This is confusing to me because I can't imagine anyone not being on broadband today (broadband is anything beyond 56K aka dialup). Now you can have latency issues (ping) but that is not the same as bandwidth and the millisecond ping issues aren't going to be noticeable when loading unless your ping is over 900ms in which case the game would be unplayable to you anyways. Whether on isdn, cable, or fiber our connections should result in nearly the same load times, the server is only sending a small amount of data to the client (your computer) when getting the match ready so your computer knows what assets to load for the match which is a local operation.

<snip>

It's not the connection that is causing the delay, it's the time it takes the players PC to load up the map and art assets and start the game engine. Buy everyone you play MWO with an SSD and everyone will be ready in the first 10 seconds, assuming they have a CPU that can move the data fast enough.

I was just cutting the lag issue off before it started. Now in 2016 I would imagine that everyone has a quad processor or better and standard spinning harddrive in a computer 4 or less years old. BTW my computer is not a super computer its just average and it is 3 years old. In fact my daughters 2 year old Piece Oh Crap $400 dollar laptop loads this game in less than 20 seconds so I'm just not believing that its user hardware, its either users running other resource hog processes while trying to play which I'm not going to get into or they have some driver updates to make either way its not the game and its not an excuse to inconvenience 99% of the player base.

While reducing the time may cost them a few players upfront in the end anything that improves the game and reduces player frustration is going to result in a net gain in players which equates to a net gain in profit.

Leave it

Before I got my kickass PC and the game loaded on a SSD, I would often load MINUTES into the match
Then the timer came, and I'd still load 30+ seconds into the match

Now I'm in at 60 seconds, and I'm fine waiting.
It's necessary, and already cuts down to TEN seconds when everyone loads in.
That is fine

But why? why wait extra 10 seconds when everyone is loaded up? roll the intro, that takes like 6 seconds, too. It just wasted time.

Sure thing guys, and I too will wait, and am absolutely a team player when it comes down to it.
But that said, would you not like to see the connectivity further optimized?

What makes you think it's not just players on rather slow end PC's, maybe coupled with a not so good ISP

Using only SSD's is the reason why I'm usually one of the first to load into the actual match

Not seeing how MWO is an issue at all at these things, and I may have never gotten a single disconnect that I wasn't able to trace to a router needing a reboot or something
Now the connecting endlessly got on my nerves, but PGI got that reduced enough

Hell I'm sure there are still bountys from AT&T posted for the vandals cutting fiber lines
Not everything is MWO's fault

I've seen people actually taking ~70seconds to load into a match
While I'm here in Germany and can be one of the first to load on all servers, not just the European one

I rather thinks it's outdated rigs taking too long
There's more important things that need optimization

I've seen players whining and raging over losing out on 500 MC on an event when PGI tested the LFG feature
500 MC is only a handful of dollar
And I choose the island item

It's free to play, you end up with gamers trying to run this game on laptops and old rigs that are 10 years old
Some people like that even come on the forum asking how to make it run better

Why you think we actually have dx9/dx11, and not moved on to dx12?
Next engine update would drop dx9 support.
PGI didn't want to loose those customers.
How old are graphics cards that can do dx9 only?

Sorry to disappoint you but I don't drink. Any how you appear to only be interested in trolling and not actually discussing the topic. No conspiracy theory was implied, I was only suggesting to see if there is a pattern i.e. are they new, how often do they play, maybe they all come from the same area if shown on their profile.

Ah well, I think we must be talking at cross purposes then.

Yeah, I'd like that. There's rarely more than 1 or 2 people who are still connecting after 30 seconds. Can't be more than 10% of the time where there's 3+ people still connecting. And of the times that those 1 or 2 people are still trying to connect due to slow computers or whatever else, they're quite often gone for longer than 5 minutes anyway.

If you consider the fact that 20+ out of 24 players are waiting those 30 seconds extra for thousands of thousands of matches, it adds up to a lot of people waiting around with little benefit.

