC that shoots a 6 round burst for 5 damage a pellet? TTK is already in the garbage, that will just make it worse...

Light Engines occupy 2 crits in each side torso, like Clan XLs. That means they aren't killed if they lose a single side torso, like with Inner Sphere XLs.

I'm mostly fine with LFE's, LFE's are half way between a standard and an XL in terms of weight savings (75% of the weight of a Standard), the only problem I have if LFE's is that why would you take a standard engine then? I mean a HBK-4G could keep the AC/20 and use a LFE to save a bit more weight.... (A LFE 250 would be about 14t in MWO, leaving the HBK-4G 4.5t to work with for extra ammo and more DHS)

Lets throw in the Clan XXL Engine as well. More weight savings than a Clan XL, but you die the moment you lose a side torso.

Not to mention you run hot as hell too,,,, (2/4/6 extra heat in TT from standing/walking/running... not to mention double JJ heat....

You basically wouldn't. The difference between a standard and light in durability is very minor and largely irrelevant, so introducing the light engine would definitely cause power creep with Inner Sphere mechs.

Gents,

Apologies in advance - I do not have much knowledge to the Lore, or MWO mid-long term road map.

I just want to understand if there ever will be access to UAC10 technology for IS Mechs?

If yes - when (in terms of BT timeline vs current MWO timeline)?

If No, why? Posted Image

Thanks!

Honestly I like the fact that IS and Clans have different weapons and tech. I would rather they address any potential imbalance of not having these weapons another way. The goal should be to create two distinct, but balanced sides.

While true, it's somewhat silly to try and balance a MLas vs an cERML, when they IS have an ERML that is most of what the Clans have, just a little bit worse....

IS MLas:
Heat:3
Damage: 5
Range 9 (270m)
Tons: 1
Crits: 1

IS ERML:
Heat: 5
Damage: 5
Range 12 (360m)
Tons: 1
Crits: 1

cERML:
Heat: 5
Damage: 7
Range 15 (450m)
Tons: 1
Crits: 1

Those are the TT stats, and if you ask me, it would be easier to balance the ERML v cERML, than cERML v MLas.

You don't even have to approach it from a weapon balance point of view. You can have crazy imbalanced weapons for clans, but a balanced game because IS has some other crazy imbalanced thing about them that evens things out.

I want IS to play completely different than clans because their tech allows them to do something novel to keep up with the Clan's Glass Cannon playstyle. The last thing I want is to see IS turn into nothing but Clan-Lite.

Seriously though, MRMs are going to be a ***** and a half to balance.

Why ?
Effectively we already have MRM's.....with a too short range.
They will be crap because hit detection will run and hide because of MRM salvo size.

I'm totally in favor of adding new weapons. While they're at it I'd hope they add more defensive technologies.

Ah yes, another "Clans are OP!" claim. I love those.

Personally, I would love everyone to get their corresponding weaponry just so I can have ATMs and MRMs already.

While I've agreed with many of your posts.
Clan mechs are OP period.
All of themnope, but the vast majority yes.
To say otherwise is just be disengeniuos.
PGI can'tseem to figure out that thier introduction basically broke thier game.
Not only that but how.
But hey meh.
Wanna buy a mech pack?

At first thought, would give left nut for IS UAC10. Then realise have to find another 1 ton to fit it into an existing AC10 build. 13 tons 7 crit isUAC10 vs 10 ton 4 crit cUAC. How's that anything but clan OP?

Shooting two projectiles that do 10 damage each might go a ways towards making it viable and 'balanced' (as opposed to 6 projectiles that do 3.33 damage each). Perhaps not perfectly, but still.

I thought they used 4 in each, probably someone said they required 4 slot in st and i assumed he meant each. At least it wont take more place. The way i make my mech right now, i only see drawback.

Better survivability for IS is great but if that means lowering your damage versus Clan because now; You have less weaponry/dhs on assault/heavy because critspace or less weaponry on med/light because heavier engine, then its half good and half bad, not a buff.

I think once they introduced Clan Battlemechs the Clan power scaling hit around god tier levels since the nigh unlimited

freedom battlemechs have with tasty clam chowder tech, I don't think their many solutions to this other than close the tech

gap enough that IS can atleast play at clan's level (somewhat). Or more Super Saiyan God Super Saiyan levels of quirks to compensate for the IS "lack of" advancing their tech.

4 in each ST is the cXXL (Clan Extra, Extra Light Engine)... (33% engine weight of a standard)

Many Inner Sphere heavies and assaults don't run XL engines because they are too vulnerable. It would be a flat buff to those mechs, many of which are already regarded as good mechs.

Before the rescale and unquirking (which was stupid to do simultaneously but I digress) IS had a slight advantage over clan mechs on most levels.

The rescaling was unkind to most IS mechs and then they introduced the KDK3 with bloated hard points but I am off topic. Prior to some of their really terrible recent decisions the groups were balanced even with supposedly superior tech on the clan side.

Yes, weapons like the RAC and the HGR would be a powercreepy balance nightmare and I actually do not want them in the near future.
But I do want the LFE.

That is not a big problem compared to the benefit for the overall game balance: a true functional equivalent to the C-XL. In MWO terms LFE and C-XL work the same as they reduce weight and allow the loss of one ST.
Balancing the differences between LFE and C-XL via quirks is far easier and far more elegant than attempting to balance the differences between C-XL and the IS XL and STD engines.

With the LFE available, small quirks would be enough. One could finally get rid of absurdly huge quirks, which arbitrarily favour one chassis and condemn another to oblivion. This is not powercreep, it is the opposite: it brings back long forgotten chassis which have been hit with quirk nerfs.
If the effective death of the STD engine is the price to pay, I am willing to do so. (It is not like anyone misses his STD on Clan Mechs...).
