When RNGeesus heeded my call, and recycled just as two mechs ran in front of each other (in opposite directions) whilst I launched my final LOLpha

I was hoping you would post this. Epic.

Picture a chaotic brawl in old-timey film grain in the pre-Clan days, in the dockyard on River City. Tinny music too if that's your style. I was running around in a Hunchie 4G ducking between the low buildings, a little too far forward, and had tangled with the enemy lights, which included a couple Firestarters. One of them was a little brazen and stayed in my front arc long enough to take a couple hits from my AC-20 and get raked by my trio of lasers, putting his RT into structure before deciding to break off.

The rest of his team was converging in and elements of mine had moved up with the little tangle escalating into a full brawl in the buildings. In a break in the action I noticed a friendly light had found that enemy Firestarter a couple rows over. I couldn't get an angle on it, but man, did I ever hate Firestarters. I noticed that it stopped dogfighting and was breaking off in a dead run right down the line of buildings, friendly on its heels. I was on the wrong side, but it had to pass me to get back to friendly cover. I had to do something, for spite's sake.

I turned my crosshair to the narrow space between two buildings and watched the radar, hoping that friendly light would keep it in sight so I could lead it. Seconds later the red triangle appeared on my screen behind the building to my left, crossing 90 degrees to my line of sight. I pulled the trigger before I could see a target flash past the gap, my 220mm melon-chucker lobbing a lazy round that seemed like it'd have to get out in front and wait.

The only thing I saw between the buildings was a blur. In the instant of the shot I couldn't even tell if I'd hit it, but a cheery message on the edge of my screen confirmed the best of all outcomes. It crossed side-on to me, my slug striking it in the only place it couldn't take the hit, that damaged right torso, and blowing out the XL engine. It collapsed earthward out of my line of sight.

My monocle popped and I was quite rightly satisfied.

That one time I fired some LRMs at a guy I couldn't even see and killed him. Posted Image
