I would like to know since we are having major upgrade in OS at around the same time. This could really be an issue!

lol. Zing!

Aside from the fact that there's currently some question as to whether Windows 8 is going to be the new "ME" release and that many people don't upgrade ... I'm sure that existing (modern) games will run under Windows 8 when it comes out.

I upgraded to Win 7 about a year ago after using XP for over 10 years.
I see no reason up upgrade to Win 8 now.
Besides its so new that I have yet to see any games have support for it at all, I have yet to even see it up for sale anywhere.
I thought it was still just in development/testing stages.

Calling windows 8 an upgrade is like calling it an upgrade to go from xp to windows 3.1....... Bad OS......

Windows 8 is based on 7.5 but M$soft is going to try and push it for desktops and laptops....... I personally hope the entire endeavor fails since Windows 8 looks like the child of cluster f/u/c/k and I dont want them to keep pushing trash our way.....

I really dislike the way they are going in other words.... The xbox 360's interface changes were bad enough and this takes it to a whole new level of crapiness......

I'll be in the 'not biased' camp and say that Win8 is perfectly fine and actually easier to use once you learn how to. I've been running windows 8 on my development and gaming rigs for almost two months now and I haven't had any problems yet. I play all my games as usual and write code in C# and Java. I'm also not a 'fan boy' as I spent  years as a senior Linux administrator and still run Linux on two of my servers. Don't judge the OS by the start menu replacement :D Windows 8 just improves on Windows 7 in my opinion, and the extra touch friendly interfaces are a great excuse for me to buy a big touch screen for... Development..testing...yeah...

The best OS is one you never need to even interact with.

Name one thing that got 'replaced' on Windows 8 that I would care about. My OS works as a framework OTHER programs operate in. I pick those programs off the desktop. I don't even use the start menu anymore. The only other thing I depend on it for is housekeeping tasks and file exploring.

Windows 8's underlying desktop tech is a tweaked and actually speedier Win7 experience. I've had no issues running D3, SWTOR, GW2, etc on Win8x64. The general rule of thumb with Win8 is: if it runs on Win7 it runs on Win8.

Microsoft believes that touch screen interfaces are the way of the future and they don't want to be last to the party, that is why the pushed so hard for windows 8. That being said, I have played with windows 8 for a month or so and it seems very stable. I will likely not upgrade my gaming PC right away but I will probably take a chance on the new MS Surface tablet.

Win 8 = Win 7+ Tochpad + Smartfon-like interface
Win 7 = Vista - bugs
Win Vista = XP + 64 bit support
......
......
......
Windows 1.0= MsDos + graphic interface

I could take shots in the dark all day, but I think instead of having me guess what you'd like in the OS you should check it out and try it for yourself.

All sarcasm aside, I was just asking. I have the preview release running on three machines and it seems very stable. So as far as being the "silly" OP the only "silly/dumb" question is the one not asked.......

sorry had to do it....sarcasm/off

you left off 2000 which was one of the most popular used. Then there are all of the NT OSes that you left off, and you split windows 3 into 2 different parts in your list. Windows 3 didn't work without Dos so you have to put Dos on the list, and there were 7 versions of Dos before windows.
