Escort Service Game Mode

I like the idea. But I have the feeling that the Atlas that stomps straight through the map will be shot down in seconds by Gauss/PPC/ER-LL.
Surely it'll get some extra armor points here and there, but without twisting, using cover and having a known and predictable path it always takes... how can you keep it alive?

Hopefully, PGI will make use of the random dropzone in Scout mode, so attackers cannot camp a single path.

Best solution would be to create a meatshield of assaults. Preferable other Atlas mechs in the same color/paintscheme so the enemy dosn't know who they should focus.
Personaly I never like escort misions in any game...not just Mechwarrior games but any game.
In most games escort mission work simply because the AI is focusing you instead of the target. That gives you time to take them down.
Here...I doubt that human players will be so kindly and wait till every other player is dead.
What could make this mode work is randomising the target so the enemy team has to figure out who the WIP is this time.
Another solution would be to make the VIP a random player of the 12 people in a team.
Saves you the trouble with the AI running an a single path every time, would force some team coordination and give you another target every time.,,also oine that might act better then the AI

Escort will be repetitive, boring, and not fun with literally only 1 strategy used for every map, similar to the "group up and rush" strategy in every FW match every single time. If it's somehow not a disaster then I will be blown away by how impressed I am, but I can only assume it will be bad because PGI and it doesn't look like a good mode in the first place.
Assault 2.0 will turn into Skirmish: Bases Included Edition, and just like before when we had turrets the bases will be ignored entirely until the other team is annihilated. As I've said before, the fortified bases might be cool for a new attack/defend mode, but it will just be a shitshow when both teams have a base.
I'll be happy to be proven wrong but I see no reason to think that I will be.

Also, it will need some considerable structure buffs.. since, basically the only protection against sniping it or LURM'ing it down will be body blocking..
Remember back when in CW, you only had the Omega cannon, and people would just light-rush it, and that was it, game over?
Now the omega will be moving.. but the same strategy will work..
First anticipated update to game mode - two command MFB's you also need to take down, or a MFB that repairs the atlas mid-way..
Mark my words..
As far as the new assault mode goes..

Unless they make it asymmetric, with only one team having a base.. then in will be like mini FW Invasion.. also a skirmish, but shorter ;-)

The Atlas has special/lost tech. Clan 400 XL + unique weapons, and 1 randomly chosen person gets to pilot it.
I'd imagine more people would choose Escort option as a game mode instantly.
I wonder if they're phasing out some or any of the older options like skirmish and dom.

Right, that's what I mean by "a new attack/defend mode," but then at that point you might as well leave Assault alone and make a separate game mode.

The more durable the VIP is, the more risky it becomes for the attackers to focus all firepower on the VIP and ignoring the enemy players.
It would be kind of immersion-breaking if the VIP Atlas has a magical forcefield that lets it ignore 99% of all incoming fire, but PGI was never that big on immersion anyway.

To make it more goal oriented instead of just another skirmish mode, I would put the bulk payout for the match on the completion of the objective for each team. Give a huge bonus for that and to make it more interesting also give a big salvage bonus for each enemy Mech that is still alive when the VIP is captured. They too would be considered captured and the payout would reflect "spoils of war" or isorla.

No no no no! Please not this!
The danger of getting a hero in that atlas rushing enemy lines and yelling at the team, they have to protect him is high.
Or a smart guy trying to sneak at map border to exit point at speed of 69kph avoiding enemies on a map with size of Lurmlands.
Or a team sitting at those new AI turrets waiting for enemies to walk in...
Or a team telling this atlas pilot to hide for next 10 min while they kill the enemy team and blaming him if he get ambushed by enemies Alpha squad. While they have fun at simple skirmish-like fight in the mapmiddle.
Honestly. The Idea of escorting an AI VIP is not good... giving an RANDOM player the control of a VIP is even worse (I would 'love' to get an atlas when I selected my LCT-PB for a drop)... Do you remember those funny and realy popular V.I.P. mode in CS 1.6? No?
And the Idea of AI turrets... Make them strong and hell! It will be so 'fun' when all the lurmboats and leet sniper will sit on their new pocket defense. Having no warries with those annoying brawlers.
Make them less strong or easy destructable and they will lose their enitire point being a defense...
PS: Sorry if my writing 'sounds' agressive. It's not my intention.

All quick play drops being incorporated into fraction of warfare was mentioned at MechCon.
I would not be surprised to see escort as a regular play mode along with domination, conquest, assault, and skirmish.
Since the new faction warfare will incorporate quick drops into fighting for territory, I wonder if that means the voting system goes away and that type of battle and map type is determined by the planet being fought on and what is being fought over?
Editing once again to correct typos because apples voice recognition is poop compared to google's.

Ah yes. I remember that mission. I also remember wanting to kill that incompetent kid myself oh so many times when his bumbling idiocy got him killed! The only good noble is a dead noble, but not when it affects my paycheck!

The Atlas will be a bot, not an actual player.

Nevertheless, escort in an team based MP is not a good idea. The team, that have to kill the VIP WILL have an giant advantage...
