So netflix put up $90M to make a sci-fi movie 'Bright' that looks suspiciously like something out of the Shadowrun universe.

Maybe a Mechwarrior series isn't too far fetched. Everyone go to Bright's official youtube trailer and spam request that they look into Harebrained Scheme's other bigger, stompier IP. Posted Image

As much as I love to see it happening (and 4th time similar thread has come up since I joined the forum a year ago), it's not going to happen.

1: Too niche
2: No fan support

And let me clarify point number 2, yes, we are obviously fans. But you need like... not only die-hard fans, but a THRONG of fans to be asking people all the time, "When is BTECH series going to be made?"

And also, you need someone on the inside with faint interest in this particular universe... which as it seems right now, there isn't. There's a lot of strong fan support for video game movies with insider support that never got (will get) made. (Eve Online and Borderlands come to mind) BTech has less of what they have, so the chance is even slimmer.

If the recent transformers movies didn't spawn a battletech one then nothing will.

There's potential but there's also quite a few hurdles as well. Pacific Rim was successful enough for a second movie so I'd say if we fans showed enough desire they'd at least consider it.

Maybe not a movie but a trailer for for mwo or mw5. Have you seen the trailer for armored core 5? It needs to surpass the intensity to make it at least as a first stepping stone before a movie.

What is the ratio of good video game based movies vs.bad, both artistically and financially?

A 2 hour movie will not do the Battletech universe any justice other than maybe fantastic CGI.

No, what we need is a quality sci-fi series that hopefully spans several seasons.

The Resident Evil series comes to mind as a (IMHO) failed conversion....

We can't even get enough support to fund a stein and some coasters. I agree that a MechWarrior movie is likely out of reach compared to our ambitions.

If you think that Bright is a Shadorun movie just because we have an orc and an elf, I have your Battletech series right here.

They should do a show. Scifi Game of Thrones with mechs. BT has the potential for something like that. Though I feel the cost to CGI mech battles would lead to too few battles. It would be easier to an animated series. Then you could have way more battles.

I played AC2/3/4 and only thing I learned is that the gameplay is nothing like the trailers.

Agreed. If they marketed it to the vast general audience as "a game of thrones with mechs" I bet it would take off. The only thing is I want them to stick to the battletech lore and events as close as possible. Each season of the show should broadcast each era of battletech (like the first season should be about 3025, end of that season would build up to tease into the clan invasion, next season cuts right into the clan invasion, etc).

My god I would love to see a proper battle of Tukayyid event on the big screen/tv series. Just imagine my signature below with the clan mechs emerging from the fog of war forming a firing line on some big picture. MAKE IT HAPPEN!

I would have so little faith in anyone making a BT movie or series. It needs to be made by a fan with a decent amount of money. Hollywood ruins pretty much all IPs it touches unless the directors/producers care about, understand and have a passion for the original material.

Until cast and director is announced, I'm not trusting any of those news. Also, Sony.

A netflix series should be viable. Who would've thought comic book superhero other than batman and superman can be such a big earners a decade ago? Game of Throne and Lord of the Rings are about as nerdy as you can get and both are now regarded as the bar to be measured against in their respective media.

The best thing about the BT universe is it's lore and history. Mech battle can happen in small doses like GotT dragon scenes or the space battles of The Expanse. I agree a movie wouldn't do the BT universe justice or make sense to anyone outside of people on this forum but a 12-episode series definitely has possibilities.

Name me one cop show set in a modern day city filled with fantasy races other than Who Framed Roger Rabbit. =)
