The locust is soo good in QP, i find it hard to not outdamage most assaults unless someone get a lucky hit on you.

In the time a direwhale needs to reach the frontline the locust player probably already dealt the first 100+ points of damage...

Thus, since usually they are dead, usually from doing something stupid to begin with, I just mute them, and potato on. Considering how often this potato outscores his "betters", can't say that I be too worried. As a person of Irish descent, I know the value of a potato, one of the most versatile items in any kitchen. In fact, I think I need to make potato pancakes for breakfast now.

Had a few of these types of specialists on my team a round ago. Grim Plexus Domination.... our team happens to spawn on the bad side (The one with no cover in the circle), meaning we have to push up close around the side. 9 players push and 3 assaults stay back... lurming from cover not once exposing themselves or even getting their own locks. After all 9 of us have died these potatoes start noticing that the enemies are getting close to them and their lurms are inefective.
At the end of the round they had nice damage numbers, but in the end they just leached off everyone even though we had people calling out instructions regarding movement and targeting... The excuse that they were slow assaults does not count either, as the main team had a Mauler who could easily keep up.
Please do not mistake damage numbers and scores for any indication of what a potato is. A player can have a high score and still be an absolute useless spud, or someone can have a low damage score because someone got a lucky shot on him, but he was still able to slow the enemies long enough for the main team to flank them.

LOL.
Considering that I play short range Medium Mechs, yeah, I'm going to take my higher damage and match scores to be indicative, thanks. When my Assassin lays out 500+ dmg and 4-5 kills to my "Superiors" heavy and assault meta mechs that dies with under 300 dmg and maybe a kill?
Your little stereotypes only work when they have a modicum of accuracy. Since I seldom LRM, or run Assaults... you missed, by a lot.
Try again?
(Oh, and btw... I'm a self admitted potato. Average player. I just laugh at the amount of epeen I see and then the stats don't back it in the actual matches I play with such worthies.)

One does not simply potato the potato, when the potato is in of itself a potatoy potato. A potato must potato to potato the other potato and draw support from the Spud to properly potato the potato.
Translated to English. You probably aren't a potato if you think you are being a potato. In the game, a Potato is someone who is an absolute failure of a player who believes that he is in the right, what he is doing is the absolute, and that everyone else is failing because they don't play for him. They will be using the "meta builds" (lrms, gauss, ppc, laser/dakka boat) and/or copying what they see on youtube. When they do well, they'll brag that they carried the team and call everyone who didn't do as well a potato. When they completely fail and do terrible, they immediately leave the match (sometimes before they even die). While he occasionally has high number stats, he generally has no idea on how to play the game and is heavily carried the whole match. The average potato will probably have low to mid range damage (200-300), several kills, no KMDD, and very few assists.
Do not confuse this with the new players who will look similar on the surface. New players actually are learning from what they play, and generally evolve into another type of player. The main difference between a Potato and this "New Player" is that the new player learns while the potato is set in his ways and anything else is wrong. New players, however, can evolve into potato if not groomed properly.
Edit; I somewhat recently encountered a Potato King (the evolved for of Potato). I was one of 2 non-"meta" mechs in the match, an AC/20 + SRM18 Orion. His first comment was about me and the other non-"meta" mech saying we don't belong, but it was so garbled is was hardly intelligible. He was smacktalking basically the whole match after I made a comment that he should stop deepthroating the mic. His response was that his mic was so close because he was, and I quote "am super pro you {insert profane namecalling here}" (couldn't tell what he called me because it was so garbled). I ran along, without support because nascar, into a group of a Battlemaster, a Kodiak, and a Marauder at the entrance of the Crimson Straights tunnel. I held them off alone for about a minute, eventually just running in when I finally had a few mediums come in to support me. I tore off some components, heavily crippled those assaults, and died in the push after some more enemies dropped from the platform above. My game then decided to crash XD "Disconnected from the server", however I could still hear VOIP. He was trashtalking so hard "ooh look, he ragequit. That kid needs to learn 2 play and git good. he probably did sub 100 damage. He was useless for the team." et cetera. I eventually got back in time to see the last guy on our team die. Despite being one of the first to die, I had ~380 damage and 5 assists (with 2 KMDD but no kills). The guy trashtalking me had ~150 damage and 4 kills (no assists). This guy is the definition of Potato. He doesn't play well. He thinks he is the right, and everyone else is terrible. He calls others bad. Et cetera. Point is, don't be potato. However, if you be potato for sakes of potato, for the love of {insert deity or important figure here} don't evolve into Potato King.

That said, there are 3 pieces of advice I ALWAYS give to players when i see that they need it:
#1- lower your mouse sensitivity
#2- be aggressive. allowing the enemy to surround you and take the high ground is a recipe for disaster (duh, and yet on almost every map I see this happen)
#3- don't play a long range assault. that armor is needed up front and you are too big and slow to trade favorably at range
I think that if every single player would repeat this advice every single game (w/o resorting to pejoratives) a good portion of the so-called potatoes would see marked improvements in their play.

If you dont care about epeen then why compare scores? If you really want to see if your " superiors" are actually any good, you can always check the leaderboard Average Match score, W/L Ratio, and KDR, because single match performances dont really indicate anything.

Isn't helped by the fact that what you see in spectator isn't what the player you're spectating sees. To really get a good idea of how they're aiming, look at the reticle and see if its turning red, and see the enemy's status (if they're targeting them).

Because Leaderboards can be just as misleading? Most Tryhards are also part of a team, which can massively skew stats. Do I care about epeen? Again, if I did, I wouldn't constnatly call myself average, to at best, high average. What I do find laughable is how often I see big meta-tryhard names in QP that don't seem to do near as well as their epeen posturing would make one assume, when forced to play solo.
You also note, I didn't say "all tryhards are blowhards", and make one of the usual overgeneralized disparaging statements commonly handed down from Mt Tryhard. Because I do see some who do carry, who do impress, no matter the setting.
But I've played enough with and against pretty much all the Forum Tryhards to say a significant number of them have not left me feeling they were the next Proton or Heimdelight, no matter their swagger, when I've encountered them. Also seen several 4mans from certain vocal teams fall pretty flat.
Gosh... hope your ears weren't burning there, Gas.
So yeah, a single match doesn't mean anything... but tbh, almost everything in one's stats is gameable, or at least skewed. I basically can only go by the average of what I actually see (and I've seen most of you often enough). On average, yup, high leaderboards show some consistency. Don't tell the whole tale, though. I can think of more than one notable on here that is realyl good at using the rest of their team as meatshields while they hang back and LRM, or Snipe, and while their stats at the end look pretty good, they've actualyl done blessed little to help the team. But apparently that is the divine right of being a Comp?
(I'll also note most of these Pros never remotely try to rally or direct the team, and in fact certain groups, including members of your own unit, frequently ignore the rest of the team, VOIP, etc. In which case? They got no place to say a damn thing after.)
And TBH? IDC if you are Proton or Heimdelight.... if you zig when you should have zagged, and got skragged? That round, at least, you got no place running your mouth about anyone else. Because you failed to do any better.

Oh I know, but you can always tell the difference between someone who can aim and someone who can't. Veteran players have very smooth motions and a minimum amount of reticle movement. When the reticle never even goes over the enemy mech before they pull the trigger you just want to slit your wrists. Moving while trying to aim at small or fast targets is never helpful either, especially people in assault mechs whose foot steps violently rocks the reticle. Just stand still to take your shot.
