FTFY.

And all I want is for people to treat potatoes with respect. But I'm biased because I am one. I'm getting a little tired of being yelled at and reported for running a lore build when someone notices.

It is not really difficult to be last man standing in a SHC if you mostly hide/avoid the fight .

In fact, I had a HPG Match roughly 30 mins ago where we had a SHC on our side, who also was last man standing . The guy camped the same spot the entire Match . He did not move to support Teammates on any Target . IF he had, he couldve scored at least 3 easy kills BEFORE he came down cos he was last . Simply because his Teammates damaged a lot of 'Mechs terribly, and had he supported them/been there where he had LoF, he could have finished them from a distance, therefore relieving a TeamMate .

But what he did is, he stayed largely immobile until he was alone...then came down, ran around for about 4 mins I think, and managed to kill ONE 'Mech...while there were at least 4 enemies with open and Cherry Red CTs. He scored roughly 800 dmg though .

To be fair though, it seemed he was pretty new to the Game, or at least the SHC, so his behaviour is understandeable .

I guess what I want to say is: what you describe above is not necessarily difficult to achieve, or a sign of MadSkillz .

I agree, as I've seen the exact same thing from pilots of every weight class. And, I will also agree it's NOT that hard to be the last man standing. no matter what weight class.
Do I hide? nope I find a position that provides a view of the battle and seek targets to both lock and shoot ( in the match I refered to I fought from beginning to end). Was I claiming to have "MadSkillz"? Nope, hell that was one of my best matches! Normally I avg between 300 and 500 damage a match. Am I a better pilot today than when I started? Dang tooting I am and getting a little better every match.
Am I new? By some's standards I could be considered new ( heck I've only got a bit over 3k in matches under my belt).
My point is everyone plays the game differently, different roles, different styles, different mechs etc. If everyone played every mech variant the same, or everyone played the same role or weapons etc. The game would be quite boring.

Actually, I demand that PGI develop a Potato title. A 100 drop average of less than 100 pts will earn it for you. It should come with a dashboard item like a potato-powered wristwatch or sommat.

Try making minor customization that fit within lore then I guess? The only weapon I changed from the MAD-3R was the AC-5 to a UAC-5. Which im told was possible just super expensive in the story. Doing super well with it and I haven't played in almost a year.

Hey Restosill, you can take your lore build and drive that all over the map. No person pays your internet bill, you are not on their world champion team... the only person you are responsible to in this game is yourself. If you are having fun with it, good on you. Please, by all means, try to win, for yourself and the team. I do run a couple lore-based builds (dropped mgs and added armor but no major mods), and it can be tough sometimes swimming in the seas of meta... but it is more fun for me and gives me great satisfaction to kill the big metas with my little bit of lore.
Mech choice does not make you a potato... I have seen many potatoes driving the latest "pay to win" models of mechs and they are still potatos.
Bad tactical decisions on a regular basis make a potato a potato.

If you're offended by the use of your beloved tuber as a metaphor, maybe call the bad players turnips instead. Up here in my part of the world, that's what we eat when times get REALLY miserable.

Potatoes? Luxury! (yorkshireman voice)

Folks,

I formally demand we stop calling useless players "potatoes", potatoes are actually useful, tasty, nutritious (based on a BBC documentary).

Here's some examples of how a potato can be useful:
http://mentalfloss.c...o-with-a-potato

I am opening this thread to discuss a new name for this league of player.

This comes from a match yesterday where I had a nubbsticle in a hunchback IIC decide to ram me up the *** so I couldn't retreat and forced me to tank for nothing. Then the bright minded muppet finally charges past in front of me and I have to pull back an alpha shot just cause he wanted to see who I was shooting at. He then worked out he bit off more than he can chew and finally started using the jumpjets to hide back into the shadows.

Almost each match I seem to find people who think they can hang onto my mech for cover, then ditch me when I actually might need em.

you forgot potato printing

so basically he was totally worthless cancer.... better to be a potato than a cancer pilot running RVN-3L, ACH, SHC, CDA-3M, Pokebear, etc. Its possible for a potato to learn and become better... cancer is irredeemable and is proud of being the cancer in the game.

Potatoes are people who are forcefully resisting to adapt and continue whatever sh1t they are doing and ruining everybody else experience. I dont have anything against new players having trouble, I trained enough myself and introduced them to the game. But willingly and on purpose not improving oneself is the least sportsmanship I can image.
If you dont want to improve why bother playing? After all playing is about learning and improving.
That's half of human kinds evolvement. Playing around with stuff and learing how it works.
If you start small and are willing to improve be my guest, I am not considering these people potatoes.
Anybody else get into the potato salad pot.

There is "playing to learn" and there is "playing to relax", among other possible things. Not everyone does the former though.

Also, demanding everyone be the former is being elitist, as far as I am concerned anyway.

Bads deserve no sympathy at all and should be mercilessly mocked at every opportunity until they are shamed into gitting gud.

Even then, you only mock the turbo bads, people who are just mediocre are worth nurturing.

See above. Some of latter are in the "I don't give a flying **** what you say. I am here to chill out." category.

Lore builds should really get extra c-bills per match IMO. They look/sound like are hard work. I have respect for that.
But someone reported you for running a lore build?!

My question here is, are you really a potato? so just say you are running a poor build etc. Are you hiding away from the team, not participating in the match objectives etc.

Someone running a bad build can still achieve some damage or get some kills but more importantly, contribute to the team effort (cap/escort/tanking damage etc).

I get sick of the people who don't seem to want to do any of that.

I have to sound like I have a persecution complex, but yes, people have got that angry at me for running lore builds. Also gotten **** on for posting gifs on the forums, but IG.

Anyways, yes, I am a potato. My horrible aim+terrible decision making for when and where to move in seals that. Only reason my stats are starting to go up recently is because I've been running almost solely my Adder Prime, and it's a bit hard to go wrong with vomiting out PPCs every few seconds.

I'd never report someone for their build, unless it was something obviously intended to troll teammates, like a single small laser on an Atlas.

I will often comment that a build is terrible and suggest ways to improve it though.

the football guy isn't playing the game. true.

but the basketball guy "is". he's "trying to make 3 pointers".

he's playing the game as much as the direwhale waddling off alone to cap the furthest point in conquest even though you've seen that guy so many times in-game that by now, he should know that by doing what he's doing, he's consciously being a detriment to the team.

I have a suggestion for a replacement name from the plant family.

How about an Osage Orange?

https://en.wikipedia...aclura_pomifera

The trees produce these funny, green, brain-like fruit that nobody eats and don't do anything particularly useful. They just sit there, kind of gummy, and are basically useless. The brain-like appearance can tie in with how "potatoes" tend to think they are smart for doing insanely doltish things.

The above is mostly sarcasm... mostly... hehe... Posted Image

Two options in the rl: deal with hin or remove him from the team.

Two options in mwo: deal with him or play grouplay without him

If you play as pug you have to take what you get and try to do the best with it,
if you cant bear it, play groupplay where you can pick your team.
