Did he say this before, or after the rage about the skill tree started, because the short introductory film clearly stated Quirks removed and a blank area.

It didn't state quirks reduced.

I bet this will end up with weaker mechs having "bonus skill nodes unlocked from the start", a.k.a. quirks not called quirks.

They could also do it by varying the amount of XP needed (to nunlock nodes) vary by Mech Type / Weight Class.

I.e. light mechs needing considerably less XP to unlock nodes in the tree, than heavier mechs

I personally think the mech will NOT all have the same skill point cap. As I said in my thread here ( https://mwomercs.com...-line-thoughts/ ). There will mostly be a base line starting point for all mechs than based on weight, weapon #,weapon hard points types, Special equipment all of this factors modify the max skill points a mech can earn.

Damn! So I'll still need to level up the basics on two other chasis before mastering the one I want to play.

Thanks for the quick reply, Gentleman Reaper!

Not sure if you're being funny.
Why bother to level anything as the very nature of the new system makes leveling irrelevant.

it was said on Twitter after Mech Con, but i doubt that this was an after thought,
everyone knows all mechs are created equal, and such un skilled Trial mechs would be way imbalanced,
as such i feel they always planed to have some Quirks stay as Russ has said such was always the intention,

Perhaps. The presentation video states simply that the quirks are removed...with a depiction on screen of whole sections of the mech lab listing of quirks disappearing. Russ's clarification tweet about under performing mechs needing base line help came a few days later (Tuesday I believe) after the forums, and even twitter blew up. It seems obvious that the video should have said something very different than "quirks removed" if some (probably) a lot of quirks or their functional equivalent are going to remain.

My fear is that the intention really was to remove all quirks and Russ was forced to respond when everyone went ballistic over what is obvious that if some mechs that need quirks to be playable will be at an even greater disadvantage under the new quirks system. If I am right, that means at the very least that this new system is not yet a system, but rather a mere idea that they are still playing around with.

edited for the most obvious spelling errors.

Someone above said that Russ said this would be coming in February? Are we placing bets on that?

Not true at all, you get a full refund of C-bills and XP, so you lose nothing, although I agree that trying to master a chassis with multiple variants is unnecessary now, since you can master a mech by itself with the new skill system.

I wish I had known more or that PGI would have had a FAQ or even some thread that had factual information

this early AM I removed all Modules from all my Mechs (except 2)

turns out the Module change is not going to happen this year and then it will go to PTS

I thought all this was going to happen 13 Dec 2016

Usually i'd agree, but there are a few mechs out there (QKD IV *cough) which nobody in his right mind would buy without its quirks (even then it's debatable)...

Yes !Cough and I MC-ed the dam IV and now I have to pay for it again and if PGI want the same (abilities it had before) hey keep doing this like saying to me and every one else DO not spend any CASH on this game becasue "I PGI will make you pay for it over and over and over because your stupid if you MC (Cash) anything in this game. So IF PGI make take the PERK for MC (cash) that is tells me never to buy anything from them again becasue PGI is not allowing you access to the mech you paid for (example for the QKD-IV) . At the least they should covert all the perks over to new (abilities) or equelent skills on MC-ed mechs.

Some people are saying that not all quirks are going to disappear. Which is good because some of them (looking at you, "yaw") I have no idea what they are and I would not spend points on them.

I own over 200 modules. If fully reimbursed, I'm looking at about 800,000,000 c-bills.

I have 38 chassis mastered. I think it takes 57,250 XP to master a single mech, not including the other 2 mechs that had to be elite'ed...which would be 35,750 XP per mech. So it would be 128,750 XP for each chassis plus 13 other variants of the same chassis that is mastered. So if fully reimbursed, I'm looking at about 5,172,000 XP.

Wow.

I wonder how much Respecing will cost.

Respeccing is free, you just lose ALL the XP you placed....

Wasn't there a tweet saying they are currently writing down more details regarding kept balancing quirks etc. and that it has to wait until after the patch?
Well, the patch is here for some time, now.
MOAR details!!!

This video is good but a more detailed video would be great or have it added to the game even better.
