Command Console in the Atlas AS7-D-DC means 2-player cooperative piloting!

I know it's not like a Dual Cockpit where 1 person pilots and 1 person guns... but a Mech with a Command Console is a 2-pilot Mech by design and function!
Devs, is this an intended feature of the game?
*shudders with anticipation*

I'm hoping we don't end up shuddering with something else... (Like disappointment...)

In other words..that 2nd person just sits in the Mech and gives orders to the people actually using the Mechs

If the Mech experiences a cockpit-kill, the backup pilot is still alive to pilot the Mech in combat, so it's not out of the fray yet.

Command Console
http://www.sarna.net...Command_Console
Some folks have just been copy/pasting from sarna is all or paraphrasing. I wouldn't put more stock in it at all until a dev says yay or nay.

Page 60 of Maximum Tech - "Though the command consoles do not normally operate the battlemech, they may do so if necessary." ... "If the primary cockpit is destroyed, the secondary pilot can maneuver the BattleMech from the command console as normal. This is an exception to the standard rule stating that the destruction of a cockpit destroys the 'mech. In 'mechs with command consoles, both cockpits and and consoles must be destroyed in order to destroy the 'mech."
It also describes the second cockpits as being fully functional with all the controls of a standard cockpit, plus their command and control systems.
So, yes, it does control the mech.

As for us getting that in the game...uh...really don't see that happening myself, especially since PGI has made it clear, you, the MechWarrior, can't be killed in MWO, rather silly to have a 2nd seat that could take over if you died

Now..for those truely die hard Commanders, those without any twitch skills or the ability to really multitask in a combat enviroment...yeah...I could see this being something they'd like...maybe.

BUT for 1 ton you get 3rd person view. I'm not even sure it is worth 1 ton, maybe a micro transaction. but that is where I place the value of dual seat mechs (atlas, battlemaster, fleat, etc)

Also it would lead to all kinds of trouble about who owns the mech and who has the rights to mod it and stuff like that. Simply unrealistic.

Regarding the wiki --> isn’t it a third party site? If it’s so, I wouldn’t take everything that’s written there overly serious

Keep in mind much of what is on the battlemech pages on the MWOwiki is basically acting like a place holder for when the game is released. Currently, they just list the variants available in 3048 in the BattleTech universe. Once actual information is released, I can easily plug it into the existing framework on those pages. Unfortunately, I don't have access to any inside knowledge. I'll make that clearer on the notices on the tops of those pages. The AS7-D-DC and command consoles do exist in 3048 though, so who knows, maybe they will be included. Not sure how crazy I would be about riding in the back seat though.

The AS7-D-DC was originally a Dual Cockpit system which had 1 pilot and 1 gunner...
I still hate Herb for ruining the DCCS (Dual Cockpit Combat System) by changing it into a command console.

it;s not about sharing control as such, one person drives the mech whilst the other co-ordinates the unit. the second seat, the command console, is a separate role entirely from piloting a mech.
A third person view would not be a benefit, it's a simulator and that would ruin the immersive nature of the sim.
