Poll: Weapon Brands and Manufacturers Poll (140 member(s) have cast votes)

Do you want more variation in weapons than just damage ratings?

  1. No - all AC/10's should have identical stats (48 votes [34.29%])

    Percentage of vote: 34.29%

  2. Yes - there should be some variation, and we should finally see why everyone uses Martell medium lasers (54 votes [38.57%])

    Percentage of vote: 38.57%

  3. I want a taco. (38 votes [27.14%])

So, in the lore, different mechs and different factions used different "brands" of guns and such, and then the game rules gave us the AC 5, 10, 20 delineations.

So, this being MWO and thus an MMO, I was wondering... will we be seeing variations on some weapons when going from one 'brand' to another?

Will an Imperator have a faster rate of fire, but lower accuracy, than the Armstrong Buster? Will Sarna's entry regarding the Autocannon 10 and referring to how "the Crusher Super Heavy Cannon is a 150mm weapon firing ten shells per "shot", while the Chemjet Gun is a 185mm weapon firing much slower, but causing higher damage" see some variation between differing versions of "the same gun?"

Too many variables, better to keep it simple, cool post though.

Well, I think this kind of stuff would be great for "Rare" items and such.

Just a thought.

I think what they will do for varients is mainly have them as vanity items. No different stats but different looks you can buy with real money. That is just my thought on the matter

This would be cool on the condition that if it gets destroyed in a match, it's gone forever.

But unified stats would be better for simplicity's sake.

I would like to see different manufacturers weapons have different stats, but identical DPS.
so one AC5 fires slowly, one in bursts, and one full auto, but all do identical DPS.

The mechlab learning curve will be high enough for the uninitiated.

Pointless. Plus you would need varient ammo. What if you mix a full auto and semi auto ac5? It is unneeded complexity.

I don't think we need that level of variation...

But maybe one AC-10 has a slightly higher rate of fire (like, 5% at most), another slightly more damage per hit (again, maybe 10.5 damage instead of just 10), and yet another that was slightly more accurate ("+1 to all range increments.")

All would use the same ammo, same tonnage, hardpoint, crit spaces, etc.

I wold love to see "Brands" implemented even to the point of availability based on geographic location, but there is no way it will happen. It is possible, but it is a dev's nightmare. Just utterly impractical - never mind the play-testing factor. This is one of those ideas that is simply beyond what can be currently achieved.

No. Then you have a gear grinding ecosystem that destroys competitive play and turns off new players.

I don't thikn you can have "Rare" equipment in a game without salvage.

gear grinding is already in, you need to grind C-Bills to buy new tech and mech.

However, I don't think this add much since we already have weapon upgrades (get an LB10X or Ultra-10, or Gauss), I don't think name brand distinction will bring any benefit to the game, just add an unnecessary layer of complexity.

Yeah. But you don't roll on the chance that you might be able to get an ac10 with .5 extra damage. You have a clear target to work toward that isn't hidden behind a layer of obscurity called a random number generator.

I think they should have teh same stats, but it would be cool if different factions had different manufacturers.

Just to be clear, these are both AC20s.

Not necessarily. It's not intended to be like one AC/5 is 'better' than another AC/5, but i'd love to have some diversity in this sector. There are arguments for and against single shot or rapid fire or even continuous fire ACs. Off course all must do 5dmg/10sec if they hit the same spot in this 10sec!

Easy way to suit different playstyles, and not really that much horror in the balance department if done right.
