The best political GIF of all time is that old Rumsfeld GIF.

No one has ever topped its majesty.

Buffy is a great show. Joss Whedon knows what he is doing. Good plots, great characters and a good looking cast. Its a little cheesy at times but I can look past it.

MUCH BETTER THAN ANY ANIME BECAUSE SMG

As a Buffy and Angel connoiseur, I'd have to agree .

So... a thread upset that people like something the OP does not has reached nine pages. Possibly ten after this post. Whaa?

I don't wanna sound like too much of an *** here, but... why does it matter? If anime upsets you that much, all I have to answer that with is you haven't found one that appeals to you yet.

Anime is not a genre in an of itself. Saying you don't like animé is like saying you don't like movies or Live Action shows or something. You either don't know what you're talking about, or hold a grudge. I think we know which it is here... Avoid the school girl slice-of-life and the dull full-of-filler series like DBZ and Naruto and there is a LOT out there.

Try Gundam 08th MS Team. Very realistic, 'Mechs feel heavy, slow and ponderous, much like our BTech. Only 12 episodes too. May change your mind.

Also Battletech owes it's entire existence to anime. Some of our most iconic designs, the ones people love such as the Warhammer and Marauder as well as others are lifted straight out of 1970s\80s anime, just as the Real Robot genre was starting to gain popularity. Battletech does not exist in a bubble, it was\is pretty much a ripoff designed to bring big robots to the west. Hell, wasn't the Timberwolf designed by an animé 'mecha artist?

Eh ... I think the point of his post was that he doesn't like the forums cluttered up by animated gifs (which are nowadays mostly anime), not that he doesn't like the genre.
In fact, if you had read the OP, you would have stumbled upon the sentence "I have nothing against anime, big fan here".

So yeah, everyone can like what he wants, but please stop spamming the forum with annoying gifs, be it anime or whatever.

Faiirr enough!

Though I have to say, unless it's written into the rules and people get slaps for posting gifs, animé or not, it ain't going to happen~ D: This is the modern internet! Where whole posts can be made up of 12 tiny gifs running side by side to show us 2 second chunks of a scene.

OP here,

It wasn't meant as an attempt to get rid of it, just to open a community discussion about the subject so we can talk about it and see where everybody's stance is.

Mostly I wanted to spread some awareness and ask if it's really appropriate that so many are being posted as what seems to have become a somewhat popular trend. I personally don't mind it that much, I just find it a bit strange.

Tbh they do have a nice community, and enjoyed reading their fanfics some of them use anime or manga to tell their stories.

Personally I think that posting animated gifs, regardless of whether they are anime or not is really clichéd these days and 99% of the time they are a waste of space and the mental effort to process them.

However that one time in a hundred where the gif actually perfectly fits the situation means that I don't think they should be banned.

That said, posting a crappy gif is a real fast way to get ignored so for $%^&' sake think before posting.

How do I block someone? I can't find a link on their profile that lets me do it.

if reaction gifs actually are somewhat relatable to the topic,no reason to nerf them,if they are not excessive

Its obvious whats going on here, the topic was made by an alien texting from the dark side of the moon hiding because anime scares him, and for good reason.

Oh man, Star Blazers and the Wave Motion Gun!

That started my love of 'anime'

TYVM for the flashback.

Actually what got me into anime was the Gundam series. Oh and about the Star Blazers, watched the 2012 remake of it too, was pretty good.

Some readers really misinterpret that this is not an anime hate thread, which was disclaimed twice in the OP.

Its more about context and quantity.
Gif of some anime mechs doing something that goes with the post...Ok, that makes sense.
Gif of some random anime girl doing something random...Not so much, but if only here and there ok. But if you are posting stuff like that every other post, then maybe a bit much.

Like, who doesn't like funny cat videos or lolcat pics? Everybody likes funny cat videos but we don't post them here because they rarely have anything to do with MWO (well except for that cat in a mad cat made of boxes)

it's really not that big of a problem, but since you asked:

It's this really superficial/glib/trite way of conveying an idea but doesn't actually have anything concrete behind it. It's just a way of not having to make a point, to avoid having an actual discussion for the probable reason that you are bad at it. The anime/gif responses are not clever, they say nothing about you or your point. But if being snarky/smug is your prerogative, then it's really no skin off my nose. I can continue scrolling right past those posts and not caring.

I'm not going to tell people what they can and can't do on this forum, it's not my job. This is just my perspective and how I deal with it.

edit: I should add I mean very specifically posts that are like 1-2 sentences of text and then a gif, as though its somehow a snappy comeback. If you write a detailed post and then add a few gifs, whatever. No problemo. Just make a ****** point if you're going to post. Although you might be more interested in a tumblr blog than a Mechwarrior forum :P
