They do give me a good chuckle at work, specially when peeps take them seriously.

My turn.

Hey Blood Wolf, PGI maps are all bad and they will never fix them because they don't care.

Are you trying to say that a PTS less than 2 weeks before release is the right way to go for this type of thing?

I'm glad! People take them too seriously sometimes, but I guess they always will, and it is part of the fun.

well I live in the real world, where things can happen. So knowing that the skill tree announcements are more about ETA, rather than anything precise. I would care more about it being put into PTS for a good amount of time before it's released.

Now somebody mentioned that they could just patch and fix after release, but it's going to take less time and resources to get it on the right path via PTS.

As long as people do their due diligence and give feedback that has been thoroughly tested and verified.

Judging by the last few PTS sessions we had? It was a small group of players giving mostly negative feedback but almost no constructive feedback and what constructive feedback they DID give was either ridiculed by others of that group or ignored by PGI.

As opposed to the fake world, where things can't happen? Sorry, couldn't resist.

Well, Russ has responded on twitter that the skill tree is still looking good for february, and PGI has stated in the past that the patch is set 2 weeks prior to the patch day to test for bugs and such, so one can deduce that we are getting the PTS this week, and the skill tree will drop as planned on patch day.

I guess if it turns out to be a dumpster fire on the PTS then it might get delayed.

not at all, I was always trying to keep the scientific approaches to the PTS. There was plenty of Objective constructive feedback by myself and others. There was hardly any actual constructive feedback that didn't consist of fallacies. Which was unfortunate, but a lot of people where more interested in making theoretical post(with no evidence), rather than pointing out flaws and gains made by the system. You need to watch out for Bias, which does no good in the field of testing.

All in all that's said and done, but future PTS need to be as objective as possible, and actually accurately testing the mechanics for flaws.

This. I don't see how doing away with quirks will make anything better. If anything it will make some variants that are worse because of number, kind and location of hardpoints but brought up to par (or at least closer to it) by quirks totally useless.

I dunno... Personally, I'm ambivalent in regards to the details or lack of there of...

Why?

This forum is unable to separate hard facts from innuendo and speculation. Anything said is taken as Hoyle and extrapolated ten fold.

I'm more inclined to wait patiently versus jumping to conclusions and flailing wildly... Posted Image

We don't need to go any further than wait till you have evidence then make that judgement. If you can't see how, then you don't know the different factors that may come from this. It may be a take away of quirks, but its the addition of specific skills that you can apply to your mech for different bonuses.

Isn't Tuesday or Thursday the usual day for them to make statements/release things? So....the 7th or the 9th could still be a thing. Although the last they said was at the round table when they said it had changed a good bit from what was demonstrated in the trailer video for it. Maybe that is because they tested it some in house and it was junk so they are slightly behind schedule in an attempt to fix it before PTS....although it could just be because thats how they roll sometimes.

Yes, but you can apply it to any mech, thus my point of it making some variants even more obsolete than they are now stands. I personally think quirks are a very good thing because they give strengths to variants (most of the time) according to their lore version and what it does while still leaving them fully customizable without too much of a disadvantage if you don't like it.

They also force people, for example if they want to build a PPC boat and have the best PPC quirks, to use variants that have other distinct disadvantages like for example worse weapon placement than another mech/variant with less quirks. This imo is also a GOOD thing and giving people the ability to skill the mechs with the best weapon placements to have the best "quirks" for their boat is a BAD thing, because boating is bad enough as it is. There is really absolutely no need at all to make it even more viable.

And another point would be, that these skills apply to IS and clan mechs while atm it is mostly IS mechs who have (and NEED) quirks. Making clan mechs even better in relation to IS as they are now is totally uncalled for.

I'm both excited to see the skill system and supremely annoyed at the lack of any further information. I mean I guess hopefully it's because we're getting it sometime this week. But even the date is secret.

I guess that is directed @ me.

But to be honest I don't get your point, maybe because I'm not a native speaker or maybe because I'm a disabled person.

Could you please explain your statement in a more easy way?

I opened up this thread to share my feelings on it and how I feel in comparison to other games I play. I really, really love Eu4. I'm terrible at it, but I like that the DEVs are communicating so much with the community. Sharing ideas, playing 30 man multiplayer games commented by one of the best players.

You know with the new skill system. If IS is behind or a single mech is behind they could simply adjust the totatl max skill points for the mech and let it get extra "quirks"...(By this I mean skills. Unless adding/adjusting real quirks is specifically that desired for a specific mech.) It's a much simpler way to balance the game. then they can focus on the rest of it and put in what they want with less worry. AKA, put the balancing in the players hands....

I was going to say If IS needs to be balanced as a whole give all IS mechs an extra 25 points for 100 vs the 75 max now. But that might be too much depending on how the costs work out. Though you never know. Either way adjusting the total points is a really easy way as a player can simply add more points where he wants and can't complain if he picks a bad combo.

Extra "mods" could be nice for balance! People may play a lot better once they can see more also. Everyone having Seismic sensor may drastically improve gameplay.

As to the guy on the first page who said he can't figure why this change would be made. It's not complicated. Me and 95% percent of people are tired of buying 3 mechs to get very little(but badly needed) benefits to make our mechs work out the best they can. It also makes selling mechs simpler and probably more likely as buying one thing for less money is more likely than an overpriced pack. Let alone any benefits to simplifying the game development. Whatever their main reasons they are doing everyone a huge service. Not to mention they can custom quirk in a way more meaningful to the individual mechs while letting skills be proper customization. Should make the game go much smoother and make any subsequent changes a lot easier. This new system has got to be a hell of a lot simpler for development.

The only problems with balance after this are a lack of choices for the player. And the rest is on the players head. And, as I said above, they can technically change that by adding more max points or add more skill options as needed. Maybe they will add a custom column at some point for any mechs needing custom choices. It will only work for certain mech variants, or mechs, or classes of mech, etc. Much easier to add. And people can pick as they want. They could even add multiple points systems or anything they want to balance it. Mechs could one day have varied choices depending on the mech which could be nice. It would be the same as having a lot of equipment laying around but with minimal programming.

With those custom columns they could make a set of stuff everyone can choose from but they require different points. Purple, yellow, blue, etc. But those points only buy certain ones or from certain columns. And if needed they can blot out a specific choice from a mech. This means they have to do minimal maintenance by changing tallies of point or other small changes. Then they can make very lore specific or other needed customization much more easily.

Basically, skill is another form of equipment. But more internal systems/equipment than weapons etc. IE, were getting more stuff more easily in the future potentially.
