I think it tanks fairly well [for a lightly-armored heavy] because I almost always lose my arms before my torsos. Well, when I'm playing correctly that's how it goes.
Those big arms just seem to catch 90% of shots a lot of the time which is why having weapons in them seems less of a good choice than the torso mounts.
Still, you're limited to basically two weapons, which kinda puts a damper on things.

edited for clarification

what big arms? You can hit the summoners ST and maybe CT from every angle. The arms cover nothing.

Isn't the Hunchback IIC-A with twin ER PPCs regarded as very strong/Tier 1 mech? And with loyalty hardpoints, the Summoner outclasses that mech by a fair margin.

It took quirks and omni-pods to get to a point where the Summoner is on equal to slightly superior footing in a single head to head contest vs. a 50 ton medium mech.

Except this game isn't 1v1. This is a team game where the mech you choose matters for your team, and the Summoner build most people refer to roughly brings the same amount of firepower (at the least, same actual alpha size) as a 50T medium mech.

So you spent 70 tons instead of 50 tons to do the work a 50 ton mech can do, when instead you could bring 65 to 75 tons of a different heavy mech that has the kind of heavier firepower you expect from a heavier mech.

Outside of the solo queue, tonnage and/or mech weight class actually matters - because Group Queue has tonnage restrictions, FW has drop deck tonnage limits, Competitive play has tonnage and/or weight class restrictions.

Locusts are OP;
Summoners are OP.

Next month, Victor may be OP! (faith increased)

You, sir, have no idea what you are talking about.

...

But i like winining and getting good stats by being good not by fielding a mech that is quite obviously super overpowered.

Oneda, that you're a very skilled pilot and know a helluva lot about erPPC mechanics as well as proper sniping strategy is not what I meant to imply or dispute. The season 6 leaderboard numbers alone speak volumes. For season 6 alone you've got double my experience and at least double the skill (more like triple).
But I do believe I know at least something about erPPC mechanics from the amount of time I spend using them:

Mech' ............................. Matches Played

SUMMONER SMN-B......... 180
SUMMONER SMN-D......... 256
SUMMONER SMN-F(L)....... 9
PRIDE............................... 79
SUMMONER SMN-PRIME.. 219

I am simply putting those #s up to demonstrate how much time I have using erPPCs and Summoners. I'm in the progress of working on 'gettin gud.'

I disagree on "being able to dish out PPC alpha 'for days'" because after the fourth Alpha it's time to cool down for a good 10 seconds or so, and a lot can happen in 10 seconds, as you know. After that 10 secs I've cooled down just barely enough to get one erPPC shot off, not alpha.
To really get back to fighting capacity I need about a half minute of no-shooting time. That feels like days.

I wouldn't call it a PPC minigun, it feels more like a Springfield M1903. But even chain firing the heat builds up to a point where I just have to stop...again for at least 10 seconds, just to be able to get one shot off. But you already know all this.
I wish there was room for four more DHS to squeeze in with that TCV but there just is not:
Either I get the velocity to hit my distant targets but need to stop and cool down for days, or I drop the TCV for more DHS to have very good cooling capability but miss more than I hit.

I still do not think that SMN is over powered: It's just right for its niche. That' my main point.

And I misjudged/misinterpreted your statements where I thought you 'do not like competition to your HBK-IIC,' which you cleared up. I apologize for the mistake on my part, and thank you for the clarification.

Overall I agree with you, just not on the "OP" part.
And I did not come here to play Forum Warrior Online. Especially against you.
I've got a lot of respect for skilled pilots, and especially for PPC/erPPC snipers.

You're a better shot against many of the people I play against.

At the mech death screen around 90% of the time I see that my arms are both gone, usually one ST, and was killed by either CT core or the other ST.

Why bother bringing LRMs if you're not going to pack any ammo...? I'd drop artemis or switch to regular mediums.
SMN-PRIME

A little less alpha for more range and ammo. Same DPS.

I compared that 4 MPL+ALRM20 against a 'D' I use that has 4ERML+UAC20.
I got better results with the pulse laser build. I dumb-fire the LRMS at close range unless someone calls for LRMs on a target.
The con with that huge LRM is that you're so much easier to hit.
It's a very fun build.

I agree with you on the topic's main point: give those quirks to other erPPC mechs as well instead of nerfing the SMN. That makes sense.

You really wanna start practicing jumpsniping. It will up your game. It saves armor and in the current dakka-heavy meta, enemies have to aim with you moving on an arc. Clan Dakka will get spread as a result.

Also helps with brawling. There may be more old Koreanese vids on youtube but the take-away is: move in serpentine 'S' patterns. Use terrain and draw distance. Keep a mental image of where enemies are and are headed. Unlike Koreanese's Jenner, you can peek for less time, but a Summoner wont bet getting up top of most terrain.

I have 600 matches in Thors and I never lose the arms first. Its the ST's that get blown off.

What if, hypothetically speaking, i could show you stats of a myst lynx prime with 170 matches a w/l of 2.56 and a k/d of 3.4?
Is it, theoretically speaking, op and needs to be nerfed too?

I totally get it. My big problem is Siri is messed up voice dictation. I think I should stop there because it'll start messing up.
I'm sure there has been some weird grammatical errors or typos already. But I won't crack them because they probably sound stupid or funny. Or maybe that's just the Japanese rice vodka speaking ...?

I do think of the children to but not about the lambs. They are just food like the Egyptian dood down the street sells at the Gyro stand ;)
Again: all mistakes in this post or attributed to Siri and not the rice wodka!

Heavy mech made of glass that's stuck running medium mech builds needs nerfs?
Nerfing it would consist of removing its agility and structure quirks which are the only reason it can take and twist off some damage.
