Exclusive pre-order! The Cup of Pop Frigate!!! Now with a Straw-man cannon.
Seriously,
more like the side-arm.
how about a seismic sensor, some random stat tracker, data (digital read) on your real time heat instead of an orange bar,
a functional music player

Kind of funny that one of the few lore-based cockpit items in the game (seriously, the amount of lore-based items is like 1%), the Kerensky hologram, was limited edition for a few select whales. Basically nobody has it.
Pay 2 Lore
They've given that away in a bunch of events. I have like five of them now...?

- the ribbon given to Daniel Allard by Jeana Clay, the Sanglamore Sash
- the bounty hunters helmet
- a wad of cbills
- a needler gun or laser pistol
- glass from Hanse Davion & Melissa Steiners wedding
- mechwarrior cavalry spurs
- kurita daisho sword / knife
I think it would be great if PGI assigned as homework for staff to at least read 1 battletech novel a year.

I assumed that's what he meant, since the glasses don't appear to be anything special.
EDIT: And that is an atrocious scan. Maybe I should pull my out of storage and scan that.

I'm sure Chemistry students or Pharmacists/Chemists would dig chemical symbols on their mechs. RIGHT?!
With 50,000 players or more, I'm sure every cockpit item and decal has some people who appreciate it. It never ceases to amaze me how some people decorate their mechs. But in regards to the swords: first of all, the readability is so terrible, they just look like curvy lines when you put them on your mech. Nobody will be able to identify them, unless they know what they're looking at. And second, while there may be 10 people who really wanted an Egyptian bronze age curved sword on their mech, there are probably 1,000 players who might be interested in... just a regular western European long sword.
It's just weird how PGI is hitting those random demographics. Before we get a horse decal, for example, they release the goat decal. Which is fine for weirdos like me. But how many people actually wanted a goat on their mech, beside me? I'd wager there were a few more people who wanted horses, dragons, lions, eagles, etc.
The obvious stuff.

Mr. Winter,
That there is a set up that I am trying really hard to resist...
Doing the obvious. PGI.
Triggering!
Gahhhh!
It is utterly unfathomable at this point to be even the slightest bit surprised that PGI would fail to do something, nay, ANYTHING, that is obvious or obviously desired by the community in a direct and forthright manner. I mean this company's motto ought to be "Piranha Games: Taking what is known and easy and making it as convoluted and obscure as possible since 1999." Here is an actual Inter-office PGI memo:
Hey all, it seems alphas are too high so I propose the following: Lets have ghost heat, energy draw, screw with the stats of every weapon in the game, do it all at once and then be in awe of the fact that this "system" doesn't work. Sounds like a plan, cuz' we're PGI! Oh and next month lets screw with all the Kodiaks because the 3 is giving everyone the fidgets. Messing with all of them makes sense right? Of course it does! Remember our motto! Oh and lets mess with UAC stats too while were at it. That way we can hurt under performing mechs too because that is the PGI way!
Machine guns, flamers, fricken ECM, command console, jump jets, etc. etc. etc. things with obvious and easy fixes and PGI manages to make them as complex and frankly as NUTS as possible.
And now this. Cockpit items and decals (we're PGI so lets call them dekkals!) and you...you Mr. Winter. You want them to do the obvious? Now that is some gall right there.
Now while I stop hyperventilating I need to go drink a bottle of something semi-lethal to calm my nerves. Because THAT is the OBVIOUS thing to do here.

What about the Sun Hou-Tzu pendant Kai gave Victor as an hanging item?
What about the Word of Blake (the book) as standing item?
What about a Northwind Highlanders Warhorn playing bagpipes?
etc.
There are many, many good options just waiting to be implemented.
This is a great idea.
Pgi could totally create cockpit items for lore units. Warhorns, etc, for the Kell Hounds, Wolf's Dragoons, GDL, etc.

they probably test out the market with the 'lore' decals... this is easy to make... but guess what people are actually buying for decals...

That is not a bad thing. Star Citizen is becoming a bloated mess, and it's arguably reaching the point where even if it delivers on all it's promises, all the junk in it that people don't like (And it's such a colossal pile of stuff that everyone is going to have a part they hate) is going to end up taking away from the parts they do like. It's Bethesda Syndrome, where eventually it's not so much 'make your own fun' as it is 'grab a shovel and dig your fun out of this.'

Well the only relevant thing I have to say about Star Citizen is its not playable yet. So it remains vapour ware after years.
Fallout 4/Bethesda? Everyone and their dog wants a piece of it and some of that cant be avoided even by such a large title, there is some that cant be argued with. Even Microsoft got hauled in and had to make structure changes.
Andromeda? No one knows anything about that yet. Its most likely under siege to hand players garbage, so the competition selling garbage can continue to sell their garbage.

We suggested it for that dumb-arse contest for "practical" cockpit items...
We wound up with a dumb-arse Bonzi tree, a locket and a gas mask.

Sooo many good ideas (clock idea included) ignored in this sham of a contest...

I agree with you that PGI is half assed with its attempts. Sure the deckless; they're terrible and not exactly hitting the mark for a lot of customers. Just don't assume you're speaking for all of us. Just because you're not into moro weapons /indonesian/polynesian culture doesn't mean they haven't found a place with other players. If anything it shows that there is at least a smallest glimmer of hope that PGI pitched to its Oceanic players.

This statement is both totally irrelevant to the point being made (i.e. PGI covering the most popular and obvious desires in their playerbase before selling waffle cockpit items and extremely culture-specific weapons before the ones that tend to feature in regular heraldy, unit insignia, etc), and completely pointless (no one actually believes they're speaking on behalf of every single MWO player) and so very boring.
Yes, I get it. Some people actually deeply desire the Aluminium decal on their mech, for whatever reason. I covered this above.
