The laptop I'm using now is an archaic compaq presario cq57 with:
win ten pro 64x
8gig system ram
and a pos amd E-300 apu 1.3 ghz
I can get the game to run as far as mech lab and training grounds. I've avoided the academy and and "live" matches. The few times I did I got motion sickness from just the cockpit's up and down animation as well as I was pin balling off every thing such as walls, team mates, objects and terrain. Forget fighting anything but that cockpit animation. Name the weapon and I used it to no effect and killed by the first enemy light or high alpha with 0 score across the board.
I just use it to mess in mech lab and tg to try weapon combinations.

I see what you did there ...

But in all honesty its just poor opimization. My good ole poatoePC runs Crysis 1 and 2 on nearly max settings with no issues. Bad thing is if inverse kinematics patch goes live anywhere in the near future you can expect the game to become even more CPU-heavy.

I uninstalled Norton entirely awhile back after it kept eating up 99% CPU use, wasn't worth keeping around with how it'd constantly get in the way, lag, cause problems, any eat up bandwidth with updates.

My old rig mirrors yours before the cat and a big 64oz cup of water took it out frying the mobo, video card and power supply. Since I'm very low income it's going to be a long time before I can get some thing to run mwo at 40fps. As for IK my old pc was build just to run mwo off the recommended specs when I first got into mwo and closed beta. It had no problems then with IK and I doubt it would have if/when they re-added it to the game.
Sadly mwo with its poor optimization will forever be a problem unless pgi uses mw5 as a back door into getting mwo slowly migrated to the newer engine. One that can be made to run the game far better using current and coming technology as it changes. I think only a retro build pc might run with minimal flaws in its current state would be how I'd have to build a *new* system for me in my case.
My old rig ran crysis 3 and skyrim on ultra just great. Between skyrim, mgs:the phantom pain,crysis3 and mwo I didn't do many games on my rig. Experimented with 2d animation and some 3d work after college with it. My old specs weren't great but for a mid level pc built at the time of 2012 it was pretty awesome for my uses.

For this game, definitely.
The CPU upgrade I made was the single biggest factor in performance.
I was getting 100+ frames after that, even with a low end graphics card (GTX 950).
The only reason I upgraded to the 1070 was because the resolution on my monitor put too much strain on the 950.
