Wolfhound-2
http://mwo.smurfy-ne...c6f938e6ca04a04

This mech can pack a punch and it can go almost 150 kph with speed tweak and overall is a really great mech. I have had some of my best matches with it.

Wolfhound-1
http://mwo.smurfy-ne...aa5674c43ce7c71

This mech goes 156.7 kph with speed tweak and is more of a scouting mech than a brawler.

It doesn't actually matter what a mech does with skills since new players don't get to unlock skills on trial mechs.

The Wolfhound, used specifically for hunting Timber's and Dire's.

Still use this today, it runs even better in packs.

Actually my best Wolfhounds used STD engines. Few expect a tanky Light today.
Either the WLF-1A or WLF-2 will do, same build just lasers in different spots, right now the -2 due to Heat Gen quirks but that changes with the skill tree.

The WLF-2

4 ML (torso)
2 MPL (arm)

XL 270
Max armor
10 internal DHS, 4 external

Intended to give the new player a chance to experience several learning opportunities: the difference between arm mounted and torso mounted weapons, the differences between pulse lasers and standard lasers, and how to handle a 'mech moving at a decent clip (while hopefully not being overwhelming while they learn to maneuver at speed).

It features forgiving heat management and only two distinct weapons groups with minor behavioral differences, to ease the adjustment of the new player into the game.

WLF-1B - WLF-1B

Double AMS with 5 ML and 295xl engine.

Something decent for a new player that might not be sure what to do and stick with the other mechs. The AMS should make him useful even if he just derps behind a rock for a bit.

And it's this exact moment when builds start to repeat themselves because while this chassis is fun, it's not that versatile. And I mean XL builds as it is most logical build for a light with basically no armor and quite a few hardpoints.
I'll leave my ol' WLF-2 Mongrel here. I'm sure similar build was posted already, haven't checked all of them.

If these new trial mechs aren't going to come out until after the 3060 tech update, should we consider a build with IS ERM-lasers? Of course, I can't show you it in Smurfy. Think about a WLF-1A with 2xERM-lasers in each side torso, 1 in the right arm & 1 in the centre torso, big XL engine & many double heat sinks. Like a baby Nova-P.

Haven't seen this one, it works super-well for me and I tend to just wreck with it. 2ERLL with mediums as backup. Pokes super well and runs cold thanks to the WLF-2 perks. Great for squirrelling, or for hunting down other lights. WLF-2

WLF-1B

A Wolfhound for the discerning 'mechwarrior. 1 LPL, 3ML, XL295, 12 DHS. Fast, cool, and lethal.

2 AMS, 4MPL, XL-295 fast, sufficient firepower, and dual AMS makes it Lurm-safer. and such more forgiving to new players running out into the open too far. The current structure quirks make it quite tanky (with the new skill-tree coming up and the removal of all quirks, that might change)

This is my Wolfhound Champion variant...inspired Wolfhound WLF-3S in the Classic Battletech tabletop game.

Here's my suggestion: WLF-1B Proposed Trial Mech

Why?
  • Easy to use. 1 LPL, 4 ML. Two weapon groups, each with similar recharge and burn time. 31 damage alpha seems quite reasonable and is only 5 less than the hotter, shorter range 6 MPL meta build.
  • Durable. Heavily armored for the weight, with a some points shaved off the non-weapon arm. IS XL engine remains a liability, but less so for a Light than other weight classes.
  • Reasonably Fast. 270 XL provides 125 kph base speed. As a Trail it can't be speed tweaked (and given that mastery is changing, it's a moot point anyway).
  • More options if you buy. Being all energy, the Wolfhound's suffers from being very limited in terms of what you can do with it. You want some lasers? Or do you more different lasers? Maybe a PPC you aren't quirked to use effectively? With the 1B at least offers the double AMS option should you choose to buy it.

Keep in mind these will mostly be used by new playersl!

Thank you, Tina! Remember people, this is a Trial mech. Trial mechs should, as far as I'm concerned, be new player friendly. I don't feel the recent Champion/Trial mech selections have been good introductions because they are geared toward the play styles of more experienced players.

Also worth considering is that these will eventually be sold for MC or as part of a bundle, so they should be worth purchasing.

Finally, DO NOT get hung up on the quirks. That whole system is going to be changing very soon, so it really doesn't matter what they have right now.

Thanks for your consideration.

Here's my suggestion for a WLF-1(C) Build.
http://mwo.smurfy-ne...0f1fdc8bea7da9d

I also picked the variant with the fastest engine. Since the mech is very speedy, it does not need to have long range weapons. Instead, it is now equipped with 5 SPLas to go in quickly for a small, but repeated punch. It was upgraded to DHS, XL engine and Ferrofibrous, using all latest available technology. AMS was added for survivability. It has almost full armor rating, being only slightly reduced in the cockpit (At the same time, AMS ammo was added to the cockpit supporting a new, experimental, long range ejection seat). This is a clearly a build for headstrong pilots.

P.S. Instead of the SPLas in the arm, it could alternatively be using a single MPLas, which would only require to remove one DHS. This would make it consistent with the remaining variants, but with a "pulse". For ease of use with new pilots, I find it more ergonomic with one weapon system only.

WLF-1
http://mwo.smurfy-ne...53f3a00f3037fbd

MAXIMUM POWER (I wanted one with the biggest engine I could find.)

Edit: Also, medium lasers are more friendly to new players for the combination of range and damage. I do recommend 2 weapon groups though, 1 for the arm laser and the rest for the torso lasers.

Alternative: http://mwo.smurfy-ne...6511df3700a612a
slightly smaller engine, hotter, but the large laser provides some ranged hitting power.
