What are the first things you are planning on trying/doing with the tree, though? What do you look forward to most? What are your biggest concerns? Discuss!
The first thing I will be doing is tinkering with armor/structure bonuses for mechs
I look forward to seeing the new megacheese build akin to the 7 LPL banshees that ran around dishing out doom in the last PTS
My biggest concern is that speed tweak might be locked behind a lot of "fluff" and that lights will have to invest too heavily in not so useful skills just to get their speed up, since that is one of their biggest saving factors both offensively and defensively

Clan mechs kind of work becuase of the better tech base, but the IS use quirks to catch up.

I'm done with getting emotionally involved with this crap, it's really not worth it

Unless I've misunderstood how they plan to implement the skill tree.

How badly PGI intends to gut possibilities for clan mechs, will remain to be seen.

One way for it to be that broken is if it's equal skill trees for all mechs + blanket quirk removal, which will throw faction balance out of the window beyond the window it's already been thrown out of.
If the skill tree is equal to both factions they need to keep all the quirks and add some more (since IS is currently way below Clan), if it's unequal skill tree between the factions and that's supposed to create balance then it's a **** way to balance because that leaves unskilled IS mechs inferior to unskilled clan mechs, which isn't ok.
I also hope I'm completely wrong and the new skill tree is great and makes IS vs Clan tech balanced without quirks, PGI please make me wrong in all my fears.

Tech balance shouldn't depend on a progression based system. The ideal here is for IS and Clan to be balanced without quirks AND a skill tree.

I'm concerned about the idea of Clan mechs with armor and structure. Granted they may have to lose out on performance, heat efficiency, or other. The top tier Clan mechs have a lot of other things going for them anyway.
Also by how much of the quirks are getting baked into the base performance of the mech. Seems to me like the easier thing would be to give under performing mechs extra points to start with that don't count toward the total. Thereby letting the player quirk their mech. Which is kind what the whole skill tree is anyway.
