Whether MW5 will be good or successful is anybody's guess. But, how PGI spends their money is their business. Better an MW title (and something that I have seen asked for multiple times on the forums) than something totally different as far as i am concerned.

Like I posted to you on another thread....These Bitter Vets will never change. PGI comes out with new game modes, rewrites the skill trees, AND are working on a stand-alone MW game with the Unreal engine....and they STILL complain.
Personally I'm pretty sure they can never be satisfied...complaining is the only thing they have to look forward to. Talking down to us new guys from their Golden mechs (that they polish using handfulls of salt and their own bodily fluiods
I'm psyched about all the new stuff coming out....then again, I'm new and not as burnt out as these Vets are...I guess..

The work on MW 5 was stated as being done by a new team. PGI is free to invest it's money where it wants. In fact I feel we are lucky that they chose to invest it in a Mechwarrior game.

I don't know about others but I played MW2 at least six times through, three times for each side. Ghost Bear's Legacy I played through at least five times because I enjoyed it so much, and MW2 Mercs I kept on playing over and over until MW3 released.
Some single player campaign's have a lot of replay value.

I think we can stop seeing PGI as interlopers in the BT/MW universe now. The work they have done artistically in mech design alone gets them a place at the table.
I'm mean, come on. The King Crab actually looks scary. Even the designs in previous Mechwarriors look a bit silly.

On a side note if MW5:M pans out then that means more money for PGI and more staff to work on MWO and more upgrades.

MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries helps MechWarrior Online and vice versa. Just like Battletech and MechWarrior Online have helped each other. No different.

PGI pisses me off for lots of reasons. This aint one of them.
I've thrown more money at this game than all but a few people that I am aware of and even I do not feel betrayed or misled. I spent money on a product, and the provider of that product is free to do with that money whatever it wants. While I have ceased to support PGI do to its failure to develop this product in a manner that I would like to see, I would never pretend that they "owed" me that development.
PGI, like any cmpany is entitled to do with its income whatever it wants. They could further develop this game in a direction that I would like to see. They could develop Transverse 2. They could develop MW5 and flush MWO down the toilet in due course. Etc. Etc. Each of those near infinite possibilities has free market consequences. You don't like it? Them's the breaks. Welcome to capitalism.

the team would have made the "teaser", then used the art assets to create the "demo" that russ played. at this point, it's practically an interactive trailer and nothing more.
so far, the only thing i can really see is that russ knows how to hire artists. PGI really did a good job with mech design in mwo and this mw5 trailer.
while one part of me hopes that this is a real taste of what the final game will look like, another part of me is kinda sceptical. remember the "in-game footage" label on the original mwo trailer? yeahhhhh.

That was one of my biggest takeaways from MechCon. It really is starting to feel like PGI cares about the IP of Battletech more than just milking their own product for all they can.
People have pointed out that putting manpower into creating a standalone game is really not efficient for them considering their current pricing model. (1 mech for the cost of some standalone games) And thats right. But it's something that Battletech is missing (a modern MW game)
A standalone game is what is going to bring new people into Battletech. The original games are what brought many of the current fans into the universe. And honestly, Battletech deserves it.

No because it already was, MWO has a budget, whether or not it is their only game does not change the fact that all work inside of one project is budgeted. Yes, there is wiggle room, but the point is the money you paid was that was earmarked for MWO Development was used for MWO. Projects can get move delayed and canceled, but they already have a budget number associated with them. Yes, 2016 was not a feature rich year, but that has more to do with their planning, management and bugs/problems that it does how money from purchases were used.

Obviously we need to wait and see but several major community desires.
- Standalone PvE with its own dedicated dev team, check
- Solaris, early stage but hopefully it'll get expanded (we'll see)
- New skill tree, this has been requested since forever. If you don't like the current model go ahead and give feedback.
- Unreal engine 4, this has been a long time request as well and Pgi actually has more experience with it. If MW5 is successful I'd wager MWO will get redone in unreal 4 or they'll make MWO:2 with UR4.
