Good event, I like it just fine.

I will voice a dash of salt for my buddy who is on the road for work 5 days a week "Would'a been nice if I even had a shot at the big prize."

That aside, good format, good length for us casuals and rewards are pretty solid (and well times, Mechbay sale at the end!)

Thanks PGI.

This was a good varied event that kept you motivated for days.

Regrettably for myself, due to a power failure with my modem I missed the first 3 days of it. Wanted to win that Grind Iron, but I see I will be just a day short to get it Posted Image !

For now I can play this almost everyday, but plenty of people cant do so. It would be good in the future to lower down the days required to get a final prize, (as was done recently) and to give different options in ways to complete events.

That means some that people can finish the event by playing some time everyday, or to get into a short marathon for a few days and still being able to accomplish everything.

Good timing on the mechbay sale and final double XP part of the event. TY. Posted Image

Honestly I wish you updated the rewards more often. What is the penalty of doing that?

For all the people whining about the Grid Iron, I already owned it but had a blast rediscovering it this evening!

Two builds to consider (both with XL 275 engine):
Guass + 3 MPL (3 tons of ammo)

2x AC 5 + 3 ML (5 Tons of Ammo)

I happened to have some AC5 Modules laying around and it was quite fun with a very quick recycle time.

XL engine on a Hunchback makes for an incredibly easy kill.

I'm not saying it doesn't, but you simply don't try to tank with it and with the range of AC 5s, you shouldn't have to.

Yeah, to have any sort of reasonable firepower it basically needs to have an XL.

I just ran it with a 200XL, Gauss (with 3 tons ammo) and two ER Large Lasers, and did ok, but the ridiculously arm hardpoints forced me to expose the entire mech to shoot with my full firepower, and I knew that if I took much return fire I would have died fast.

If I ran it with a 200 standard engine instead, I would have been forced to trade the twin ER Large for either a single ER Large, an ER PPC if I stripped one arm of armor, or triple Medium Pulse, which honestly isn't that good firepower for a mech that slow.

If I upgrade to a 250 standard, strip the arms of armor and upgrade to ferro, I can run it with a Gauss, a single Medium Laser and a SRM4... that really isn't impressive.

So yeah, no matter how I build it, it is never close to satisfactory. I just can't rate the mech as anything better than 'below average'.

Most people seem to be running 225 standard with 1 extra DHS for your ten, then dual LB10's or dual AC5's/dual ML.

225 standard with dual LBX10 leaves just 1.5 tons free for ammo, even with the arms stripped of armor.
Likewise, 225 standard with dual UAC5/ML leaves just 2.5 tons free for ammo, with one arm stripped of armor.

A lighter engine is necessary for those weapon builds.

Mediums are about compromise. Very few can be fast *and* high powered. Most require an understanding of the mechs inherent best scenarios which may or may not play to a pilot's strength...

For example, i think the GI is the only hbk that has 2 ballistics. I have a choice between capitalizing on the guass quork or putting 2 ACs on it. Some people may not like gauss so at least there are decent quirks for other builds.

I don't know a whole lot about the mech yet, but I do know that running 2xAC2's is great for scaring people back into cover. Maybe less useful in Tier 1 but in Tier 3 that repetitive loud sound of something blowing up on your chassis is great for intimidation. Ran a Summoner with 3 AC2's once and it was fabulous.

The -4G has 3 ballistics.

But anyway, I'd rather run other Hunchback variants like the 4P or 4SP; they can pack significant firepower while using a 275 standard engine.
Or other IS mechs like Crabs, Shadow Hawks and Griffins.

Or heck, clan mediums like the Shadow Cat, Nova, Stormcrow and Hunchback IIC, all of which out-perform it in brawler and sniper builds, while having better mobility (and compared to Grid Iron's XL builds, better survivability).

Any of those mechs I mentioned end up less compromised in either firepower, durability and/or mobility compared to the Grid Iron, especially the Clan mechs.

HBK-4G has three ballistic hardpoints.

You're not wrong, but I guess, technically neither is he if its the only one with EXACTLY 2 ballistic hardpoints...
