MC and C-Bills seems to be the most appealing prizes from what I've seen, otherwise we're pretty open to any types depending on the effort of the challenge(s). Colors and sometimes even camos however are the most complicated to give away though. Reason to that is because if you have bought a color on your account and suddenly that very color is now a prize from an event, you wouldn't benefit from it as you cannot receive that very same color twice..
Secret prizes should be stuff that you can't get yet - unreleased stuff. Stuff people might be able to purchase later, but for now, people will be scrambling to attain the secret whatever it is. And you can make it so people win the 'secret prize' and that 'secret' will be injected on Monday. That way, people will log on, fight for the prize until they get it. You can make it more difficult to get the better secret prizes - like mechs - but NO ONE will know what the prize is until they get it, keeping the suspense up. Obviously the hype will be real if people are working their butts off to achieve what they perceive to be a better prize. (Of course, if you make the challenge difficult and then give out a kiss-my-butt decal, people might get discouraged.)
Another idea is the 'get the whole collection' secret objectives. So, maybe a set of four decals, or a cockpit suite (standing, hanging, and warhorn).
Easy things you wouldn't have to advertise HOW to win it, just that we have to keep playing and ideally, eventually we'll get it. The harder things - especially those that require us to play or achieve things in certain game modes, maps, or mechs, we should know about.
I do think that giving out mechs, or maybe some peices of not-released-yet civil war technology could be interesting! Redeem codes for camo patterns would work too. In fact, here's another idea:
Have the artists create a camo pattern or two that can ONLY be gathered through events. I know the artists are loath to produce more skins because they have to put the skins on EVERY DARNED MECH, but if the skins become a chase item, it might be worth it to add another skin or two. Or colors. Like metallic color unlock codes for really shiny mechs?
