I get the feeling they were trying to duck the flak by not making their made up mech too powerful or standout-ish. Hence no interesting hardpoints, or ECM, MASC, or JJs.

But now what's the point of buying the thing?

Some interestingly balanced hard points which you can do a lot with looking at them but really don't see the need for newly invented mechs.

Okay so why did they think this is what we wanted? Has PGI ever thought about doing the things other devs do, such as have a poll and see what the playerbase actually wants?

It's an interesting gesture, but ironically adds nothing to the 'mech line up.

No melee.
No leg weapons.
Not a tripod.
Not a quad.
Not a transformer.

Nothing new.

Arms raised, I can see this mech having all hard points high up. That's the selling point cause I've gone over the loadouts and this like a Xmas tree without any branches.

I get where the complaints are coming from. We all wait with excitement for a specific 'Mech we want from the canon timeline.
**Sparing you my list**
But this design isn't ugly, as others have said. It's the offspring of a Warhammer and a Shadow Hawk.

and both of those are nice looking Mechs themselves.

MechWarrior purists be angry. Look at the hardpoints though this'll be a very viable mech

So where's the Annihilator? You know a good IS mech that could actually be a counter to the K-3 or Dakka Wolves?

Russ wrote we never did this before, well they were right and failed again.

Viable or not, this new, not in lore Mech is nothing special

sorry to burst your bubble but.... technically... it is in lore NOW :P just like the Deimos, Argus, Fafnir, Chimera, etc.

everyone of of those was added after the original bunch.

and in fairness, the Annihilator was Wolf's Dragoons only till nearly the Steiner Civil War, so of course it's not gonna show up. the Gunslinger, however, would work.

Better be some really big announcements later on, this is underwhelming to say the least.

Looks very cool. Glad to see them letting Alex Iglesias off his chain. He's created some very cool freelance concept art over time. For those of you saying this mech is ugly, or we need lore mechs only - I remind you that FASA/Catalyst are always coming up with new mechs, and some really suck sometimes. THIS mech ROCKS! But, to put things in perspective, let's look at some of the mechs PGI COULD have chosen instead:

Here is the Black Python aka Viper. This 75 ton monster would look GREAT in MWO, don't you think?
Posted Image

Here's the 50 ton IS mech called the Night Sky
Posted Image
But we're talking 65 ton mechs. Let's look at some of those options.

I bring you the comely Jaggermech III! Other than those high hard points, WHY in the world would ANYONE want to be caught dead driving this thing? It would be embarrassing to anyone with even a shred of aesthetic taste.
Posted Image

Or how about an oldie: the Exterminator! Sounds scary right? Well, Gary Gygax could have drawn a better looking mech (and if you want to know what that's about, check out the 1st edition Monster Manuals....).
Posted Image

The point is, of course, that there is room in the mechwarrior universe for something NEW, and with the stylings of Alex Iglesias creating some really industrial looking machines, I think we have that 'new look' that Battletech could use. Of course, there ARE lots of good looking mechs to choose from, still, but then again, there are mechs that look a lot better in computer games than in concept art too. Example: the Hellhound of MW4 looks really awesome, but the Hellhound from Battletech is generic looking. And what about the Deimos? One of my favorite mechs, so cool that it was adopted into canon and added to a tech readout. Wouldn't it be cool for some of Alex's designs to become canon?

And as another argument: remember how many of you critics said that Alex singlehandedly has saved MWO with his art?
That if the game didn't LOOK so good, it might have fizzled out? Well, taking his leash off and letting him design some battlemechs - that may become canon over time - is just about the greatest honor you could give an artist in this niche field. HE DESERVES IT ALL!

Thank you Alex!

All that being said... where is the Christmas mech pack I was expecting?? Warhammer IIC, Rifleman IIC, Griffon IIC, and Locust IIC????

Still nothing special, if it would have been a quad or with special equipment ( some thing else than a free, I share with my buddies BAP)

I wrote many times in the forum that Mechcon would not have any thing to change the game, this Mech prove it.