IIRC, the justification for the 60 seconds was originally that we could pick commanders and discuss tactics and stuff. Which is kind of hard to do, when you don't even know what side of the map you're deploying on. The commanders can't even plunk down some coordinates while we're waiting in the dropships. And what's even more funny is that we don't even know if we're attacking or defending in Escort mode.

"Ok, lads! When we get down there, I want everyone to protect the VIP at all costs. His life is vital to the war effort and you will die defending him if need be. Unless, of course... we have to kill him."
"Sir?"
"Well, we don't really know if he's on our side or their side yet. But for the time being, let's assume he's on our side."
"Riiight..."
"Actually, scratch that. Kill the f*cker."

Yes please lets increase the ready time, i like your idea OP.

As someone who is in Australia plays on all 3 servers, uses a USB wireless data stick (3G) & plays on a 7 year old PC, i need all the time i can get to load in.

DO you live in the basement, garage, attic or your old bedroom at a relative's house? Not accusing just mildly curious.

Is there a technical reason why the ready screen countdown has to be so long most people are connected within the first 20 seconds and it seems that if a player hasn't connected within the first 30 seconds they don't connect within the last 30 either and its kind of annoying over a span of many matches to be waiting on 1 random person whose not going to connect until after the match is fully underway, I'm talking like a minute or more into the match if at all.

If you insist on even more ppl standing at startup not moving while still connecting or loading the map while half of the team already rushes in and gets killed...well.

You really want to start the match before 2 people on your team have connected? You know most players in the game have no patience or common sense are just going to nascar 10 vs 12 anyway. Non connects are going to have lights eating them up before they potentially make it in game. Yeah, I'd rather just give them a little extra time to connect. Once everyone is in the match timer drops to 10 seconds anyway.

The time it takes to start a friggin game is astronomical.

It literally takes forever.

Way, way, waaaaaaay too long.

The voting takes an eternity.

Then you wait 10 eternities even though everybody is rdy to play.

You wait forever for the one person that simply wont connect and wont have connected till the game starts anyway.

So you wait for nothing.

Dropship animations is good and all but that takes even more seconds till you finally play.

All in all the time from launch to play is just too long.

I would like to point out that that the top player this season has played over 1100 matches.
I personally have played 434.

The people that seem to take issue with this post:

Shuri Tuski - 134 matches
Prosperity Park - 59 matches
Appogee - 120 matches
El Bandito - 25 matches

I'm already starting to see a pattern here not sure what it means yet.

i wouldnt look to far into, discrediting others based on matches played this season,
many have a tenyear & wisdom disusing problems here on the forums, many of these topics have come and gone,
problems with having a lower wait time(30 down from 60), as such have also been discuses again and again,
(such as what if it is changed to 30sec and you have 3DCs the first 20seconds of the match)
(a fast light could core all 3 out in that time, then your down 3 mechs)

not everyone has a computer or connection that allow for instant connectivity,
their are also many other thing to consider, such as ping rates and Fiber lines,
-
also when all players have connected the wait Timer automatically defaults to 10seconds,

i used to run on an 6-8year old laptop, (AMD integrated graphics Toshiba)
for me i used to get 1-3minute search times, and would jump into a match with 7-12 seconds to spare,
now that im on my new computer(MSI I7 Nvidia) i load in often with 40 seconds to spare,
-
i would rather wait that time then again be put in a situation where Lights Far DCs at start,

I don't think they will change this but a bug they could look to fix is that when the last played finally connect, the counter no matter current value will go to 10. So fine when you gro from 50 to 10 but less funny when only 2 seconds left then last one connect and counter goes back to 10!

I know it's only 8 more seconds but it's 8 more second wasted in our lives! Posted Image

I was also pissed at the 3 videos we cannot skip when we start the game, ok yes we can skip by pressing backspace until the password field show up but I got tired and now let the game run all the time, even when computer go sleep, then I just need to enter pasword immediatly.

I just think they flow of the game could be a little quicker, there is just a lot of idle time waiting to play.
