I am starting this thread because the MC2 thread can be a bit confusing for anyone following the two different games.

To get to playing MechCommander, do the following:

1. Download MCG http://www.megaupload.com/?d=zcoyc45v

2. Create a folder on your Desktop or C:\ Drive and name it MechCommander

3. Open up the download .zip file and extract ALL contents to your newly created MechCommander folder.

4. Locate the MCX.exe in the MechCommander folder, right click it and create shortcut.

5. Drag shortcut to desktop or quick launch bar.

Also, If you are on Windows Vista or Windows 7, you do not need to actually "Install" MCG. "Why?" I don't know, but it works perfectly fine with the method I posted above. You MAY have to right click the .exe and set to Run as Administrator depending on your UAC setting.

I would also recommend, matter of fact go to http://www.daemon-to...products/dtLite and download the free lite version. And mount the MCG.iso then burn to CD or DVD for safe keeping :) You must have the image mounted to play the game OR burned to CD / DVD.

I am also developing a league for MechCommander 1 / Gold as we speak.

So if anyone interested in helping feel free to go to http://www.defiantz.net. The game will not be hosted there but once I put the league site up I'll throw the link out there. The league will offer on the fly matches or scheduled matches, and Planetary will be ran more like the Cobra League PL in which Khans / Generals will make their moves once or twice a week, fight the battles, report the matches and will be updated accordingly.

Okay, I downloaded MechCommander Gold from the link provided above in the OP's post. It's an .iso file called "mcg". I have downloaded and installed DAEMON Tools Lite. I open DAEMON, locate the mcg.iso file on my system, and add it to the Image Catalog. I select "mcg.iso" in the Image Catalog, and then click the "Mount" button. It adds an identical item under Recently Used Images.

At the bottom of the program window, I double-click the only icon given, labelled: [DT - 0] (G:) MCG

This brings up MCG (G:) and shows all the files for the game.

If I double-click the icon named MCX (which I believe is the .exe) the game will start, the opening cnematic will run, and the first briefing for the Original Campaign will play, but when I click "Begin Mission", the game crashes and gives me a chain of ASSERT error messages.

Also, if I click on the Purchasing or 'Mech Lab buttons in the game interface, I lose all further interaction with the interface, and have to make a concerted effort to get the game to close.

TL;DR it's not working for me.

easiest way to make it run, especially with win 7: use the auto build in Virtual PC software.
All you need is a old windows copy.

myself is running a win 95 PC on my Vista 32bit system.
Makes me able to play even the oldest stuff by emulating win 95

i have had several format issues running VMs on some OSs like linux and unix and assosiated programs dont like it when you use VMs with out using wine some times you have to go into the coding files and cut or add stuff some times i can be trial and error but never the less dedication pays off for the most part if you got a decent VM and a large har drive it works just fine

I got it to run. All I did was set the compatibility mode to Windows 95--now it runs flawlessly.

It's so old...IT'S BEAUTIFUL.

Thanks for all the assistance helping me get it running!

After copying the files, I right click on the MCX.EXE and went to Properties then select the Compatibility tab.

I selected the Run this compatibility mode as: Windows 98/ME
Then I selected the Run in 256 Colors
And selected the Run as Admin cause I like to.

Works for me and my x64bit windows 7
