Lets just focus on the IS mechs here since the whole clan versus IS discussion (or even clan vs clan) leads down a rabbit hole that will invariable involve enough salt to cure all the space bacon in Marik's domain...

I don't think anyone is saying the GI is "tier 1"-good for an IS medium. I would rather pilot it over any number of other mediums out there. That's kind of the point though, to say one mech out there will make everyone happy is severely unrealistic and just because it didn't jive for some peeps doesn't it won't for others. Unlike the recent free Centurion, this one comes with upgrades- the *good* ones (DHS and Endo) so if you have the parts lying around, give it a chance instead of selling it immedeately.

overall i felt this event was very underwhelming (maybe because i already had a GI) but i finished the first three parts in 1 day of playing on friday and the rest was unoticable. but the biggest problem i had was we didnt even get a full week of double XP event.... just underwhelming and not in way like i had to try, followed by the let down of double xp being short cause its always satifsying to get those 15k-16k xp games.

No it isn't as I've run both of those builds myself when looking for one I'm happy with. Just to correct one error though, I said AC5's not UAC5's.

I was actually searching to see if someone had the same issue... i was about to get some mechbays to finish off my ridiculous spending spree and found that the price had gone to 240 from 150... earlier today i bought some for 150. Kinda dumb. I cant get the bays i wanted and im not buyin more MC for it. Cmon PGI quite trollin

I got the Grid Iron: Yesterday I did my last 100 score match and I destroyed the last 4 components. I can't belive I acheived the component destroyed challenge, it was not a easy one IMHO.
Fun event overall and very nice final prize.

In a Tier 1 to 5 system, where each tier is the following:

Tier 1 = Great / Overpowered
Tier 2 = Good / Above average
Tier 3 = Ok / Average
Tier 4 = Bad / Below average
Tier 5 = Terrible / Horribly underpowered

I'd rate the Grid Iron as Tier 4, along with the Hunchback 4G and 4H. The Hunchback 4P, 4SP and 4J I'd rate as Tier 3.

Sure its not the worst out there, and I'd also prefer to use it over a bunch of other mediums (like the Vindicators), but it is definitely not a good mech either.

I assumed he meant good in tier 1 combat i.e. player tiers not mech tiers.

that is to say, The GI is not a good medium mech to use in tier 1 matches. Most F2P players though will be happy with a 30% Cbill mech, I know I am.

4P I'd bump up myself as its a very solid medium.

I did not mean tier 1 player rating. Meant it more like "top shelf"

For me its right there in the middle because it has enough hardpoints to make it interesting and most of them (non arm) ar fairly high mounted.

Yes it is not xl-friendly, but like any mech, you play it to its strengths.

The build I ended up using the most for the GI:

STD 270
2 AC5 w/ 5tons ammo

Strip armor to taste. It was funny when people people tried to take off my left torso, assuming I was XL, or try to use flamers to shut me down...

No, I am not touting this as some top shelf mech, but... levelable...
