JJs on the MADIIC are pretty good, because they only weigh 1 ton.
The 3 JJs on the DWF aren't as powerful, of course, but it's more than enough to be a considerable maneuverability helper.
So anyone saying "forget them on assaults" has no idea what he's talking about.
I never got those strange people who whine about "Hoverjets". This is no japanase toy robot game where everything can fly like a plane. The current JJs are perfect as they are. Only the locked ones are annoying.
Jump Jets on Light mechs... pretty decent
Jump Jets on Medium mechs... better then lights and generally great
Jump Jets on Heavy mechs... pretty decent, maybe a little worse then lights
Jump Jets on Highlander... a 2 ton joke, seriously for 10 tons the heavy metals jumping ability is a joke.
All those that complained about pop tarting when PPC+Gauss was better then it is now is why the Highlander can't brawl with their jump jets anymore.
Time to let 2 ton jump jets be decent again. They were much better on the recent PTS with JJ skill tree. That is minimum how they should be now.
I used to jump over the atlas to the back of it, firs and then jump back to the other side for epic JJ trolling.

The Executioner only has awesome JJs if you are abusing "sliding" against terrain to get up things. For example you can jump up Canyon from lowest point ONLY if you hit the wall in the jump and "slide" up it.

If you want them to climb something, Hoverjets function "OK" at best for that.
For the purposes of poptarting, you might as well watch "I've fallen and can't get up" video.

Those canyon walls in the middle (not those which are much higher at the perimeter) are around 24m which is about the EXE's vertical jumping height.
It would be very hard because of that to get up there without touching the walls.

I only use them on one mech, my EXE and it does help, especially with MASC to maneuver better than many other slower assaults.

Does that answer your question?

The EXE is the exception though, really need more MASC mechs or bring in supercharger as equipment.

Also wouldn't mind another EXE variant released, one that would have empty omnipods, without JJ's and MASC. That would be 13 extra tons for weapons. It's true to every Assault omnimech with locked JJ's.

But yes also often on the other Dire I won't take any jumpjets as each weights two tons, which specally with dakka loadout can be important amount of more ammo. Or 4xgauss is always so limited with ammo.
With Stalker, less tonnage, I've not felt the need for jumpjets.

but also change jumpjet reticle shake so the reticle keeps shaking until you touch the ground again.
but also I think the diminishing returns concept for jumpjets is stupid. Why are you punished for putting more jumpjets on your mech? shouldnt you be rewarded for that? jumpjets should use reverse diminishing returns. you shouldnt be rewarded with the biggest gains for just putting 1 jumpjet on a mech like people often do. You should be rewarded with the biggest gains when you max out a mech's jumpjets.

The JJs have come in handy a few times clearing rocks and helping to scoot my fat butt up hills.

This isn't some Japanese toy robot game, bro (even though the original BT art was sourced from Japan). Keep your mobile assault mech fantasies where they belong...in a Gundam game (or something). And don't you dare reference tabletop jump heights or anything. This isn't Battletech.

Sorry that you want to be over dramatic about it.

But the highlander 2 ton jump jets are abysmal.
The mech was nerfed into the ground when PPC/Gauss Tarting was a thing. Now gauss+PPC isn't as op as you can see with gargoyles (which jump just fine)
But yet the highlander is still gimped.
Most of us are asking for a little unnerfing not being able to get to the top of the mountain on Crimson in one shot.

This is actually quite easy to assess: in the current game's environment, is it worth taking a Jump Jet?
If the answer is no then the equipment in question needs to be better, e.g. the Class I JJs. Alternatively, you can change the game's environment but that's out of the question.
