I think it's time for some real talk, in regard to this omnipod hoarding business model PGI has.

The standard linebacker mechs have terrible hardpoints. Full Stop.

Now, this isn't really a problem because it's an omni mech and can change its hardpoints....but it can't because PGI has decided that buying omnipods as an omnimech is bad. Because of this, you will not be able to purchase extra omnipods until the mech releases for cbills. So that means for probably 6 months after you purchase linebackers, you'll probably only be able to build maybe 2 passable mechs while waiting for the other omnipods to unlock.

Here's the thing, I want a Linebacker, I think it'll be cool. But how can I justify buying linebackers, when 75% of the 6 mechs I purchase will be worthless, and let's be clear they will be worthless without the ability to fit more light clan lasers.

Now, as I always say, I don't like to point out problems without being able to also offer a solution, and I just happen to have one.

I understand that the issue with the omnipods is PGI can't block people who haven't purches the reinforcements from buying these omnipods. I get it, your Programmer Fu is weak and you don't want to do actual work.

There is another option though:

If a player purchases the Linebacker Reinforcement pack, give them 6 copies of every omnipod along with the mechs.

This now gives you all the omnipods you should need for every other mech, while circumventing that nasty "we can't program our way out of a paper bag" element.

Problem solved, everyones happy, and more people might actually buy the Linebacker.

I would never buy one for dollars at this point, but I agree with this.

Also, I accidentally sold my loyalty Nova omnipods, and I couldn't buy them back for a while. That would have been sad, except they were crap anyway.

I was gonna buy one or at least thinking about it, then I read your post. Then I decided that my money is best spent some where else.

It's their way of inflicting overkill on a mech nearly guaranteed to be mediocre no matter what happens.

They'll probably also lock all of the quirks behind the 8/8 pod sets like the Viper and Night Gyr. The Night Gyr gets away with it because can build powerful loadouts for most pods, but unfortunately the Lamebacker won't share that ability.

Well you could work around it by removing the omni-pods you need if you have the Add-on variants, and use them on the other mechs. You can only use 1 mech at a time.

No a great solution I agree, but it is a solution.

I rarely see ideas, which make both sides happy. And this is the exact one, cause:
- players will have ability to use multiple copies of their reinforcement pods;
- PGI will have more players willing to buy reinforcements.

Don't even need a poll for this. It's obvious!

Huh, salty Sader might have a point. PGI would be throwing some extra cbills worth of omnipods in to the pack, but since cbills are the free currency, seems like all sides win.

I agree, not getting the only omnipods that matter in quantities that are reasonable, well that's why I've not bought this mechpack

I myself would like to buy the Linebacker, or any other new release omnimech, but can not bring myself to do so.

I do not like the way the omnipods are being handled. I own the basic Viper pack, but can not build them out the way I want until they are available for c-bills.

Until that time, I have stripped them and painted them black.

PGI. Please consider this.

This does make a lot of sense. I'm all for it, seeing as I dropped cash on the Huntsman. Who wouldn't want extra pods for a Mech purchase? Hell, this almost makes up for the lack of modules in the Bushwhacker pre-order. [I won't be touching that with a ten foot pole, as I feel the decals over modules was a huge mistake on their part for incentive purposes.]

*sigh*

So what are we lookig for here, fellas? A mech with uber weapons mounts, 700ft tall, and shoots lighting bolts are its arse?

Not every mech needs the cookie cutter check list. If I read the lore correctly, the Linebacker was not a front line attack mech but rather a fast movin' reserve mech built to plug the gaps left by destroyed mechs/lances (stars). So as such, we have a fast movin' heavy mech with less than typical punch. To me, I say kudos to PGI for adding a mech outside the norm. Having a fast moving and well armored large mech able to hit hard (still got those alphas, boys!), then fall back to the line or cover.

Heck, I bet some of the movers and shakers are going to make the Linebacker a staple in every drop like the cheeter mech.

Opinions are just that, but being so narrow minded in saying "the mech sucks because of its hard points" is rather shallow when there are other attributes that may as well make up for those hard points. Give it a chance. Lighten up Francis.

Linebacker basic pack, $15
Linebacker ultimate pack with the omni pods you really want, $70
Thinking that PGI will read and care, Priceless

It was designed by the Warden Wolves to replace the Timber Wolf because it was deemed "too slow". Didn't work out and the Crusader Wolves kept it in production due to a lack of equipment after the split. It's a mech that doesn't fill its intended role that nobody wants but has to use.
