Thw IV4 doesn't have the hardpoint quality or location of the Roughneck, nor as much survivability quirks. The roughneck can shoot without exposing anything, unlike the IV4, which has to face enemies with full frontal exposure. Not even in the same league.

Pretty sure that the IV4 has armor quirks DOUBLED the Roughneck (just without the structure quirks, which are much less valuable).
IV4 also has massive acceleration and deceleration quirks in addition to massive ballistic quirks (30% cooldown and 25% velocity) and pretty good missile quirks (20% cooldown and velocity).

It also has access to Jump Jets, which Roughneck does not have.

Guys, it's REALLY not the same. The IV4 doesn't have the hardpoints to do anything of relevance. Its energy hardpoints are in the CT, which means you have two slots for both, and they are SO low you have to shoot with your belly; the ballistics are even lower. The roughneck can mount ballistics or energy higher than the cockpit, and most of them have even head hardpoints.

On first glance it looks quite a nice tough little mech.

It also appears to be slow (a lot of that limited tonnage is going weapons rather than an engine) and with the exception of one variant slow to maneuver - the fast light and medium wolf packs are going to love paper cutting it to death.

It looks like its going to be a hill humper well suited to the long range trade meta.

Complaints about "too much quirks" or "not enough quirks" aside, i like the animations. Very stompy.
The cockpit view is also quite interesting. Definitely gives off them industrial vibes with the meshing on the side window panels.

While it might be a very good Mech in the weight class, the broken promises of something never done before was and still is half true, also half a lie, good reason to not touch this Mech.

A quad or IS Omni that would have been truly new and never done but this Mech brings nothing new to the game, only worth a regular CBill purchase.

now that the cockpit vid is up, i'm so very very happy with everything about the roughneck. i was hoping it'd be as tight packed as it is, thing looks like a cabin on a tower crane. the mesh on the side windows is a nice nod to its industrial nature. I'm ******* stoked for this thing, even if its final fate is as a garage ornament. biggest question now is- Do the hands open?

surprised with the cockpit, I was expecting it to be more towards the bottom, where you get a better view of the Sky, similar to how it works with the Assassin. Though they place you up higher, easier to see pesky bugs, but acts like most of the mechs in game when looking up..

Though now that I think of it, being based off a loader mech you had to look down to pick up things, so having it higher in the glass that you can see down below better makes sense.

As for the movement animations, I don't care to much on it.

I don't know about the Bias but I find it funny that it has better quirks than the Orion. The Orion is extremely tanky in TT. Industrial mechs in TT tend to have engine stalls and Self Destruct randomly when taking damage or falling. I'm not sure where they got the idea these mechs were tanky juggernauts.

TT has no quirks so its no more tanky than any other mech there which has the same armour. Posted Image

One thing I'm wondering, when will the colors become available? I ask because the Roughneck's pre-order was already expired before I started playing.

It doesn't matter if you Pre Purchased it, it depends if you are a Early Adopter. If you bought the Mech before the start of January you would have gotten the Early Adopters Rewards. Pre Purchasing after wouldn't give it to you.

If, you did purchase as a Early Adopters, go to your Mech Camo, and look at your Owned Colors

Think you just "DOUBLED" my reason to pull the IV out of mothball storage...

After all in the past, with all but 1 armor to the front it tanked like a beast.

Now I am told it has even MOAR ARMOR!?
Maybe it'll feel like a Dragon does in Battletech... practically invincible.

Side note:

For some reason PGI and some morons among the community think that structure quirks are more useful. What they don't seem to realize is when crits occur, 15% of the crit damage (whether 1x, 2x or 3x) is then added to additional structure damage. So yeah structure quirks really are less valuable because if they got through your armor you're already screwed.

The argument for structure on torso locations is that it applies to front or back damage. A huge CT structure buff if you have nothing in there (except engine mounted bolt-on DHS) for example means you have a better chance of surviving a light mech backstab. Generally I'd rather have armor to avoid critting out systems, but I concede that in the torso structure quirks can be super handy. It would also help against overheat damage cooking you, I suppose. Fringe benefits are still benefits.

You might want to actually read what you link. The very first line: Design Quirks are an optional rule set, first formalized in Strategic Operations.

Never seen them used in any official ranked tournament I've played in.

Some people have never attended a ranked tournament. That optional rule set pretty is common for my friends and I.

Also, Totty never said the quirks were required, just that TT has them.

Yeah and you can house rule anything you want still doesn't mean you can use it those house rules to argue balance.

So far the divergence on these mechs is awful - finding all the better fits I ignore most of the hardpoints.
