Did anyone mention the black knight for davion as well?

Uh... the Black Knight is a Star League/ComStar mech. Outside of those factions, it's fairly rare, but spread out. Eventually, Davion manages to get a Black Knight factory online, but it never becomes 'their' mech.

How much would you be willing to pay for to see an Anime Mad Cat MK II?

I'm pretty sure an anime Mad Cat MK II would make me have a heart attack.

Clan Nova Cat primarily used Jenner IIC, Shadow Cats, Huntsmen, Nova Cats, Super Nova, and Mad Cat Mk II to an extreme degree. Surprisingly, the Huntsman was by far the most widely used "Nova Cat" mech, to the point where it is generally considered the stereotypical Nova Cat mech. Even somehow above the Nova Cat omnimech.

I think a lot of that has to do with the fact that the Nova Cat was a later design compared to the Huntsman and the fact that they had to retool/upgrade a number of factories after the move into the IS.

Sadly its the non-missile boat variant of the Viking that is by far my favorite. The VKG-2G to be exact, also if memory serves correctly the FRR also made fairly heavy use of the Dragon.

Also in refrence to my previous comment, the clans are hard to gauge due to how they do 'business'. A lot of designs are dispersed to various clans thanks to batchalls over production runs, and those that are taken as Isorla in combat. An example of this being the Jade Falcons heavily using the Hellbringer and Kit Fox even though the Kit Fox was originally designed and manufactured by the Cloud Cobras, while the Hellbringer was designed and manufactured by Hell's Horses.

Well, there is the obvious, like the Ebon Jag for the Smoker Kittys, the Tiburon for Clan Sea Fox, the Timby for Wolf, ect.

I know that Dragons are *the* iconic Kurita mech, the Victor is most associated with Davion, the Zeus with Steiner, the Vindicator for Liao, and the Awesome for Marik.

Aren't Mad Cats the big Clan Wolf mech? The Kodiak is supposedly the totem mech for Ghost Bear, though they developed the Gladiator as well and in lore it's better. Jade Falcon was into Thors, as I recall. I haven't a clue about the Clans, really.

While those two mechs get a lot of novel love, I don't think they're the 'poster' mechs of the 3060s for those factions. Davion in particular, which actually went out of their way to release new versions of old faction mechs, like the Enforcer III and Jagermech III, to be the 'poster mechs' of the age.

I think it is totally fair to associate Templar with Davion, and Fafnir with Steiner in the 60ies, even if neither of them can claim to be sole signature Mech.

It's true, the novels love to put Davion characters in a Templar cockpit, from the legendary Ardan Sortek (the first major Davion character we meet in the novels) to Julian Davion ("current" First Prince). But the Templar was indeed intended to be the new flagship assault Mech of the AFFS. Of course, the Jihad put those plans back several decades and it would be the Templar III which became that flagship Mech.

Regarding the Fafnir... This one was Defiance's new flagship and intended to be the prime assault of the LAAF. The biggest 3060ies contender was the Hauptmann, which was chosen to represent the new LAAF and its showcase units, the Alliance Jäger. I'd say both were extremely prestigious in the 60ies. The Fafnir in particular replaced time-honoured Lyran designs like the Zeus.
Don't underestimate the power of symbols. Peter Steiner-Davion could have had every Mech we wanted. But he chose the Fafnir when he claimed the throne, even though they were not easy to get for the Allies. Since he controlled Coventry, the Hauptmann would have been no problem. Actually, even a Clan OmniMech probably would have been easier to get than the Fafnir, given that the Wolves supported him.

Recently re-read the Legend of the Jade Phoenix trilogy.

For Clan Jade Falcon Summoners are the most commonly used, closely followed by Hellbringers.
Executioner is the most mentioned assault mech I recall, while the Warhawk is mentioned being used as a scouting mech!

Timber Wolf and Mad Dog also sees a lot lot of use by CJF.

Is that really so surprising? Steiner uses the Atlas and Zeus in their scout lances all the time. Posted Image

Clan Wolf also makes extensive use of the Ice Ferret. I love the story behind the mechs name. It's orginally built by Clan Ice Hellion to hunt Timber wolves and is unsurprisingly named the Wolf Hunter. Clan Wolf after awhile takes over the factory that makes them and renames the mech after the Hellions natural predator as a big F U to clan likes to go fast..

Isn't the Blackjack something of a signature for both Davion and Liao? Like, the Capellans hate them, but they use them because they have a lot of them. The Davions used to dislike them, but they had a great match once and have been all over it ever since.

The BJ is mainly a Davion Mech - but a sturdy design some might found their way in the Capellan army.
The signature 45ton Cappi is the Vindicator as with most designs that are used often the chances are good that they spread through the sphere.

Considering the value of a Mech it is unlikely that a salvaged mech would be scrapped and a new Mech ordered by supply - instead they would repair it as good as possible and keep it in the fight - even when they need to maintain it for a month after a hour of combat.

I just thought of something stupid and super off-topic because of you mentioning that. Gonna say it anyways.

I'm actually really surprised there isn't a faction in Battletech, probably a religious one, that despises mechs as being the height of mankind's egotism, trying to recreate their own image in giant war machines. I would have highly preferred seeing a faction like that trying to purge the galaxy of mechs over what we got with the wobbies.
