Ok so first off...this OP didn't do much to provide a discussion.

However, I'll still make 2 comments.

1. The MC mechs may provide bonuses or advantages on papers however, they will not make up for a lack of player skill. The better skilled player or more coordinated team of players will still prevail.

2. I do think that PGI needs to provide CBill counterparts of these MC mechs though, in order to prevent things from being locked behind a paywall and also to provide more options to the playerbase as a whole for mech builds.

Don't forget we do have events that give out MC, I'd guess I've made at least enough MC over the years to buy a couple of mechs.

Contrary to the title, the trend for F2P in the game industry seems to be borderline or grey area P2W. This is especially with mobile. Heck I am just polite. Just P2W simple. Players don't seem to be bothered with it either, in fact they demand they get their money's worth.

1 - The multiple real-world examples prove otherwise.

2 - Your implication that MWO is or is going P2W is false.

3. PGI will evaluate the Hero Mechs and may decide to scale back the Mechs so they offer no advantages over existing variants of each chassis. Russ has already stated on Twitter that PGI will issue refunds if needed to those that bought expecting one thing that end up getting something else entirely.

There is no way any Hero mech is P2W....p2W stands for Pay to Win and you are not guaranteed to win with these mechs. And, there is nothing to win anyway.

Right now you can just buy cbill clan mechs to win, so meh, the heros won't be better then the best clan mechs.

IMO.

The Mighty Quest for Epic Loot, once popular and fun game died and got shut down after devs went pay to win path.

World of Tanks is a very good example. It was originally the quintessential P2W game that would be referenced in any forum discussion about F2P monetization and how not to do things. It was the laughing stock of the gaming world.

Eventually the developers made it "free to win" by removing certain premium-only bonuses and making Gold Ammo available without real money (but a grind instead...).

And at no point did P2W literally mean "you are guaranteed to win if you buy this". P2W simply means "you have a significant advantage by spending real money over those that do not spend money".

Whether that advantage is significant or not (hint: in this case it is), or even whether you care about whether a developer leverages player advantage for cash, is entirely up to you- but don't pretend it isn't what it is.

By that logic PGI could sell gold ammo for 5,000MC a shot that would one hit kill any mech in the game and it still wouldn't be P2W since there would be no guarantee it would hit it's target.

There are lots of bad P2W games that make money but it's much harder to change a game from a good F2P model to P2W without losing most of the existing player base.

Its not p2win its p2balance. Example If you want a "better balanced" mist lynx or ice ferret you better get your wallet out.

This is a horrible definition.

Let's envision a tank or a mech game is that pay to win.

All the best tanks, items, weapons, mechs, armor, skill sets are behind a paywall.

The wallet warriors all bought them up.

The game simply tiers all the gold warriors into a gold tier or league of their own.

When the gold warriors fight each other, there is going to be one winner and one loser, achieving a 50/50 W/L ratio unless there are gold warriors that are skilled enough to rise above the rest.

Since buying the best stuff doesn't guarantee that you win, because you get up tiered to a gold tier to fight other gold item warriors on now equal terms, the game is "technically" not P2W.

Just let you know my home country's video gaming market was utterly destroyed when they went full F2W route.

Just two games. Overwatch and LoL nearly eradicated South Korean's game developers. Those companies that once boasted twice of the size of EA, now they are only making crappy mobile games. And it took no more than 2 years.

All that really says is those companies made shovelware and couldn't actually make games...wait a second...that sounds vaguely familiar.
