It's much worse than that. Using your assumptions, it would take 84 matches to break a 50% likelihood of success, 168 matches to break 75%, 362 to break 95%, and 556 to break 99%.

I've come close three times. Once the match ended when I had the target cornered but before I could get a kill, once I legged the target only to be killed by his teammate, and the third time my teammate stole the kill. I've lost track of how many matches I've played.

I can't speak to the accuracy of your numbers, but I'm fairly sure that the statistics of probabilities don't work the way you've presented them.

Taking your initial probability as correct, each game is an isolated instance of a 0.8% chance. The more you play doesn't change this. You could play for a thousand years and you're never going to get more than that 0.8% chance.

Only complaint I might have against this event is the fact that Incursion matches are a bit too rare, would've been nice to see more of them during the event.

As for the rewards, they are really nice, The warhorns you get from killing the carrier along with the mechbay for completing all of the challenges are all pretty expensive items (in terms of real money) and shouldn't be easy to get, period. Once again, it's an event with free stuff.
Killing the carrier is hard, it's supposed to be hard, that's why they give a nice prize for it.
I too despaired of getting it, but a Roughneck picked one up in a game just to grant a bonus to anyone killing him.

As for everyone complaining about not seeing anyone picking them up, you must've had bad luck. The majority of the games I've been in (both before and during the event), people have been playing it as it's meant to be played. That is, lights (usually) keep the towers (mostly radar and jam) active during most of the game, some games have been won by shooting out the other sides mechs, one or two by stomping the enemy base, most games contain both a bit of basewrecking and some good ol' team deathmatch.

tldr:

1) Shame they couldnt up the frequency of Incursion games.
2) It's supposed to be hard to kill a carrier, hence the nice reward
3) I really enjoy seeing a game mode that is more than just Team Deathmatch

Number one suggestion I've got after all this: make fuel cell pickup have no cooldown. None. That makes holding the cells actually useful.

oh... you're absolutely right. This calculation is not correct as you can't just multiply like this - but just like the assumptions it gives are more "positive" result... and still ends up on a rather bad result.

FINALLY. Got it. Chased a panther in one game and got smited in a mad dash to get the cat. Then in another game a locust snagged one and got plastered by my streaks. Time to play the crazy fuel cell suicide locust the rest of the event. I will try to kill people, but will be troll.

Had someone on Saturday help me finish the event (they let me finish them off while they had a fuel cell)

Since then I have been trying to help others in a similar way, and I have come to a conclusion:

The Skirmish f*cktards are one of the biggest things wrong with this game.
They complain about anyone doing ANYTHING but shooting at the other team
They complain when there is ANYTHING on the map but other mechs

....Then they whine that there is nothing to the game but mechpacks and Skirmish.

Normally this is easy to ignore, but trying to help people get the kills, and the most common response I get is (and I QUOTE)
"F*CK YOU"

I still can't believe a Catapult tried to deliver a fuel cell to my team's base. What a smart move that was! So killed him, and completed the "Delivery Failed" portion of the event. Seriously, though, teams must keep an eye out for where they're going. One does not deliver fuel to the wrong base.

I've done that. It was on purpose. I've done the challenge, I was allowing the other team the opportunity to get the delivery failed.

Less than 24 hours left on the original duration for this Event, and I'm more angry than a beehive of African Bees. You know, the kind that can keep stinging endlessly. I can't bring enough firepower to take down a Fuel Cell Carrier without overheating and/or being too slow to keep up, and if I bring enough speed then I fail automatically at killing that Fuel Cell Carrier. PGI has failed by creating a Luck-Based Challenge, as opposed to anything else that's Skill-Related. They say you'll get everything in the Challenge List through natural organic play, but that particular item fights the game mode's design to concentrate on in order to achieve. :angry:

To anyone currently supporting MWO with Real Life $$$, I suggest you vote with closing your wallets and teach PGI to not be jerks to their community. -_-

FINALLY I did this, i had the luck to get a roughneck and a cell carrier, i think it was even both achievements with one kill.
BUT i struggled to get the buildings destroyed, till the battle just before.

My whole lance ran into enemy base, and I managed with my griffin to get the 3 needed buildings in ONE battle!
(Yes I know that is a little selfish, but, hey I struggled like 10 hours to get it)

GOOD luck to all others, I will be out there for some 2-3 more battles maybe some one needs a cell carrier

guys. IF incursion shows in the option list. lets all be decent people and help each other. ask you team mates and the enemy if they have the carrier kill and offer to be their kill.

easy fix this difficult part of the event.

i have done it once so far, but have not gotten any incursion modes since last night some time. will do it every time now. but ask some one offer it to me, as i don't have my kill yet.

i might also add, although some might not like this, but i am also offering a free kill on all modes other than incursion to turn games over faster to get incursion games.

i might sound like i have a bad attitude, but i have been playing for 2 days straight. can't give up that much time now. now i'm just frustrated.

Seems to me like they do this sometimes just to throw their white-knight apologists a bone. You know, the people whose only argument is that a for-profit corporation doesn't have to do nice things like this for us, and that we should be thankful for what we got.

been playing all weekend and have seen incursion about 10-12% of the time...pretty rare..... and have not seen a carrier ever though, so no chance thus far at getting that achievement.
