Think of surplus GXP or the gobs of extra SP as a decoration. Think of them like jewelry. They are big shinny numbers to decorate your UI with but you won't actually use them for much of anything unless you get really desperate.
Just wondering if there was in difference in the quantities said shiny gobs...

I don't think GXP has changed really all that much.
The two new currencies of HSP and GSP are the currency for actually applying nodes to your current mechs and those that can be applied to current or future mechs. ( I don't recall ATM which is which). They are based on your current mastery level of a given variant and the modules purchased in the past.
As far as GXP, on an on going basis I don't know what anyone will use it for unless for some reason they are totally out of SP and actually wan't to convert GXP.
What am I forgetting? I am certain that I am forgetting something.
Such an elegant streamlined design.

Maybe the wife and I will buy and RV and spend our years traveling the country.
I've always wanted to learn how to paint, I might do that.
I just don't see myself playing all that much once it drops( if it's not drastically altered from PTS2)

Yeah I know how they work or at least how they did in the last PTS... just wondering whether there is any advantage/disadvantage to using gxp to unlock pilot skills vs mech skills... will I get the same/more/less HSP/whatever if I use my surplus gxp prior to ST... wish the PTS with whatever tweaks PGI are making was live

That all depends on your perspective. GSP is a combination of the C-Bills you spent for the modules orignally plus the added benefit of enough free XP to make the full purchase of a Skill point. For me, that means I can Master my Mechs plus about 10 future Mechs for free. It is a great deal for some of us.
You know i think people are also under-estimating how many points they are going to need.. There are 240 nodes on each mech, NOT 91. I think i'll be burning lots of nodes for the just and see as i tweak mechs. Maybe not all of them, but certain many.
I have enough to master 60 mechs, I have about 25 not mastered,, I was going to sell a lot of modules, but after thinking about it, I think i should save more points, Like perhaps 125 per mech.
In short i will most likely just go sell off some of my single Weapon modules, Like LRM recharges.. (or others i only bought one of, as i know they are all way before the date) Maybe get like 25-30m extra.. Especially with this event boosting my account with a ton of C-bills.
I was working on leveling all my mechs, but this event made me slow down on that part, and instead i made some C-bills/MC.. Guess i'll just use more GSP than i planned.
all and all, i can't wait for next week, Every mech i own can be mastered and kitted out. YIPPY!

Historic XP, and the new Mech XP, are all basically the same.. You convert it into Skill points, that you use to unlock nodes on that specfic mech.
GXP is XP that can be used to convert Skill points on any mech.
GSP, are Skill points already converted, and then you can transfer them to any mech.
Over all it's pretty simple

Yes, it's not what I mean. I did jump on the pts/pts2 etc
As this is the preparation thread... I was wondering what to do with my existing gxp this side of ST (i would prefer HSP over HXP). I understand HXP = GXP.
I could use existing Gxp to upskill mechs (now)... which will give me HSP (once ST drops) or I can use it to unlock pilot skills which will give me HSP (once ST drops)... I'm wondering what will give me the best bang using up my GXP this side of ST release. Or maybe it doesn't matter which I choose?

Right now, i'm not doing anything. All my mechs are mastered except 1, so nothing to do there. I've all ready calculated 50% of my module refund value. I don't need no stinking GSP.
I've all ready closed my wallet to PGI thanks to what they did to "faction" warfare. The module refund policy will make my wallet closure to PGI permanent. Not just MWO, but MW5 as well.

(I wonder why.... might be something to do with pgi communication skills, so ill try to do _ _ _ _ '_ job for h_ _, maybe they will stop threatening to temp ban me if im more helpful and less trolololololol..... but they make it so easy... and i try to be good i do, they should go look at a more popular games forums for whats actually usually tolerated... anyway)
^wonders if above paragraph gets deleted without acknowledgement/consideration/investigation of below issue paragraph.
Warning ! before you sell any modules read the following !
I, and others have asked this question already but it has so far gone unaddressed/achknowledged. There is quite possibly a HUGE problem with their refunds system, Do modules stack in the code of the game or do they have individual Identification codes ? (I expect they stack) What we assume PGI is doing is taking a snapshot of How many modules you had before DEC 3rd and how many you have since and calculating returns based on that total number of each module before and after DEC 3rd GSP / CBILLS differentiation date.
In case your not following that, here is an example.
I bought 10 Seismic Sensor Modules at 6 mil each before DEC 3rd (60 million cbills purchase value worth, to be turned into GSP). I bought 20 after DEC 3rd (120 million cbills purchase value worth) I decide, that I dont want any GSP (or less than I am going to get) and I want a greater amount of Cbills returned (to prepare for buying all the new tech coming out in JULY..... (probably)) .
So, I decide to sell the 10 seismic sensors I bought for my older mechs and know I havent moved around for the half CBILLS value of 30 million cbills because I decide thats better than GSP FOR MY SPECIFIC CASE. However, come patch day I log in to find I recieved GSP ??? when i sold all my GSP modules, and only 60million cbills........, so I have been shortchanged by 30 million CBILLS...
Why did that happen ? because pgi's system on patch day doesnt seperate which 10 modules you had before DEC 3rd and simply decreases the total number of modules, calculates you had 10 modules before DEC 3rd and turns 10 of the modules in your inventory into GSP and leaves you with only 10 modules purchased after the date its been told to split your returns based on.
Would love to get that likely issue addressed/acknowledged thanks PGI. And God I hope I and the others who were discussing this in another thread are wrong.
SO YOU CANT SAFELY SELL ANY MODULES UNLESS YOU ARE SURE (BASED ON A FEBRUARY 18TH REFUND SUMMARY CHART ON PTS) THAT YOU ONLY PURCHASED THAT TYPE OF MODULE BEFORE DEC 3RD......
PGI... A dec 3rd pts to help people work out what modules they can sell this weekend would go a long way to alleviating the hellstorm that is going to occur Wednesday if you send this live without people being able to safely refund modules purchased pre dec 3rd.

