Skill tree:
My main concern is pricing and grind, I get the sneaking suspicion PGI is gona be like "well they no longer require 3 mechs to completely master one so lets make it take 3 times longer for each one hur dur!" which is just gona be frustrating. If they make it take about the same time as it currently does with final upgrades on a mech totalling 60K like it does now then no biggy. Even 75k would be alright with me as I don't have to grind up 3 per chassis anymore.
Now what do we do when we want to respect the mech? well I've heard from the grape vine that we pay C-bills or Mc to restart it. MC allows us to keep all xp and just reput it where we want while C-bills looses some of it so we have to grind up again. I personally don't like the sound of that at all! How much is the C-bill cost? if its something like 200,000 then no biggy that's just a game or 2 but if its like 3 million WTF that would be stupid.
Then there is the lost XP which if its 10% then its not a big hit you just have to have some xp saved up on your mech before you re-speck it from meta to meta. If its a complete xp wipe then WTF again!? takes long enough to grind up there's no way you could save up to change mechs around, defeating the purpose of customising your mechs.
My biggest issue from what little I can assume is that the new skill tree is more fluid with actual choices to it but it sounds unwieldy and a huge drain on resources requiring more xp and C-bills to be put into it. Which I am afraid might give older players with their big coffers and xp build up an advantage over newer ones who will probably give up the ridiculous grind.
Assault:
new game mode is gona run into the same problem all the other game modes run into. Without respawns the most effective way to achieve victory is just to deathball and kill the enemy mechs. <shrug> but they might surprise me
No more quirks:
perhaps i was one of the few strong supporter of quirks but with them gone whats gona balance the playing field against meta mechs. I hope they keep them or come up with another effective system before they let this new skill tree loose.
All in All i actually have hope for the changes... there is just so much that can go wrong.
