Wont stop buying 3+ until I can master a mech without that step.

I started on my Loyalty King Crab--I don't plan on buying 2 others. So I guess that means yes, I've stopped. I'll just stockpile XP once basiced and see what happens post patch.

I am basically buying packs of 3 on preorder for the bonuses and the chance to actually get them in the first place (I don't have enough time to grind Cbills to buy new Mechs anymore), and I have started buying 1-offs of Mechs that I never owned yet.

Soon we'll be able to fully master one-offs, so I recently bought my first Timberwolf and don't really plan on buying more of them since Omni and all. With New Mechs, I just get them in packs on preorder since it comes with 6million Cbills which will more than Master a mech, and sell anyones I don't like.

been buying 5 varients of each chassis. why?

because every month thats the number of new mechs that come out for cbills. any new mech is new content and is probibly the only reason im still playing this game. a month is more than enough time to master 5 mechs. and in the process of mastering, the better varients reveal themselves, and those are the ones i keep, the others get sold back to free up the mech bays for next month's mechs.

with skill trees i will still do this. in fact i hate to see the 3 mech rule go in favor of 3x more grind per mech, because when i do all 5 mechs every month, i will have 5x the grind. if the grind is 3x per mech then its 15x for me and thats damn insane. so i think rather than doing a hard 3 mech rule, we should have a multiple varient bonus. own more mechs and get an xp multiplier.

1 variants, 1.0*xp
2 variants, 1.5*xp
3 variants, 2.0*xp
4 variants, 2.5*xp
5 variants, 3.0*xp

overall xp requirements become 3x current requirements, or about 171750xp. legacy xp for previously mastered mechs gets a 3x multiplier. this system has advantages, if people buy mech packs they are rewarded with an instant 1.5x bonus, if they buy additional variants they get additional bonuses and are rewarded proportionately. skill tree nodes would be a one time xp unlock, and then a recurring cbill activation cost. if you mastered it it stays mastered, you just have to pay to activate the nodes.

if the activation cost for each node is about 55k, then the cost to activate a full set of nodes is about the same as a single high end module. so if you had one mech loaded up with modules, those modules would actually cover 3 or 4 additional mechs. now a respec is on par with other upgrades.

I'm waiting to see what actually is going to happen with the Skill Tree thing first, then I may buy new mechs for c-Bills. I have a couple in mind that I only want 1 version of but don't want to be caught with my pants down when PGI decides to do something different etc....

Well I'm a good example of a Cheapskate, C-Bills being funnelled to PokeMech and few modules. I grind all my Mechs to master and refuse to use GXP, but constant PokeMech meant many of my Mech had just enough or not more beyond master XP total before I moved on to the next chassis. That's why grind old Mechs suddenly became appealing.

At any rate apparanently a sucker for sales... Just bought three Nobori-nin which I play after I finishing grinding through my Assassins and I just ordered the Uziel and Annihilator so still buying three chassis after all...

Stopped buying "leveling variants" when mech con announced requirements change. Stopped playing much (except for events)/ buying anything when skill tree was delayed. Saving cbills for 1 of each new mech for cbills as they come out / new weapons / engines in .... December.

Omni mechs, maybe a single variant could be enough. However, it will be difficult for me to purchase only a single variant of a battlemech. I will probably get bored of the hardpoints eventually and would want another variant for more variety.

I didn't log into the PTS to test out the new skill tree. I use the PTS to test drive mechs I don't own already. The NTG was on my mind. The PTS game me the opportunity to test drive all of them. I decided on the NTG-A. Time will tell if I need another NTG for the sake of variety.

Why not the NTG-D since it has 1E on the CT (other variants have none)?

I bought one Linebacker, one MADIIC, and two Hunchback IICs, so I guess I started to not buy 3 in anticipation of the new Skill Tree.

However, I really want the speed tweak and 2X elite bonus, so I might break down and complete the set of 3. I wish I didn't have to though.

I don't like weapons in the CT for some reason. I tried it but it just feels awkward.

More hardpoints is better than less hardpoints. There's really no reason not to get the Night Gyr D. Just leave it empty until the day you come up with a build you want another laser on.

Yes I stop even planing on getting three of any mech just for the skills, Just no reason to spend that much when I really only need 1 of any mech I like. Even with just basic skills they are deadly enough in my control.

Have stopped buying 3 variants?

Yes and no

Or in other words after the big C-bill nerf what I do (for the most part)
Is I buy one Mech and get it into bascic if I like the Mech I will work on the XP
And slowly buy the other 2 variants

The only exception was when I bought 3 Hunchback IIc's, I sold them two days later

The only time I had a problem with rule of 3 was when I was new to the game
If I like the Mechs and there is some verity in the Mechs I like the rule of 3

I will be buying 2 more Linebackers when I get back home
In another post someone suggested I put SRMs on my Raven 3L but I
Already have SRMs on another Raven

So to me the rule of 3 is not that big of a deal

I stopped years ago. except this week to get my kit fox finished for the speed tweak. After I finished the last one. I sold variants I paid for cbills. Only to realize I had just sold my PR torsos. Now my Kit fox is worthless again.

No I still buy 3 as the skill tree is a long way off still and with the new tech I can setup different builds and not have to change out skill nodes. Its not that hard to master 3 mechs and get a feel for what load outs work, without the CBill cost later.
I was going over all my Mechs this week seeing what builds work and what don't so when the skill tree comes in I can get into playing the game not messing with what node to run. When you buy 3 Mechs to master there's always ones that are just rubbish right now to play but I think of the new tech when picking the ones I buy that way they could to very good to play. I think there will be a shift from long range to short and medium range fights and less LRMs going more to MRM, so Laser AMS will be a game changer. So you need to think a long way ahead when buying your mechs because if you just go for todays meta and the daka daka you may find yourself getting out gunned with the new Tech

I think I have.

I bought enough mechs since the skill tree was announced.. that it would cost me 320m C-bills to buy 2 more of each...

For the record, that is more money than it would take me to level up all the mechs i actually play under the new skill tree... So if it doesn't happen.. i have a ton of mechs that will most likely not get played for a VERY LONG TIME! AKA years...

Not if it puts me over a certain heat threshold. It is not on my radar if it will produce more heat than I prefer. Not going to waste funds on something I will not use.
