Lord no, there's not a "good mech" in the entire pack. Sure, they can pull out some good games occasionally for the screenshots but hell, I've had 1000 point games in Vindicators.

They're not "terrible", they're just exceptionally average in a game where the only real use for average mechs is to get the better variants past basic.

Anything worse is DOA, anything better is P2W or Powercreep or both.

So PGI can't win no matter what?

Sure they can. There are a few quirks that would bring it up to "good enough." They could also shuffle some hard-points around, maybe add one here and drop one there. Future tech will help.

Most IS 65 tonners have +20-25% torso turn rate. The RGH is most definitely a pig in the handling department. Except the 1C, which gets 20% turn rate (feet).

Well, this is what I'd been looking at, and I'd been assuming that quirks were factored into this (even says "quirks"?). But what you say makes sense, as the speed listed here (as an example) seems fairly vanilla when compared to others...I just chose the -3N now because of the 45% quirk it has, and it def doesn't look like anything that extreme has been factored in. Weird.

...unless I was reading Smurfys wrong, which is ALSO completely possible...

Smurfy's doesn't actually take any quirks into consideration for that window (or for other calculations). The JM6-FB has a 25% yaw rate boost, but shows as having the same twist speed as an un-boosted RGH-1A if you set both of their engines the same.

Yeah, I think with new tech coming I will like some of these variants better. Running through some of the variants last night to get the x2 XP, I have come to the conclusion that I really don't like SRMs on a slow chassis. Kept hitting longer range maps all night, and could not always get set up for the SRM builds to really shine.

Just to finish the 1C's x2 XP last night so I could get to bed, I ended up stripping the '2D2' build, threw 3 AC5s on it and dropped. That worked just fine.

I do like the looks of the mech, but not really sure if any will make it into my "favorites". The Reaver will, but I have better ballistic mechs in the hanger that will more than likely not get replaced by the other Roughneck variants. When I have heavy ballistic builds, I do prefer pairing those with energy weapons and not more ammo dependent missile systems.

Every time i pilot the non hero mech, it really feels like there just aren't enough free tons for ammunition. How did they not forsee that this is a mech that must have more tons available for ammo? Underlying mech structure needs to be lighter to give us 3ish more free tons to work with.

This does some what feel like a mech in dire need of new tech.... which makes this purchase feel a bit worse than it should because that doesn't come for 2 more months, at the very least. Seems like they balanced it for new tech and didn't consider that it isn't all that great in its current form. I feel more like a medium... than a heavy. Posted Image My griffin runs the SRM's better than the missile heavy variant and the other two just don't seem to get it done. Maybe i just have to bite the XL bullet and be extra fragile? Even then i don't seem to get many extra tons because i end up wanting a bigger engine than this mech comes with stock which puts me back to needing 3 more tons....
