I was saying that like week 3 of playing the game after watching folks in the trial assaults over and over, clearly not knowing how to even employ the weapons in those mechs properly. But then with wisdom and time in the game you learn that such folks exist even in the case of multi year veterans...still building their fancy owned mechs with things that cannot shoot as far as the target.... or trying to damage things too close for the weapons they fitted.

AC weapons should technically be more powerful than energy weapons. In Lore, medium lasers barely damaged assault mechs.

You reference lore... but ignore the damages of the AC weapons in that lore ? Also ignore what happens when its more than ONE medium laser being fired at assault mechs. A wolfhound or thunderbolt with 3 medium lasers all hitting dealt more damage than a PPC, and as much as a gauss rifle. A Jenner and its 4 medium lasers all hitting and poof...that's the damage of an AC/20.

Wow, never knew that in Lore a ML did less than 5 points of damage for 1 ton and one slot. Always good to learn new things. Posted Image

You want less noobs, better players ?

TEACH THEM HOW TO PLAY !

Well, not you particularly since you admit you're quite bad, me neither since I'm still learning how to "be gud", but I've seen on these forums and heard on VOIP and read ingame several veterans willing to help and tell what we/me did good, did bad, and what to do right.

Complaining about newbies on a forum read by 10% of the game's population just make you look like a tool.

I will assume that either:

A ) You're simply trolling or
B ) You're new to MW:O and don't realize that noobs don't listen and are physically incapable of learning. That's why we call them "noobs" or "potatoes."

The thing I hate is, when the team calls a push, and half of the pushing mechs run back behind cover and hide as soon as they see enemy fire, letting their teammates die for nothing, just to follow them shortly after.

I hate the players who call for that push by hiding behind everyone else... and then only step out to vulture the kill that the guy who they used for the shield also did most of the work damaging. I saw this last night in a match where someone was barking orders from a Ebon, and then complained when I ran my banshee up the F5 ramp on Crimson, saw that there were five enemy mechs all ready to shoot me, and immediately turned to drop off the ramp rather than just get myself killed. Ohhh did the guy in the ebon start cursing and lecturing about how I need to learn how to play the game, etc. Nevermind the fact I'd already been at the front of the tunnel push he called for and didn't participate in, and was down 17% of my total HP, all off my front armor (and that particular banshee is only 10 pts short of max armor), which on a banshee represents about 149 pts lost. His mech was virtually undamaged. In the end, he did manage 2 kills but hiding thru most of the game he wasn't "sharing" armor and was one of the last to fall in a 12 to 6 loss.

Then there was the game where playing domination on the desert, myself in a king crab built largely brawler (4 SL, 4 SRM6, 2 AC/5) and a ECM cyclops went to flank the 7 line ridge while the other ten mechs charged the center bunny slaughter side of the circle. In 3 minutes... using just my AC/5s I accounted for a killed enemy, and the cyclops accounted for 1 of the enemy. The rest of the team. All dead. With no kills to show for it. I was the only survivor as the clock ran out by wisely knowing the game was unwinnable and simply seeking cover before the enemy team's faster units could reach me. Some all-chat from them talking about my hiding a brawler build. I don't see trying to flank a brawler build, scoring a kill solo, and then realizing I was placed on a team with well... you can think of some euphamisms to describe ten players who die in the first 3 minutes.... requires me to commit suicide also. None of them that raced to try and kill me, actually wanted to close with me once they saw I was a brawler build. I'm sure they were expecting one of those troll LRM builds.

no offense OP, but that is rather conceited. You have no say on how people play at all, and there is no guarantee you would do better.

Noobs are not the only ones that do this. I do this very same thing from time to time. I do it because I may be in the mood for messing around for what ever reason. In other words, I don't take this game as serious as you do.

Neither, my dear Bag of Salt.

I've been playing this game for more than a year, and I'm still a noob. I'll readily admit it.

But I listen to my betters.

And I learn.

