The only people I know who's preferred music player is iTunes are those that don't know any better.

Sure, the concept of making a 'MechWarrior named xxLeeeeeeeeeeeeeeroyJenkinSxx for the sole purpose of blaring Here I Go Again by Whitesnake while repeatedly solo-zerging the opposition makes me chuckle.

And the history of actually using loud music to demoralize enemies is valid, but would probably lead to an annoyingly high incidence of people thinking they were the first to think of blaring Flight of the Valkyries during a 'Mech charge.

But there's also the bandwidth that music transmission to other players would require. Bandwidth that's probably better off used for actual gameplay elements.

Plus there's the high likelyhood of griefing by forcing others to listen to such things as My Little Pony, Hamster Dance, Friday "by" Rebecca Black, That Trololololololololololololol song, or any number of other infinitely annoying offerings.

You're such a hipster. :)

What in God's great name about that post makes me a hipster?

Honestly, when I build my to-scale cockpit I'm planning on just putting in an MP3 player that runs completely independent of the PC that MWO is running on. That way I can quickly and accurately manipulate it without breaking my immersion (alt-tab, keyboard controls that sometimes don't work, etc). It'll be glorious.

So no. I don't want the dev team to waste their time putting in an mp3 player when they should be working on an awesome Mechwarrior game.

Dumbest suggestion ever. I'll bet my second-best pair of socks that the O.P. and his like are the sort who blast their "music" at full volume in their automobile with their windows open and the bass cranked up, so that everyone else has to suffer.

Having to hear other players's voices and/or music with no option to turn it off = I do not play or support this game. And everyone who thinks that I should be forced to hear it while playing can die in a fire.

What if they gave you the option of an 'ignore' button on certain players and/or the option to not hear others music? I can see adding this and lots of other things so long as folks that don't want that type of thing have the ability to toggle it on or off as they like.

The whole 'forcing' idea is a thing of the past since code can be implemented easier to allow you to set your settings easier in online gaming as a whole. A good UI and some good settings could make this game great for those that like the loudspeakers just as it could make it for you who could turn them off.

I must have missed the part where other players could hear your music.... I don't want that either (mute or no mute). Personal MP3 player only audible from inside your own 'Mech: Sure! Loud-speakers blasting your music to others: Hell no!

I don't really think an mp3 is needed. Sure, it would be a nice little feature to have, but it wouldn't make a big deal if it wasn't included. Like other people have said before, just listen to your music through speakers, a music player, or simply listen to the in-game music.

Of course you need a good sound system on a mech, course the damn good speakers would be on the outside so your enemy could hear Highway To Hell as your beating them down.

make it a module!!! XD

Micspam is just another reason why I'm adamant about there being either host-initiated kick/banning and/or player-voted kick/banning.

Micspam requires a mature audience to not be abused, and that's just exceedingly rare to find in today's gamer. Play music so that only YOU can hear it; that's fine by me. I've had one too many games ruined by someone who thought they were appreciated, original and creative by blasting annoying music or screeching sounds constantly through a game.

i dont plan on using ingame audio anyways...
Vent or TS for the win....

few things:
  • In game MP3 functions: Saves me the hassle of using winamp in the background, so i can agree with it as long as it doesn't take away from the devs time making the game FUN(eg they buy a sound module with MP3 Support).
  • Spamming music over local area sound/radio: Oh yes, motivation to kill xXxmrsSparklesxXx. for looping MLP. This is a known strategy, sonic warfare.
  • Phelan Wolf Cannon:During the bloodname trials in BoK:LD, Phelan looped his external mics and external speakers to cause a feedback loop, shattering glass for a good city block. Noted in cannon he could shut off his NH's speakers so the sound didn't deafen him. (IRL, mute function pls)

I'm gonna poke my head in here for a second and comment on this one cause well, I have an opinion too! (shocking, I know).

I think broadcasting music over an open channel that other players can hear is simply a no no. Regardless of whatever strategic value this action might have in the real world it is annoying and this is NOT a real theater of operations requiring sonic warfare / psychological warfare.

If I want to listen to some kid screaming along to his country music songs I'll load up Forza IV on my Xbox and play there.

Also, Jack, Multi-Quote is your friend!! Learn it, love it, live it!

Grimm what do you think about a incorporated MP3 player in the game though? One that only you can hear but can also upload music to?

If you want music then why not just have a media player integrated into the game that can run music from a local store on your machine that is defined in your settings. No bandwidth requirements and it doesn't affect your immersion. Even add a feature where the music volume is cut down when lance mates speak.

uploading them? that's a waste of storage and resources not to mention would have the possibility of becoming a nightmare for everyone if the RIAA decided to look into it. I am sure they could find some infringement and then demand records of all users who upload their music and then audit those users...

I'll just stick with my music being played locally on my PC.

It would be quite cool to have music player integrated into your cockpit, even more so if you wouldnt be able to stream music to other players, it would made chore of muting inevitable moronic elements much less common.

If they wont abbandon in-game music, or sounds (and wont allow others to hear it), then you can have your MP3. If not, however, then I am fully against something like that.

Shouldn't be too much of a prob, GTA Vice city had a folder to pop your mp3 shortcuts, as long as it's client side only. I really don't want to listen to other peoples taste in tunes while I'm meant to be fighting. That's what nightclubs are for :)

It's all well and good till the problems come up.

Bandwidth
Griefing
Who wants to hear YOUR music, I want to listen to my own.
copyright infringement
listening to people rant (Hacking, Cheating, etc, basically listening to losers complain about losing)

Sure, Ride of the Valkyries might be fun.,..a couple times.

The simple answer to this is possibly have an MP3 player inside the mech that doesn't upload or stream audio, but lets you play them for yourself with the environment affecting it. There's no difference for the person playing it from other people hearing it or not, but it cuts out all the BS from people that don't know common ettiquette during gameplay.

I'm sure if an inmech MP3 player is made, it will be bought by quite a few players, I don't want to hear their stuff however, and I'm perfectly happy with playing a separate MP3 player behind the game for myself.

I understand TS/Vent, but I didn't get a $100 sound card to hear my friends voices. I wanna hear the gorgeous sound effects of a modern MW game.

Well, of course if I start playing for a serious house and stuff I'll make some sacrifices, but I just mean in general.