I sold all my modules that i bought before new year, to make sure i get my cbills back.
Now I buy whatever module I want, because in few weeks i'll get all the cbills back. Right? RIGHT? I kind of get nervous reading this thread. Once again, please. What refund do we get for unlocking modules? What refund do we get for modules, bought with cbills before new year? And what refund do we get for modules, bought with cbills after new year?
Unlocking modules is GXP refunded. Modules bought with Cbills before Dec 3rd become GSP (which is = to initial purchase cost of module in cbills + bonus xp). Modules bought after Dec 3rd get refunded as full value of module purchase cbills.

If you use GXP now to max out a mechs level 3 21,500 extra module slot xp skill, you wont have to pay CBILLS to max out THAT mech variant IN COMBINATION with GXP after the patch. You will get 91 points of HSP from having that mech fully mastered and that will save you CBILLS. The ONLY disadvantage of this is you wont have that GXP available (to use in combination with cbills) for new mechs you get (however many people are going to have so much GSP they wont need the GXP)
NOTE, IF YOU HAVE MORE THAN 1 VARIANT OF A MECH YOU ONLY NEED TO MAX 1 through the level 3 skill and both will get 91 GSP to spend.
People are still going to have HEAPS of HXP they will never be able to use.
If anyone needs futher clarifying of what refund type is what and what order is best to use them in I will try to explain when i get back in a few hours.

Can't wait for it to hit though.. will be fun to customize the shait out of my mechs
To be honest, after PGI took away three of my mastered Atlases during closed beta, I couldn't care less about if I'll get the appropriate amount of cbills or XP from the conversions.. If I got nothing at all, it would make the game fresh and new again for me, and I would not mind re-mastering all of my mechs..
Sure, I don't have hundreds like some.. but still..
And I just LOVE the fact I'll get to sell-off a bunch of unused air strikes in the conversion...

So if I master a mech with mech XP - I get mech SP refund. And if I master a mech (at least the most expencive part of it) with GXP - I will get GSP refund?
I have like 50k GXP now, what do I get for unspent GXP? Or should I spend all this somehow? UUUGH I'm having so much fun, thanks, PGI.

I have to agree. I really have no qualms about having to xp up mechs again. From my breif time with the new skill tree on the test server - it seems its going to take some time to work out new builds anyway. Im thinking more about selling stuff for cbills.

Sorry I was late for a meeting before and may have made an error, I'll check in a minute/in the morning its getting late. So mech experience in current skills is basic THEN Elite, then Mastered being last/highest level of completion (that always sits badly in my head, I think you can "Master" something without being Elite at it.......) To answer your question...
If you master a mech currently with Mech "XP" (or with gxp) you will get "HSP" x 91 points (HSP = HISTORIC MECH SPECIFIC SKILL POINTS that can only be used on that variant of that chassis). but are complete skill points (containing both the cbill and xp costs of a skill point).
GSP is only rewarded for Modules you purchased before dec 3rd 2016. It is a currency of SKILL POINTS that can be used on ANY MECH you own.
Heres how I see what we should be doing / do when it drops.
Level every mech you can now to Elited. (if you only master a mech you will have to spend a LOT of cbills + a xp currency to get it to 91 SP full build in the new Skill Tree.
If you dont have the time to do that, I would use GXP to get them to max before Skill Tree drops.
If you have mechs where you cant do that (dont have 3 versions) I am trying to get 60,000 xp waiting on basic'd only mechs in case I need to spend cbills to level them.
When ST goes live the best order to use currencies to level mechs is...
HSP
then GSP OR HXP + cbills (depending how rich in each currency you are)
then finally GXP + Cbills.
Hope that helps. 07
