What Would Be The Ideal Mwo Endgame?

According to Wikipedia, an endgame is "The gameplay available in a massively multiplayer online role-playing game for characters that have completed their level progression".

For those of you who were gaming back when World of Warcraft was new, the "endgame" was basically all the cool stuff that you could unlock when you hit level 60. There was PVP for level 50-60, I believe. And of course, there was a lot of special gear when you hit level 60. But most importantly, there was the level 60 dungeon where you would get raids together and have a jolly good time. Molten Core, Blackwing Lair, etc. Not only was this inaccessible to lower level players, it was also a lot more complex and required a lot better coordination and preparation.

MWO is not an MMORPG. It's basically just a series of matches where you bring your mech. It's kind of similar to Star Conflict, except Star Conflict has different tiers. They're basically like levels in an MMORPG. As you buy ships of higher tiers, you can engage in matches at a higher level, where gameplay is more complex and all the ships have better stats, have more special abilities, etc. MWO isn't like that either.

MWO is basically like chess. In chess, there's no "endgame" in the sense of MMORPGs. The endgame in chess is what you call the end of the match. In chess, you just play match after match after match. You can improve your rank, but there's no real end goal, so there's no grind. Playing the game is the goal.

I hear people talk about an endgame for MWO. Usually it's something like:
  • Community Warfare / Faction Play should be the endgame. (Only makes sense if CW / FP is restricted)
  • Mastering / upgrading your mechs should be the endgame. (Makes no sense)
  • Collecting new mechs should be the endgame. (Makes no sense)
  • Achievements and titles should be the endgame. (Makes no sense)
  • Cosmetic rewards should be the endgame. (Makes no sense)
  • Leaderboards should be the endgame. (Makes no sense, unless Leaderboard is restricted to Tier 1, for example.)
Do you think that MWO needs an endgame, in the sense of MMORPG endgames or the Star Conflict example above, where certain content is off-limits until you reach a certain level? One example would be a separate Tier 1 queue, for example. (Yes, yes, settle down)

Or do you prefer MWO to have no separate endgame, to keep it like chess or tennis or poker. Just a series of matches you play for fun while trying to improve your skills.

beside meaningful FP (because that would make sense)?

Maybe some kind of solaris duelling where you can climb a ladder, kind of ranked gameplay if you must stay on this esport road.

However... do we really *need* endgame content? CS has no endgame, BF has no endgame, so many FPS MPs don't have it either.

The game has lost it's fun for me because there is no end game. The issues the game has might be more easily overlooked if there were some kind of meaningful endgame content.

I would love to see FW become that content, but it will never happen.

Some games simply don't have mandatory progression. This game is one of them, for better or worse, so for MWO the 'End Game' is just what would typically be at the end of the progression.

If your question requires actual progression, then there's your answer - There's no end game in MWO, and it's functionally impossible to add one without overhauling everything.

Pretty boring discussion.

Leader board is pointless when the first 2-3 pages are filled with nothing but people who have less than 20 games or people with 165 kills and 2 deaths in 60 games......because that is obviously just skill right ?

CBill betting on Solaris matches. First it will be like: 'Oh it's cool I'd just like to burn a few cbills to support my favorite team'. Then it devolves into intense fan wars and red vs blue mentality. Finally the Mafia gets involved in Solaris game fixing and there are Solaris riots on the streets. It will be awesome.

The best endgame would be Justin Bieber becoming addicted to this game & posting about it on social media.

Millions of crazy teeny bopper stalker girls swarming everywhere hoping to interact with him.

Since many in the community seem determined to pave a road to hell with salt.

Why not do it to the absolute fullest potential.

I always had this idea... just 4 times a day, you can que into a raid map. The match is 100 v 100 with 30 min match time. The rewards for cbill, mechxp, or GXP is quadrupled for the trouble.

The 100 v 100 match will take place on a 25x25 square kilometer map with various objectives. Because the map is so huge, after the herd is thinned, it's most likely not to ever end with one side decimating others. So it becomes imperative to do squad objectives to earn massive bonuses.

But imagine the centerline engagement... 50v50 super combat... if you think 12v12 is rough? BING BAM!

mwo doesnt have the poulation to split people up by how far theyve progressed.

the true end game, in my opinion, is teaching those less skilled than you, or spreading your accumulated knowledge to the newer players. this isnt one of those games were leveling makes you op, you cant improve your character in game, you can only improve yourself as a player. so helping others to reach your level of skill so you can continue to have good matches IS the end game, if your idea of an endgame is something that keeps the game relevent and fun for yourself.

also, theres some merit to the idea that only people who have reached a certain teir should be able to play FW, i think that teir should be 4, but if they do it only for teir 1, then i guess thats a form of end game.... not one i like, but definetly an endgame.

There probably isn't really a mechanism to include an endgame, going by that sort of definition, other than perhaps "winning tournaments/leagues of some kind". The tier system isn't a levelling system, so I'm not sure it's really all that useful for gating content, and it's not like MWO currently has so many different ways/modes of play that walling parts of that content off behind a barrier won't materially affect players on both sides of the wall.

As a pure "multiplayer shooter", I don't know that it needs an endgame, by that definition. I would like to find a more meaningful reason to play than just "shooting robots", notwithstanding the enjoyment I get from doing just that. Perhaps it's on me to find a bottom tier MRBC team with a space available on its roster. I know there was some hope that FW would be that "meaningful reason" but clearly enough people have found it wanting that at this point it's pretty much impossible to burn-out on FW as it can be tricky to find matches (in my experience).
