I recently got a PXH-1B and wondering what is a good build for it.
It seems ok at med range combat but people say its more of a PCC carrier?
Any good builds you guys have?

I run my 1B with an ERPPC/RT, PPC/ML RA. I changed recently from a dual PPC and 2 med las build. Both are spear and shield builds, meaning that I have an empty arm that I twist towards the enemy as a shield. Still trying to figure out if I like the change. I switched to the ER for extra close range damage versus the regular PPC's. Still torn about the heat tho. The 1B has been my most consistent mech to date and has provided some clutch matches for me. I really enjoy it.

2 PPCs, 2 MGs, 6 JJs and a big engine.

3 ER LL (all right side), 1 JJ, 1 or 2 DHS and the biggest engine you can squeeze in there. Strip armor off the left arm.

PXH-1B

That's the build I use on mine, not to fantastic results, but decent considering the mech's weaknesses.

You can put a good build on a phoenix hawk but you cannot make a phoenix hawk good so long as it is the size of a 75 tonner.

Only from the front, not counting the massive air gaps between the arms and ST's or between the legs.... how ever if you turn it side ways, it's Kate Moss thin....

Does your mech shoot sideways or do you have to face the enemy to fire?

Its a long range support build but it works great:

Chickadee is my favorite PXH (and I like the chassis). It's better optimized IMO. No reason not to go asymmetric, 2JJ is plenty and you have way too much back armor, but conceptually the same build. Basically a giant RVN-3L.

I have varying success with this. Not too big a fan of the single PPC and 3 mediums. I prefer a more brawlerish build. Get in close, let ECM mess with targeting while I skirt around with the team and harass up close. But like I said, varying results.

Depends on how good you are with "zoom and boom" tactics as well as with feathering the JJ's....

True enough, but the point still stands; you have to put so much more effort into making a phoenix hawk perform well than you do some of the top tier mechs, some of which are as simple as look, shoot, component destroyed, twist

I'm aware of what happens at higher PSR games, for a while I ran with the old comp team from CGBI, and have tested myself against EMP, LORDS, CSJ, 228, NS and the old MercStar... and I learned that I do not enjoy that level of play, hence why I prefer to stay in the minor leagues and play mechs I find fun, in builds I find fun, when I feel like playing.

I still don't get why people are constantly harping on how bad the Phoenix Hawk sucks. Mine is actually quite an effective 'mech. It's like a Cicada except with arms.

It's a flawed chassis, but especially after the recent buffs, much better than its rep.

I haven't run the 1B a lot, but this is what I had in mine. 3xSPL+2xMG in arms, in the same fire group. I put an LPL in the torso mount -- used to have an ERPPC, but it kind of traps you in a ranged poking, while the LPL in low-heat enough to use in brawls. 6JJ because it's fun.

Oddly I prefer the arm-weapons-only variants. For me the arm armour buffs made a drastic difference and now I keep my arms in most games, and I enjoy the agility of having all weapons in arms.

My personal build I personally find it pretty strong and people tend to underestimate the MG's and 3ML combination, with your speed and agility you can easily dance away and keep pumping the PPC in. Main weakness is dealing with lights that can stay in close as they will out DPS you and out position you.

Can I have any good med range builds?
I don't really like far range builds. It doesn't seem good. I would use hvys or assaults for long range
Also how is it PHX on Scouting missions?
