Soooo ... a 50t medium with a whooping speed of 87kph and effective range of 100m suddenly creeped up at you from nowhere and "basically" one-shotted you (with flamers I take it) ...

Yeah, I clearly see a problem.

Sadly for you the problem isn't the Nova.

PGI needs to hire the b33f to sell mechs. I had a match in group queue QP last night where the reds had 5 of the flamer Novas. Alas, none of these folks were sneaky, as illustrated in the b33f's video, but instead bum rushed across open ground...on Frozen. As an IS player, I can only say that I am really starting to love this new Nova trend. I sure hope it continues, as it may allow even a scrub like me to finally get some decent stats.

The thing has an effective range of like 150 meters? Also, it can't stun lock you if you don't fire anything hot back at it. So just wait for its flamers to stop (because they will pretty quickly build up too much heat itself), then your heat should start to drop and you can fire at it. Also, try to use VOIP to get any nearby teammates to shoot at it!

That is what the B33f does. He finds ridiculous/troll builds and exploits and then shows people how to make them.

As for the recent Nova Flamer build, I haven't seen it become a problem or issue yet. It seems like it is a difficult build to use under most situations. You have to pick out a mech by itself, get close to that person without them seeing you, and then flamer them before they can react. It seems like if any of those things doesn't happen, you are going to have a bad time.

If target isn't alone, the Nova runs into the middle of enemies and gets lit up by one of the people he isn't targeting. If the target sees the Nova, it might be able to blow off a crucial arm before the Nova gets in range.

Overall, I am thinking it is one of those builds that require the stars to align...so to speak. Basically Feast or Famine. If things go your way as that Nova pilot, you probably could really do some damage. however, if any one thing goes wrong, you will be left wrecked rather quickly. Heck, lose one arm with that mech (either one) and you are in rough shape.

it sucks when it happens to you, but how often does it really happen? I played most of the night last night and got shut down once....just once - out of maybe 24 QP matches. The range is soooo short that in order to get into range they have to expose themselves taking damage along the way so they are beat up when they get close enough.

Well, as I said earlier, I run nothing but a flame nova and I'm doing decently with it. (I can't say how many other players run it and are decent, though.)
* I can get in range fairly easily by hiding or ambushing. Contrariwise, rushing forward is almost always a really terrible idea.

* This also takes care of facing enemy groups; choke points are good for this. Depending on the situation, if the target doesn't have someone to help him IMMEDIATELY, he's doomed.

* If I can see the enemy's build (e.g. heavy ballistics), I can change my mind about engaging.

I still have to hope the enemy will panic and overheat, and I also have to hope that I can see his cockpit when he does (although CTR works, it doesn't get me a headshot.)

Ran into a couple folks running flamer novas in fp last night. The we're sneaky and got into the brawl, we called them put and our teammates killed them while the hot mech drew it out into our firing line. Situational awareness and teamwork still op.

I ran one yesterday in FW. I got 3 headshots but a couple of people were smart - either used terrain to break LOS and get it of 90m or chain fired on me.

12 ersmls is still a better performer overall.

I managed to get a Commando to overheat and then headshot him with my Firestarter hero last night but it's by no means easy.

I tried Nova, didn't liked. It's slow for a medium.

I got attacked by one in the building between Epsi and theta in crimson straights... spotted it, communicated to team, ran from flamers whilst twisting to spread any spl fire... it broke off and attacked a converging team mate... and then the flame nova overheated and shutdown.. really should have gone for the ironic headshot!

I mean, I see the OP's point - bitching about the stormcrow got that banned from scouting, so why not give it a shot?

The Flamer Nova is a 1 trick pony and if it is killing you REPEATEDLY then the problem is not with that build but with you. Blow it's arms off and walk away laughing!

I too have run into a FlamerNova a few times. Annoying at most, I'd say. I run mostly assaults and heavies with ballistic-hevy loadouts, so usualy I can pop a few slugs point blank even at 90% heat. Only ever tried the trial nova, and it feels huge and slow for its tonnage. I can't imagine how that thing could ever be a game breakingly OP mech. Not in any load out.

Ran it for a week till I got board, going solo with must mechs is dumb, but the flamer nova shines best as a support mech. Stick with the group or herd pick a brawler buddy or even better two buddies stay by there side focus fire and wreck a lot of face.

Lone wolf thing is foolish it may work some times but stick with your team unless your something like a arctic cheetah then be like a cat and do what ever you want.

oOoOO! What is this flamer nova sounds like fun...challenging if anything.

Hope it's as much fun as rackin' MG kills in the Hugin' though I suppose you'd kinda be just be more of a pest? Wonder how well it scores.

I shall now find this flamer nova!!!

Is the Direstar B33f's invention or (like the flamer nova) he's just doing it better than most?

That was the last time I remember him having a noticeable impact on builds, it was an interesting few weeks after that build came out...
