hey man I'm not the one who suggested we apply the child's definition of good sportsmanship; I'm happy to abandon it

my actual athletic career topped out at intercollegiate and city league soccer, and occasionally I still get a sweat on public basketball courts at the park

I rarely if ever see actual adults, having won decisively, walk over to the other side and shake hands in the manner of kids' leagues as though it means something. People will get together and talk if it was actually a good game, and if it wasn't they win/lose gracefully (i.e. silently.) My experience watching professional leagues is that it doesn't really happen there either, unless the game was a good one and/or the players have a prior relationship (in MLB the teams actually do a handshake line with their own side only, which I've always thought was weird but whatever.)

my point is I don't see this pithy 'gg' type of interaction in any competitive environment but video games, where it seems to primarily function as a low level/justifiable way of trolling the people who lost.

I mean on the courts I play on, if some fivesome showed up and just ran it for hours, people would start to suggest they break up and play with others and consider that the sportsmanlike thing to do, since the goal is for everybody to have a good time getting their workout. Which is all sportsmanship is really, a bit of common courtesy and concern for others' experience

In peewee sports (since I guess that's the analogy we're going with here) they also have such as mercy rules, and generally change or reduce teams if one side is crushing the other.

Because sane people who're involved in peewee sports realize that the goal is for everyone to have a good time playing the game, not provide an outlet for one group to prove to themselves precisely how superior they are to the other.

Based on posts by members in other threads kcom's attitude is evidently rather the opposite of that, so it's pretty disengenuous to cry sportsmanship when you get called out for trolling a team you crushed

...But we don't troll teams that we beat...it is spelled out in our own personal handbook quite clearly (everyone in KCom is required to read it BTW)and when someone in KCom makes a comment that I think can possibly be seen as trolling, I call that person out in comms and tell them to knock it off. So I am not sure how it's disingenuous to "cry sportsmanship" when one of the main reasons myself and 6 others formed KCom was because we were sick of the trolling that was going on amongst some of the top tier teams at the time and we wanted to form a unit that didn't do that.

We were going to play as hard as we could every match and win or lose, we will salute or "gg" the other team and go on our way. We are not here to intentionally ruin someone else's gaming experience but we are not here to handle them with kids gloves either. I would be insulted to the max if we dropped into a match with EMP and they told us they were going to bench 2 players to make it even. I want the best that they can give so that I can learn from how they play. That's how you get better. I would never dare to half step it or play at a level less than what we are capable of because that is the big insult here. That is showing extreme disrespect to the enemy. No, when you play us, you will get the best we can muster. Some days are better than others but we are going to try our best no matter what. If you are dropping into CW hoping that whatever team you come up against will take pity on you because you dropped solo and got paired up with 11 other solo guys, best hope you don't drop against us because we are going to do our best not matter what. At that point, your best bet is to watch very closely what we do and see if you can find a way to beat us the next time you come in.

Can confirm the sportsmanship of Kcom, always a pleasure win or lose.

We get the same thing here in COMA, people will troll us at the start but changes by the end of the match Posted Image

SJR learnt that one the hard way a while back.Posted Image

I always pucker up a little bit when I see more than 1 or 2 COMA guys on the other side. Good fun fighting you guys as you always make it difficult.

Never seen anything but class from Kcom in fighting with them or against them. A couple of us (07's) dropped in a PUG match last night and ended up alongside Pat and 1 other Kcom member...we lost a close, tough match on Polar. Pat (at the close of the match) encouraged the team that it was a good effort to make it close at the end, just an effort that came up short. He easily could just have said nothing or given some (deserved) criticism...

Always glad to drop with Kcom or against them....they always make for a good fight.

And this right here is why I tried out for KCOM in the first place. The team was organized to play to win. KCOM WANTS to win. KCOM wants to improve upon itself. KCOM doesn't settle for complacency. KCOM always strives to get better, sharper, faster, more lethal, more effective.

I'm glad that I got accepted into KCOM because now I can play with like-minded individuals, and boss Pat Kell's sentiments echo my own.

this is getting rediculous.

edit, moving a later post i made up to the op, it explains everything much better.

(kcom) isnt really the problem. its consistently seeing them, match after match, and no way out other to friend and check when their deployed, or wait 15 minutes to be sure. either way, im waiting really long, when its clear after 5 matches in a row that we aint gonna win that night against them. now if it was every other game, not much of a problem, they got good players, their chill, its no biggie. its the consistency. and i dont think its just them. people are going to see it every time a top teir unit is dropping. but back to back matches against any given one of those teams is just devestating for keeping a groups morale up and people playing.

Sounds like MS for 3 years straight, now that MS isn't a thing anymore soloist and tiny tiny groups will blame the next big comp team XD

Might as well get over it and either A make a team as big and get better or B wait them out of cycle as mentioned.
