Folks,

I formally demand we stop calling useless players "potatoes", potatoes are actually useful, tasty, nutritious (based on a BBC documentary).

Here's some examples of how a potato can be useful:
http://mentalfloss.c...o-with-a-potato

I am opening this thread to discuss a new name for this league of player.

This comes from a match yesterday where I had a nubbsticle in a hunchback IIC decide to ram me up the *** so I couldn't retreat and forced me to tank for nothing. Then the bright minded muppet finally charges past in front of me and I have to pull back an alpha shot just cause he wanted to see who I was shooting at. He then worked out he bit off more than he can chew and finally started using the jumpjets to hide back into the shadows.

Almost each match I seem to find people who think they can hang onto my mech for cover, then ditch me when I actually might need em.

Potatoes are highly nutritious. So are player potatoes, just for the enemy team.

Potatoes saved Mark Watney on Mars.
Potatoes are great... Unless they roll their salad fingers over the keyboard and try to shoot stuff.

I find it disgusting how people with this elitist attitude talk down on people who are not on their skill level.

It is insulting and really bad sportsmanship. It is the same mindset that leads people in school bullying and mobbing other kids because they can't run as fast as them or whatever.

there is a difference between being a new player and being a potato imo.

it's less about skill and more about basic common sense (which apparently is pretty uncommon these days and not to be expected).

it's not exactly rocket science to know not to tail gate a friendly mech who's facing down a hail of fire.

it's not rocket science either to know not to run between firing lines when friendly fire is always on, unless you're willing to take that risk (to be honest, i do it once in a while, but i'll always notify friendlies over voice comms if i'm about to do it).

other decisions like not standing in the open 600m away from the nearest piece of cover isn't difficult to arrive at either.

or deciding to solo cap the furthest point in conquest while in an assault.

stuff like that are potato behavior. and skill/experience has nothing to do with it.

i'll use your school sports example - if your new soccer teammate starts digging a hole in the mud with a stick right in the middle of the match and refuses to listen to repeated instructions to drop the damn stick and start playing some ball, i don't think its unfair for his teammates to start calling that guy names. unless he actually, literally has down's syndrome or something.

and i doubt 99.9% the potato players in mwo literally have down's. which makes the potato moniker justified.

if you play like a potato and act like a potato, then get comfortable being called a potato.

fair's fair.

Maybe I'm just fed up with people making fun about other people because they can't aim for sh!t.

I know there are people in MWO who play with joysticks or who only pilot stock mechs. I know that is borderline ******** in this game and as useful as playing with a fishing controller. I know there are people here who are 50+ and still play this game to their abilities.

Some are good players, some are bad players, some are new players. But I see a trend that anyone who is not getting 200 damage or whatever is called potato and is the sole reason that the leet playerz lost. I just don't like this attitude I guess. It is kinda toxic to see this and someday we'll wonder whya no one wants to play with us anymore.

Folks,

I formally demand we stop calling useless players "nubbsticles" (obviously a play on words with 'popsicles') , popsicles are actually useful, tasty, refreshing treats during hot weather. (based on an OLA commercial).

You need to elaborate on which bit was "elitist" talk. I am anti-bullying and I certainly not elitist. I raised a post about people blocking and using as shields but this seems to strike a cord with you.

Ramming someone mech until they finally give way is kind of a weird thing for any normal person to do. I wouldn't do this in any game, it's got nothing to do with gaming experience. It's just common sense. Seeing this in T1 is alarming, it shouldn't be happening. I can't imagine anyone in any tier doing this kind of behavior.

Over the past few months I am seeing more selfish play and there must be a reason for it (people hugging an enemy last minute, while you've been working him for ages). Ignoring all match objectives at all costs, just to farm. Refusing to be part of a push (for no apparent reason) then sweeping in.

Really.

If PGI had even the faintest ability to keep people separated by ability, we wouldn't have this problem. There is absolutely NO REASON for a new player to ever be on the same team as a Tier 1, ever. They should be able to learn at their own pace and gradually enter into other "tiers" of play.

Nope, not PGI's philosophy. PGI believes that the better you are, the harder you must carry. When you're looking at an uneven playing field like that, you better expect the guys that are doing the carrying to tell the potatoes that they're potatoes.

Potatoes are people who are forcefully resisting to adapt and continue whatever sh1t they are doing and ruining everybody else experience. I dont have anything against new players having trouble, I trained enough myself and introduced them to the game. But willingly and on purpose not improving oneself is the least sportsmanship I can image.
If you dont want to improve why bother playing? After all playing is about learning and improving.
That's half of human kinds evolvement. Playing around with stuff and learing how it works.
If you start small and are willing to improve be my guest, I am not considering these people potatoes.
Anybody else get into the potato salad pot.
