*nods at people reply to his last posts, and to everything that has been said after... mainly as a "I see, ok, interesting, aaah ok" kind of a way of nodding*
Dihm + Otheres: I was thinking it probably was a bit of a fluff, and easier to keep track of and all that. And also that in many cases, in the BT IP, Mechs almost never go at it alone, it is almost always combined arms to some extent.
I have this weired mix of both being a compleat "regelryttare" (rules-rider, someone who always follow the rules to the letter) in some cases, and compleatly opposit at other times with not following the rules but rather tampering with them to the way I like them. Which is why I went all "It needs to be this way, because this is what it actually is said to mean!"... to almost instantly switching to "Fair enough, works for me".
I don't really fully belive in that whole thing with "a person born under this sign/year/etc is this way" etc. But when it comes to my self... I often feel like the sign of the Gemini is compleatly fitting for me. Because I often feel like there are two "me's" in me. Where in some certain things I compleatly swing between two compleatly opposit ways of possitions. Maybe swinging between them is not the right word to use... it's more that I feel both options are "right" or "wrong" or what ever. Maybe it's the fact that I am pretty good at looking at things from different angles, and looking at things through other peoples eyes so to say. Don't know.
Anyway... to other stuff. I do have some skills in graphical stuff. So as such I could maybe help with that.
My problem though is that even though I seem to have an natural ability with the artistic stuff (not music though it seems, mainly hand-crafter/made/created artistic stuff)... I seem to lack a full "imagination" ability. I can't tell you how many times during the last 15+ years where I for example have sat down and felt this... urge... to for example draw something. I can litteraly feel my fingers (and arms to) sort of tingle somehow... but when I sit down and pick up a pen or what ever, looking at the paper... nothing... I am compleatly blank as to what I actually want to draw. Often it just leads to me putting down the pen not having done anything at all, or I start to just draw doodles and symetrical symbols (I love symetry) and lines and what ever else. More so then not, the times I have actually created something has been the few times where I suddenly got imspired to create a certain thing, which was combined with having the "tingly create sensation"... or this suddenly imspiration created the "tingly create sensation". Unfortunatly this has not happend that many times over the years, and it usualy only lasts for X amount of time. I have numbers up on numbers of stuff I started but never finished.
Here below is my most recent example of when I got
majorly inspired (I do get some minor inspirations every now and then as well) and did something in photoshop (which actually was a continuation of having been inspired some several years befor which lead me to drawn the original pen drawing that I at this recent time scanned into my computer and then went at it in photoshop). Or actually... this is the "2.0" version of the original paining I did. This one happend like a year later when I finally became sick of the fact that I felt the original painting I did was to... blocky in the colour changes, not smooth enough, and the colouring was not compleatly right either (a bit to red at places, and not pale enough for a vampire, etc). So I reworked it and reworked it and reworked it until I finaly got a result I was actually really happy with.
I guess I should say though that this is my best work so far, none of my previous "work" comes close really. And as such to get this kind of results takes me a long time. In general I am very slow, and extreamly meticulous, when I draw and paint (probably my biggest downfall with drawing and painting... ruined a large numbers of stuff due to constantly tampering with them wanting them to be "perfect")... or do anything for that matter... which my posts in general should indicate.
Here is the
"1.0" version of the image above.
Here is the image of the
original drawing that I had drawn several years earlier. One of the few times where I delibratly drew it somewhat "not perfect"... and managed to stay away from tampering with it to much.
All these images are not the original size of the images though, the originals are double the size. But photobucket has a file size limit... plus I feel it's probably best if I keep the originals to my self, for the purpose of "proff" that I am the one who painted them. Not that I think I would ever really need to "defend my work" or anything, from people using it without my knowledge or claiming it's theirs or something... there are other stuff out there that is
much beter and proffessional and "life like" for anyone to do that to with my stuff.
My original inspiration for that drawing was Vampires, when I rewatched "Interview With The Vampire" some several years ago... I have actually liked Vampires much longer then I have Mech's, I saw "Bram Stokers: Dracula" (the 1992 movie) back in 93-94'ish which made me go "ooh... cool". And then I saw "Interview With The Vampire" (1994 movie) the first time in roughly 95. The first time I saw anything at all with MechWarrior was the "BattleTech: The Animated Series" that I saw in late 95 or early 96. And it was a year or two later that I found the connection between the cartoon and MW. And not untill very late 90's that I realizing that the BT figure game existed, and finally the MW PnP RPG one (which is probably the one I wanted to play the most, combined with a BT figures), but none of my RPG friends where really interested in it. Vampires are my favorit supernatural/unatural monsters/beings/creatures... atleast the iteration where they don't actually just becomes mindless/instinctual "monsters", but rather retain all that which is human... just enhancing it. In the stuff that I like a Vampires nails tend to change, grow thicker, and become more claw-like. So I held up my left hand, looked at it, started to make "claw-like" movements with it, to find what would look like the best angles for the fingers in the sence of the arm being lifted up and the fingers of the hand on it's way to curl out for an attack, started drawing it, and of course I added the "vampire nails" to it... I don't have nails like that... clearly...
On another note... I really liked what Skarr said... especialy the part about "Jägare" ("Hunter"). For a scout unit, quick moving, lightning strikes in and out and all that, "Hunter" seems more fitting then "Slayer". "Drakjägare" sounds like the people who try and find them, hunts them, really knows their behaviour and all that, and eventually possibly kill them. Granted, a "Drakdräpare" would probably also know the whole process... but name-wise it only really focus on the end part, not all the stuff that lead up to that part.
Maybe if the Merc unit was named "Drakdräpare", and each company in it had specific names based on their main work. So scout unit would be "Drakjägare"... and then something other "Drak*********" for the other types of units based on what they do. But, then of course this mer unit would be extreamly centered around just going at Kurita... and that might maybe be a bit to narrow.
As a final note, about the whole thing with what you said Dihm. About why the units where devided they are etc. Part of the reason why I really wondered about it, and what ever... is that gameplay wise with MW, I have never fully defined my role in it. I tend to play these games the way I at the time feel like playing them. I don't tend to stick to a defined role for a class... or stick with a class all together for that matter. With the example of the Hollander in MWLL I mentioned. That is clearly a mid-longranged to longranged mech, it's supposed to stay away from the enemy and sort of snipe at it. And I did do play that way... combined with rushing the enemy... running around it... sometimes standing still and you name it (parts of the reason I got close to enemies was due to easier to hit at times).
So when I look at the 3 current proposed company's, and their fluff parts and what not, I don't actually see one that I could actually fit into. Maybe it would technicly not matter gameplay wise really, that I could play a light mech in the brawler company and what not. But fluffwise I would not fit the molds (I think, I might be wrong)... and to me, fluff is very importent, I want the fluff to be just right.
I think I am a little bit too unpredictable gameplay wise with how I play at any given time in MW games. Especialy in the sence of being part of a unit like so many of you probably have with MW online gaming. Usualy you need to act a certin way, follow orders, teamwork and all that. And I can do all that... it's just that I am SO used to being a solo gamer, it probably more so an natural instinct to be a solo gamer. And as such my natural instinct is to do what at the moment feels right... which could mean taking my light mech right into the middle of 5 heavy and assaults mechs where I clearly am outgunned (multiple times over), especialy since it's almost impossible to outmanuver 5 other mechs at the same time, even if they are slow.

It's hard to break almost 20 years of natural (solo-centric) instincts you know.
