1) That we're debating about excessive mouse-clicks is indication enough that something is wrong.
2) How many types of XP are we going to have to juggle? Isn't that an indication of something poorly thought out?
3) This game is already very complex. Does PGI really want to make this game even less accessible to new players and casuals? I look at that skill tree and I have no desire to delve into it.

New players will only have to deal with the 2 main XP variations, they will have no historic XP and the like.

Correct. Only older players have to deal with Historical Experience, Historical Skill Points, General Skill Points, on top of the normal Mech Experience and General Experience.
So new players won't see anything past buying nodes with MXP and GXP, while we have 5 to contend with switching over, 4 if you have 0 modules.

Skill maze is garbage. Charging players for repsecing is a joke. PGI have no idea what they're doing, it's gonna own when the player base drops out again and no new players feel like wading through this quagmire of dumb ****

The only thing I'm certain of is that they have to push the new skill tree out, before the new tech hits. It's that or create even more pilot skills to unlock and modules to buy and swap. They have to make the break now, instead of doubling down on the existing system.
No matter how much I'm not liking the skill tree, or their reasoning, or their explanations, I believe in what I said above.
I've only been playing a year and a half. I wish they had a better track record of inspiring confidence with me personally. On the plus side, they've not broke my heart or other sensitive bits. Back to the event, sure felt like a distraction with the timing. But it was a ni$e distraction, since I was on the clan side of things. And cats. Cats are nice.
That and if you can tell the powers that be to stop testing and/or trying more than one change at a time, that'd be peachy.

2 clicks per skill. There are 13 skills, so 26 clicks.
4 clicks to get into the tree itself. I usually do several thousand XP per visit, so 5 to 8 visits in total. Probably on average, 26 clicks.
So in total, 52+ clicks under the old system. At most maybe 60 or so clicks.
The new system is 91+ clicks just to unlock the skill themselves, not including navigation.
But more importantly is just the scale of the danged thing. You going from something that looks like this:
To something that looks like this:
For reference, here are some other skill trees.
Hearts of Iron:
World of Tanks:
War Thunder:
Armoured Warfare:
World of Warships:
Most traditional MMOs and MOBAs these days seem to resemble this, used by LoL:
Now tell me... why again do we need this?
I logged in just to like this post, its so correct on so many levels.

Psst!
Hey you!
Yes, you!
I have great news. We're going to have Stars vs. Lances, starting with Clan Binary vs. IS Company fights.
<steps back into the shadows>
Was there an announcement or hint? Or is it just a gut feeling?