And I really get better as the time passes, the games get played, and experience accumulates.

Noobs being incapable of learning is simply not true.

*YOU* were a noob once, Mister Salt and Vinegar, don't forget that, we all start at the bottom of the ladder.

He's probably expecting them to all have XL400s equipped. Hence if they catch up in 3, they're experienced. If not, they're n00b.

Newbie =/= potato. Potato is potato and will potato in any Tier. Newbies can learn, potatoes refuse too.

The facts of the matter are

Tier 5's will be grouped with Tier 1's in quick play.
Both teams could have this happen, so both teams are on even footing with random selection.
OP can't control this. No one can.
OP can control how well he plays in the match.

Until the game dies (it's on its way out) or PGI decides to fix things, all players can do is put on their carry pants and either lead in VOIP or rant like a madman once they are dead.

It's your fault if a slow Assault Mech rush blindly into a horde of enemies.
Scout and put the enemy Mechs on the Battlegrid... oh wait, what doesn't work because PGI killed Information Warfare with ECM and Radar Derp...
So use a UAV,a TAG, a BAP, a NARC...

About R & R: make it 4R
not only "Repair" (spending C-Bills after the match to repair the mech) and "Rearm" (spending C-Bills to replace spent ammo).
That's just 2 Rs.
The most important R is missing: "Retreat". Give the loosing side a chance to retreat from the map (by dropship like in Scouting, or by leaving the map at a certain border) to save their Mechs.
With "Retreat" as 3rd R "Rebuy" would be possible...
If your Mech is disabeld (both Legs or Head cut of, Engine destroyed) you can rebuy it from the winning side. If it is destroyed (CT no structure left) the player get the same Mech from his faction, but with stock armament. In both cases he can spend C-Bills to repair or rebuild his old Mech.

IMHO such a system would only work in Faction Warfare (without scouting), and the C-Bills for the Repair / Rearm / Rebuy should come from the units C-Bill coffers.

Calling it a "ladder" implies that you can eventually rise above novice gameplay and eventually play with others that have managed to pull themselves out of the cesspool.

As there is no functional matchmaker, this simply can't happen. As to trying to "teach" them anything, it's an exercise in futility.

If you say so, Willard Phule.

You could call me an idealist, but I don't really believe you ... I'm not salted or bitter enough yet, I guess.

So, quick question : if "others that have managed to pull themselves out of the cesspool" were not blessed by the Magical Fairies of PGI at birth to be the supreme warriors they are, how did they pull themselves out if not by learning ?

You're kinda defeating your own point with that sentence ...

So you're basing the laser damage on the fictional fluff used to talk about the fictional table top board game, and sell some backstory to the folks lacking their own imaginations to come up with their own worlds of wonder.

People piss and moan when an assault hangs back.... now people piss and moan because the assault doesn't hang back hang back.... maybe the rest of the team should have pushed also...

If they are that friggin new and you are playing along with them maybe you aren't as good as you think ;)

Maybe try helping the new player by giving helpful hints instead of coming here and whining like a friggin baby about new people... you were new and you sucked just as much once! People should be allowed to play whatever mech they feel like and if you don't like it go play Minecraft.... it's a game get over it and if it means this much in your life... seek therapy!

@ OP – I doubt this would change anything – personally I’m still perfectly capable of being rubbish in an assault (or any other class) i.e. last night first 8 games in a new MAD IIC – C 1-7 W/L ...guess what the common denominator was... me (being rubbish in an Assault)! Regardless of what the rest of my team was doing I wasn’t helping (so I changed what I was doing, and had better results for the rest of the night). I can’t effect MM so I focus on what I can do better.

I love it when there a competent assault pilots in the team I’m on, but they sure aren’t an auto win... think of all the games when your D/C is an assault (same effect as a yolo)... its not an auto lose either.

Out of curiosity if you did have to progress x amount of y to unlock assaults as an playable class ... what would your criteria be?
