I found your Deviantart, you've got some really good stuff.
Oh geez... That account holds all my secrets... dont go back too far if you wish your vision to stay working properly. You have had your retinas warned. Aka stuff that goes into the past is pretty terrible...

May I ask you to tell me about each step you take to create your glorious mechs so I can improve my own art?

OK so the biggest thing you can do is to practice and be patient. Nothing can replace that. However I do just happen to have a tutorial that Autodesk sketchbook pro asked me to put together. If you aren't using or never heard of sketchbook pro, it's fine. Just look at what I'm drawing and ignore the tool tips. http://www.sketchboo...w-mechs-basics/
Basically my process is: start super loose and rough. This is where you get your drawing in good proportions and compositionally good. At this stage ignore details at all costs. Once happy, draw a more refined layer on top working in details and fixing perspective etc. Then just keep doing that until you are happy.
Look closely and you can see my rough and loose sketch underneath my Argus. I left it in there as it can sometimes add some visual interest. It's mainly just a personal preference. This sketch could do with at least another pass for linework and details but I'm OK with this a little looser. My original post in this thread has another linework pass.
Hope that helps
